  • Awesome day riding Hwy 1D from Phonsavan to Na Hin , Laos. What I expected was a paved yet rough road but I got a 50K section of pretty rough gravel road on some very steep mountains. Add low fuel and no availability at a few gas stations but I managed to reach my Destination.
    The Views are stunning.
Roads in Laos well expect the Unexpected !!!
Best suited motorcycle , Honda CRF250L

Thanks for sharing! Now I see why you did not drive the 750 up there when the main road has become an off road experience!

Looks like it would be a fun road on the V-Strom.

Personally it was much easier on the CRF 250 , the suspension is better and it has bigger wheels, and definitely much more fuel economy. The conditions will change from season to season and definitely would avoid in the rainy season. Be careful and Ride Safe.
      Thanks for watching

@@mikefreeriderAsia Rainy season is bad. We went from Pak Lay, took the ferry across the Mekong and turned north at the junction with the road from Xanamkhan that connected 1120km later at the 13 at Xang. Dirt and mud with many small river and creek crossing. This was just after the rainy season ended and I had on street tires (WTF). Took 8hrs to go 60km. Overnighted in the home of a Laotian family. The worst section was to come in the morning. Fun Times

Did you summarize by saying, "it wasn't a lot of drama"? 😵‍💫 Your definition of drama is much different from mine! 😁 I would have required a sedative, or maybe a stiff drink following that ride. Just shows the confidence you have in your riding skills and not riding with an auxiliary gas can! My idea of a vehicle for that road would be a Hummer! But you inspire motorcyclists of a similar generation. (Or any generation for that matter) Kudos to you for your pioneering, and exploration efforts. It gives us inspiration to follow in those tracks knowing it CAN be done. Albeit in the safety of your experienced guidance. 👍Very cool.

Again Thanks for watching , the beauty of the CRF250L is the ability to almost go anywhere , almost!! I was really surprised about the road as all my info said different but I saw some scooters but no cars on the first 20K and I was heading in the right direction. I am a pretty conservative rider so I ride as safely as possible but there is always a risk but locals are always friendly. My goal is to inspire people to go out and ride and feel that freedom. If I can do it you can do it !!!! Again thanks for your comments.

The light weight CRF with nobbles sounds perfect.
