You convinced me to get a Wii U almost a year ago and now I’m almost done with a complete North American set, because of you I purchased that external hard drive and was planning on getting those digital games next. Another thing that aligns with the closure.. the amount of remakes/re-releases on the Switch. They're cannibalizing themselves and they want their fanbase on the Switch. Makes business sense.. just us old nostalgic gamers/collectors are getting weepy about it. :/

I said it in the last video about this you guys uploaded. when Nintendo removes the option to add money using card it's end game in a couple of months. they done it on wii. they are doing it now. U don't clickbait your videos you just made me realise the pattern they also done it on dsi
The part were you explain about losing games or content only digital is already happen with arcades, it's sad to know that there's games lost forever because anyone has that board or copy, there's people trying to locate all games they can find and everyday a new game see the light, now this will happen with digital games and content because companies don't care of keeping some kind of archive or that seems
The credit card thing happened in Europe and the UK before it happened in Japan. In the EU, it was due to new laws tightening restrictions on web security payments, which the older Wii U and 3DS - and PS3 - couldn't get updated for (nothing fixable via firmware, the issue IIRC was on a hardware level). At least we got more notice than Sony tried to give, though I don't think Nintendo's likely to U-turn. As when the Wii eShop closed, I'm going through the stores to find what's left on the store that I'll be interested in and splurge a bit (esp. on the 3DS, given that it holds not only 3DS titles, but DSiWare as well). I'm especially going to be looking at exclusives on the systems. Holding out a little hope that some of the third-party publishers see fit to give a "last-minute" sale or two along the way (I doubt Nintendo will offer their own products for sale during this period).

I’m still having issues logging my Nintendo Account into my 3DS. Which is weird because I can log into the website just fine. Both the main site and My Nintendo, so I don’t get why my system is giving me so many issues.

Sad days. Fast Racing Neo did get a PAL physical release so there is that. We were also lucky with Project Zero Maiden of black water in physical. No Axiom Verge physical in PAL though 😞
I’ve been talking about this for a while once the shops close physical games are going to go up by a lot and I mean into the thousands and for 3DS it’s gonna be a pain to play games now most games require an update with a 3DS that requires you to go to the shop. There’s no shop so technically I don’t how games are going to work
Next March 3DS is going to be a paperweight. Oh, you’re gonna tell me oh, you can still play your physical games. I know once the store closes completely. The 3DS becomes a paperweight. It’s up for DS games. You can just play on the computer and the sad part is you can play the 3DS games on the computer too so yeah and I think you can’t play the switch games on the computer really not supposed to but you can .

I have the same appreciation for the console as you do!! One of the best things about the Wii U and why I think it's so great, is the fact that it has both HDMI and AV ports. I have a CRT, so the ability to play downloaded retro games the way they were meant to be played, is priceless. And of course playing modern games on my HDTV through HDMI is a given. The console provides a convenient and simultaneous way to get the best of both gaming worlds. Keep up the great videos!!
It’s just been crazy with how fast it got announced and everything. I loved all the Wii U videos you guys have done for years it’s great to watch for hidden gems. Most of the games on the Wii U and Wii are going up in value I just bought radiant dawn on my Wii last week for 100 bucks it’s insane with how much in value the games are and the system.
It's really bad when these things happen. There will obviously be ways and means to get the games when the store closes but I feel for the small Devs such as the maker of Affordable Space Adventure....they created a wonderful, unique game for the WiiU and when the store closes so does the ability to directly support the Dev. You absolutely got this right months ago 👍👍
The bitter irony for Nintendo is, they’re probably gonna see a huge jump in digital game sales over the next year! 🤑 I know I’m personally planning on spending at least $100 in the next 13 months, picking up classic games (and I rarely buy digital games)
I have been linked for purchasing without a CC from day one. I only have a few Wii U digital games left to buy so the timing is not a problem for me. I feel better actually purchasing games and I find most people complaining about the eShop shutdown have not purchased games yet and now feel forced to buy??? It's been close to a decade... were they ever going to anyway? But, if my primary system ever fails I will mod my second Wii U to get back the games I paid for if the download servers are gone.
So glad I picked up all the Wii U games I wanted back in 2017 when the switch launched. That’s the cheapest the games ever where on eBay,GameStop and any other stores that were just trying to get rid of their stock. Love the Wii U you guys are so right tho. I just purchased a 3DS for the first time last year. I have already purchased several items on the e-shop, but I’m still just beginning to discover the library. I normally do not about hacking or modeling consoles, but sadly this announcement last night made me decide I would have my 3DS modded in anticipation of the shop closing long before I can discover a lot about what it has to offer.
Axiom verge is on sale, so it’s the perfect time to finally pick it up. It has been on my radar for the switch but you 2 sold me on the Wii U version in your last video. Might be the last time it’s on sale. Also saw the steamworld games were discounted. Shakedown Hawaii might be something to pick up for CRT fans. I was an idiot and skipped the limited physical release in 2020, but I didn’t have my CRT then.
Wes mentioning the 2nd screen gave me an idea. That'd be sweet is the Switch app could act as a 2nd screen for maps/inventory/HUD and you could have some grip for your phone that the JoyCons connect to like a Razer Kishi
Guys, I wanted to put some **good** news about the Wii U on your radar and see if you might be willing to give it some exposure from your show. There is actually one more Wii U game coming to the eShop later this month or very early March that's a full-blown survival horror called "Silver Falls: White Inside Its Umbra", and it honestly looks amazing for an indie title released this late in the console's lifespan. It's exclusive to the Wii U because it makes heavy use of the Wii U tablet-TV interface, it's 5(!) players, it even has compatibility with the balance board... Normally I'd have heavy skepticism about all of these claims, but the same guy already released a late-life 3DS title in the same "Silver Falls" series that looks almost as good as a Resident Evil game, so he apparently knows what he's about. The developer is making a tires-on-fire landing at the very end of the console's life cycle but he's putting a TON of love into the project, and I would love for it to be a financial success for him. I'm in no way affiliated with the game, and it would be really cool if you could shine some light on it for him so people will support it.
I just gifted one of my many WiiU's to my daughter. Her husband and her are now AVID WiiU fan's! I have a feeling they'll be spending a bunch before they can't anymore on the e shop!
I already got all the things I *really* wanted (Ninja Gaiden trilogy, any and every Zelda, bunch of Advance games). I knew the moment the Wii e-Shop shut down that eventually the Wii U shop would shut down. I was preparing for it even in the Wii U's prime. To hell with waiting. The bright side is, Nintendo really has been (mostly) good making the old games playable even if the newest iteration is a pay per year service.
I love my wiiu I'll just need to find what good games to pirate but this is still sad cuz people who don't want them other console they can't get any more games after March of next year

Just a heads up fellas, Xenoblade Chronicles X remains a Wii U exclusive and is likely to stay that way. With the announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, supplies on ebay are drying up quick and it's looking like this could be another Earthbound-like story of a game that people remember being cheap and abundant for awhile becomes "rare" and valuable as copies for sale find themselves locked into collections. ...So couple that with Wii U full set (and just wii u in general) collecting demand which is sure to get a boost from the E-shop closing (remember PS3 last year) --- All this considered, my suggestion is secure yourself a Xenoblade Chronicles X sooner than later. Special Editions are really nice but are about 3X the price. Worth it in my opinion. *Note this IS financial / investment advice. I guarantee price goes up.
Built an entire collection with multiple copies of every Wii U game I found At pawn shops for $2-10 roughly. I knew this was coming and I wanted to make some money off of it.
I've been collecting Wii U since 2016 love the console! this just gives me a reason to collect more physical games to resell or flip in the near future haha cheers 😀
That is a smart point cause these games will go up in price in 2 years. But the thing is, I'm a gamer and collector and don't want driving up prices to an insane level. Unless you have a store I'd agree, else you become part of the problem. With all respect.
Nothing on that yet. The only thing that was stated was that we will still be able to access DLC and previously downloaded games after the closure. My guess would be a year or so after the closure. Cheers!

I missed the Wii shop closing so I was pretty bummed out. I am not going to miss these 2 eshops. I am making a list of games I want from the eshop and physically and people are going to be scrambling last minute and gonna have to pay eBay prices. Have you guys tried Captain U on the Wii u? It was released a couple of months ago. Simple platformer that focuses on using the Wii u gamepad in unique ways. The graphics are underwhelming but the rest of the game is solid. And, talking about games that will only excel in the Wii u this could make that list. Give it a go if you haven't.

We have a Wii U. My kids love playing it all the time. We got the 32 gig Wii U. We put a big memory card in it. I tell you what. My kids have downloaded so many games on there Wii U.

It's common knowledge that old servers go down, it was not hard to predict especially for a flop ( in terms of sale console) .. same thing will eventually happen to the vita as well , PS3 and 360.. it was not hard to 'call'
I saw this coming as well and I also did some calculations of how much games I want and there’s price’s. It’s crazy expensive (like around $500-$700) in total imma just the get the games I really want instead of spending a crazy amount of money on it :/
About a month ago, I bought a Wii U (Super Mario Maker Edition Bundle). The box was in like new condition. I really enjoy it !! Since then I've stumbled upon your videos about the Wii U. As always a very informative video !!! Too bad the e-shop is closing. Eh I have had my 3ds hacked for years with homebrew apps installed and i haven't got banned nor have they cared bans only happen with the switch. The worst they can legally do is ban your system bricking your system or digging into the personal information on your 3ds like photos isn't legal. Any thing thats not a vaild nintendo app simply won't show up on the website.
I grew up owning the 3ds family of consoles with the 3DS XL Mario & Luigi Dream Team Silver Special Edition Console and then got a 2DS after that broke then after that got a 2ds XL during quarantine also I got the Wii U at the end of 2019. This really sucks there will be so much games that will be lost and I'm not just talking bloatware games we got so many 1st party games that will be gone. Honesty I don't want to have to deal with Switch Online anymore do you think Nintendo is gonna pull back like Sony did because of the pushback?

You guys were right on the money predicting the eShop closure ahead of everyone else. Robert, I love the MTV shirt you were rockin' today. I remember when I got the Wii U and was super impressed about how I could transfer my Wii data over to that new console and recall the cool animation that showed on the Wii U during that data transfer. It was so cutting edge at the time. Sort of like how AOL and Netscape Navigator seemed like the cats meow during their prime. In any case I have a lot of nostalgia for the Wii U and glad you both celebrate that console. Quick question, can you still play games you own digitally or physically after the game servers shut down or is it just online play that is impacted when game servers are shut down?

This is why we need to transition away from digital ownership and move back to hardware. You can buy these things and then never have access again.

I have been linked for purchasing without a CC from day one. I only have a few Wii U digital games left to buy so the timing is not a problem for me. I feel better actually purchasing games and I find most people complaining about the eShop shutdown have not purchased games yet and now feel forced to buy??? It's been close to a decade... were they ever going to anyway?
But, if my primary system ever fails I will mod my second Wii U to get back the games I paid for if the download servers are gone.
So glad I picked up all the Wii U games I wanted back in 2017 when the switch launched. That’s the cheapest the games ever where on eBay,GameStop and any other stores that were just trying to get rid of their stock. Love the Wii U you guys are so right tho. All of a sudden everyone loves the Wii U and are sad about the Eshop closing 😂

I just purchased a 3DS for the first time last year. I have already purchased several items on the e-shop, but I’m still just beginning to discover the library. I normally do not about hacking or modeling consoles, but sadly this announcement last night made me decide I would have my 3DS modded in anticipation of the shop closing long before I can discover a lot about what it has to offer.
Axiom verge is on sale, so it’s the perfect time to finally pick it up. It has been on my radar for the switch but you 2 sold me on the Wii U version in your last video. Might be the last time it’s on sale. Also saw the steamworld games were discounted.
Shakedown Hawaii might be something to pick up for CRT fans. I was an idiot and skipped the limited physical release in 2020, but I didn’t have my CRT then.

Wes mentioning the 2nd screen gave me an idea. That'd be sweet is the Switch app could act as a 2nd screen for maps/inventory/HUD and you could have some grip for your phone that the JoyCons connect to like a Razer Kishi
Most games don't need it tho, and the one game that do, Pac-Man VS. uses a second Switch as a Gamepad.

Guys, I wanted to put some **good** news about the Wii U on your radar and see if you might be willing to give it some exposure from your show. There is actually one more Wii U game coming to the eShop later this month or very early March that's a full-blown survival horror called "Silver Falls: White Inside Its Umbra", and it honestly looks amazing for an indie title released this late in the console's lifespan. It's exclusive to the Wii U because it makes heavy use of the Wii U tablet-TV interface, it's 5(!) players, it even has compatibility with the balance board... Normally I'd have heavy skepticism about all of these claims, but the same guy already released a late-life 3DS title in the same "Silver Falls" series that looks almost as good as a Resident Evil game, so he apparently knows what he's about.
The developer is making a tires-on-fire landing at the very end of the console's life cycle but he's putting a TON of love into the project, and I would love for it to be a financial success for him. I'm in no way affiliated with the game, and it would be really cool if you could shine some light on it for him so people will support it.
I just gifted one of my many WiiU's to my daughter. Her husband and her are now AVID WiiU fan's! I have a feeling they'll be spending a bunch before they can't anymore on the e shop!

I bought a Wii U just about a year ago I luckily found one CIB at a local retro shop
I already got all the things I *really* wanted (Ninja Gaiden trilogy, any and every Zelda, bunch of Advance games). I knew the moment the Wii e-Shop shut down that eventually the Wii U shop would shut down. I was preparing for it even in the Wii U's prime. To hell with waiting.
The bright side is, Nintendo really has been (mostly) good making the old games playable even if the newest iteration is a pay per year service.
I love my wiiu I'll just need to find what good games to pirate but this is still sad cuz people who don't want them other console they can't get any more games after March of next year

I actually modded my wii u this month figuring that this was going to happen soon, and well it happened. For many it will be the only option to get at the exclusive digital games as you guys mentioned.

Just a heads up fellas, Xenoblade Chronicles X remains a Wii U exclusive and is likely to stay that way. With the announcement of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, supplies on ebay are drying up quick and it's looking like this could be another Earthbound-like story of a game that people remember being cheap and abundant for awhile becomes "rare" and valuable as copies for sale find themselves locked into collections.
...So couple that with Wii U full set (and just wii u in general) collecting demand which is sure to get a boost from the E-shop closing (remember PS3 last year) --- All this considered, my suggestion is secure yourself a Xenoblade Chronicles X sooner than later. Special Editions are really nice but are about 3X the price. Worth it in my opinion.

That is a smart point cause these games will go up in price in 2 years. But the thing is, I'm a gamer and collector and don't want driving up prices to an insane level. Unless you have a store I'd agree, else you become part of the problem. With all respect.

Nothing on that yet. The only thing that was stated was that we will still be able to access DLC and previously downloaded games after the closure. My guess would be a year or so after the closure. Cheers!
I’m pretty sure The Swapper can be purchased for other consoles....but I played it on the Wii U and it was a really fun time. Pick it up. :-D

I missed the Wii shop closing so I was pretty bummed out. I am not going to miss these 2 eshops. I am making a list of games I want from the eshop and physically and people are going to be scrambling last minute and gonna have to pay eBay prices. Have you guys tried Captain U on the Wii u? It was released a couple of months ago. Simple platformer that focuses on using the Wii u gamepad in unique ways. The graphics are underwhelming but the rest of the game is solid. And, talking about games that will only excel in the Wii u this could make that list. Give it a go if you haven't.

We have a Wii U. My kids love playing it all the time. We got the 32 gig Wii U. We put a big memory card in it. I tell you what. My kids have downloaded so many games on there Wii U.

It's common knowledge that old servers go down, it was not hard to predict especially for a flop ( in terms of sale console) .. same thing will eventually happen to the vita as well , PS3 and 360.. it was not hard to 'call'

I saw this coming as well and I also did some calculations of how much games I want and there’s price’s. It’s crazy expensive (like around $500-$700) in total imma just the get the games I really want instead of spending a crazy amount of money on it :/

About a month ago, I bought a Wii U (Super Mario Maker Edition Bundle). The box was in like new condition. I really enjoy it !! Since then I've stumbled upon your videos about the Wii U. As always a very informative video !!! Too bad the e-shop is closing. I guess I have no excuse now to not buy a few things from the e-shop, like DLC's from Mario Kart 8 and Zelda : Breath of The Wild, and probably buy the Project Zero : Maiden of Blackwater game.

Yeah, I wont name names, but I've seen a few pop up and I'd watch for about a minute and end up saying "OH, SHUT UP, HYPOCRITE!" and then click on something else, so I feel you guys on that one. The same people who cashed in when it was a "failure" (perhaps commercially but in terms of it's legacy and loyal fanbase NEVER) are trying to cash in now that public sentiment is "Oh, please, no, Nintendo! Don't do that!' If people like us weren't saying that this sucks they wouldn't say a word because there wouldn't be anything in it for them.
If u gonna download any eshop games get the Wii titles and download the one ds game so u can emulate the titles u want also true everyone doesn’t care till it’s gone I’m glad I got the games that I wanted before it was too late

The only way to save is what everyone did for the PS3 PS Vita store you need millions of players complain to Nintendo no one saved the Wii from closing is anyone going to save the Wii U from closing

@@cosmicsvids well I’m not a person that hacks consoles that Nintendo Sony Microsoft can see you doing it if you compare the NES Classic vs Wii U there was no online service in those I only hacked my mini consoles if you hack PS3 games and unlock trophies Sony will ask where did you get the license to play that game they know your playing digital or physical Will banned your account back in the days when people were copying games were using CDs no digital you can play burned games it was safe no one would know but now we’ll see just how much gamers love Nintendo Wii U over that much the PS3 PS Vita were saved but not the PSP cause you can buy those games through the PS Vita and PS3 store also cause no trophies everyone has 1 year including the scalpers either to sell their consoles the regular price or open the console and redeem their digital Zelda game Mario games what ever came with the Wii U bundle when there is no way to redeem the games no one’s going care about those bundles there are PS4 bundles that’s new never used that have games expired like knack from Japan very sad to see scalpers don’t care about their own games they lost

Eh I have had my 3ds hacked for years with homebrew apps installed and i haven't got banned nor have they cared bans only happen with the switch. The worst they can legally do is ban your system bricking your system or digging into the personal information on your 3ds like photos isn't legal. Any thing thats not a vaild nintendo app simply won't show up on the website.
I grew up owning the 3ds family of consoles with the 3DS XL Mario & Luigi Dream Team Silver Special Edition Console and then got a 2DS after that broke then after that got a 2ds XL during quarantine also I got the Wii U at the end of 2019. This really sucks there will be so much games that will be lost and I'm not just talking bloatware games we got so many 1st party games that will be gone. Honesty I don't want to have to deal with Switch Online anymore do you think Nintendo is gonna pull back like Sony did because of the pushback?

You guys were right on the money predicting the eShop closure ahead of everyone else. Robert, I love the MTV shirt you were rockin' today. I remember when I got the Wii U and was super impressed about how I could transfer my Wii data over to that new console and recall the cool animation that showed on the Wii U during that data transfer. It was so cutting edge at the time. Sort of like how AOL and Netscape Navigator seemed like the cats meow during their prime. In any case I have a lot of nostalgia for the Wii U and glad you both celebrate that console. Quick question, can you still play games you own digitally or physically after the game servers shut down or is it just online play that is impacted when game servers are shut down?

Yes the Wii U was treated like a pariah. I use to predict all the haters, talking about it as a hidden gem one day. That day has arrived. So glad I bought my physical games when it was affordable.
