Film explanation (Watch before reading):
The colour represents the people and objects that have been touched by the great force Ignotum. These people unlock a deeper understanding about what it is and does. The outside people looking in cannot see the colour as their whole world is black and white, however they can feel something off, and are repelled by the concept. After being touched by Ignotum, the detective quickly drops the paranoia and embraces the new world.
