I love him. I love the way he looked up at the less expensive seats, making sure they knew he appreciated them as well. Bravo.

Yes, he still does it after all his performances. However, there were no "cheap seats" for these special events." In San Francisco, the cheapest seat for his solo event was $450 in 1991. The tickets were gone in less than 24 hours. I imagine the situation was similar in London, Milan, or Vienna.
I just love him. Did you see him look up at and acknowledge the audience members in the cheaper seats? What a gentleman. And, by the way, what a voice.
Placido is, since my point of view, the best tenor spinto existing. I love the interpretention of any aria, and /or opera. I love him 💕 Mi querido Placido, Eres el mejor!!!!

LOVE everyone & this whole magnificent gala! But I discovered Leontina Vaduva at this concert: one of the most charming, adorable & gorgeous sopranos in the world. What a perfectly produced voice! Her personal warmth is integral to who she is & how she performs as an artist. In a word, sublime.
Lawrence Olivier once said of Placido Domingo that Placido acts as well as he (Lawrence) and sings the part, too!

The Royal Opera House Covent Garden knows how to do a royalty-attended gala, especially for and with one of their favorite sons, the Great Domingo, KBE. What a lovely evening that had to be for everyone. Everyone sang beautifully. The adults know that when Domingo works, hundreds of people work, too. When he sells tickets, which he still does, hundreds of people get paid.

A todos los que os meteís con Plácido: Plaza de toros de Valencia con la Antología de la Zarzuela de Tamayo. El público pide a Plácido que cante el Himno Regional que no figuraba en el programa. En el centro de la plaza, con la partitura en la mano (porque no se lo sabe), acompañado por la Banda Municipal de Valencia y sin micrófonos lo cantó. ¿Se sabe de alguno que haya hecho algo así?. Esto es lo que ha hecho a Plácido estar donde está. A pesar de los defectos, es el que más emociona. Los conciertos de Pavarotti, con su voz de oro, se limitaban a unas cancioncillas, bonitas, bien cantadas pero poco exigentes y, luego al final, Nessun dorma y O sole mio. Idem Kraus.

Formidable gala (comme je les aime !)... magnifique Alagna dans sa jeunesse et l'air d'Halévy topissime, Dwayne Croft magnifique dans Faust... Susan Graham impériale dans Strauss, Leontina Vaduva piquante et séduisante en diable dans Donizetti et Domingo , fidèle à lui-même ... avec de très bons moments et des passages bof ! bref une superbe soirée à revoir encore et encore !!!!

He's a beloved living legend for many excellent reasons, spanning over 50 years of accomplishment, beautiful inside and out, and someone who has brought joy and beauty to millions of people, and it is most appreciated by those of us who find relief from our woes in the majestic beauty of his voice and artistry. He belongs to the many millions, if not billions, of loyal fans of his around the world and no one and nothing can take him away from us, nor change how we esteem him. He is immortal.

And of course Roberto Alagna was superb. His "Rachel quand du seigniur" was profoundly tragic. I should know how to spell "seigniur" but what a hatchet job I did on that word. Doesn't take anything away from Maestro Alagna's profound performance.

I LOVE Placido and wonder why every time I look him up that Pavorotti is right there? Maria Callas is always there, too, but she never sang in an opera. Does anyone know how to sort the suggestions on the right to exclude people?
Maria Callaa never sang in an opera? I thought she sang Tosca. And her Vissi d'Arte was the best. Didn't she sing Tosca with Tito Gobi as Scarpia? And Giuseppec di Stefano as Mario?

It's hard to say. Luciano's upper register was more inspiring but Placido's ability to be the role he was singing places him on another level.

Maybe one should not repeat unfounded stories, but I never liked Correlli and when I heard that he was outdone when the soprano in the "O soave fanculla" took the high C at the end, which was how the duet was written, he went to the soprano's dressing room and played a mean trick on her. Maybe this story is not true, but I bet it was. Can anyone corroborate this story?
Quien sepa un poco de ópera sabrá lo q estoy diciendo. Por desgracia a un número de usuarios de youtube q no tiene ni idea de repertorio operístico y no profundiza. Cualquiera q sepa un poco sabe q elixir y Fausto son óperas en las q Plácido no es referencia. En las 100 mejores óperas mejores, editado por la revista scherzo, dicen en el elixir q la versión de Plácido no la califican por no tener la mímica calidad interpretativa. En Fausto dicen q cuando la grabó con Freni fue incomprensible y q únicamente se entiende esta grabación por temas comerciales, ya q Plácido no tenía mimbres para este papel, q requiere una dicción francesa y una matización q Plácido nunca tuvo. Yo doy argumentos , no insulto.

Lo que ocurre con Plácido, es que lo canta todo, da igual si va o no va con su voz y es normal que en unas cosas destaque más que en otras; su repertorio abarcaba unos 150 roles antes de cantar como barítono; ahora igual ha llegado a los 200. Ha cantado repertorio italiano, ruso, francés y wagneriano. Alfredo Kraus tenía un repertorio de unas quince operas, que cantaba como nadie y Pavarotti unas 30. Hay un montón de tenores que me gustan más, pero Plácido es único. Y el mejor de la historia, ha sido Fleta.
Fausto no le va nada. Y el elixir menos todavía a Plácido. Don Giovanni ídem. Cuando se escuchan barítonos de verdad en esta recital se da uno cuenta lo osado q domingo. Se aprovecha del descomocimiento q hay desde hace unos años de la ópera . Hoy lo q manda es la mercadotecnia.
QUEDO ANODADADO ANTE TANTA SAPIENCIA, ¿ HAY O HUBO ALGUIEN EN EL MUNDO QUE SEA DEL AGRADO DE TANTO ENTENDIDO ?
EL PROBLEMA ES QUE ESOS BARITONOS SON SOPORTABLES NO MÀS DE 45 MINUTOS ,CON DOMINGO DOMINANDO TODAS LAS CUERDAS Y TODOS LOS GÈNEROS SE PUEDEN PASAR HORAS.
Klara 8800 A mi el barítono y la soprano me parecen muy buenos. El problema de Plácido es q quiere cantar de barítono y de tenor y todo no se puede cantar bien. Por ejemplo elixir es una ópera q no le va nada. Es para un tenor ligero o lírico ligero con voz más sutil más matizada. No se puede cantar donizetti como si fuera puccini, todo en forte.
Klara 8800 Son barítonos de verdad. Plácido ya no es ni tenor ni barítono. Se ve q no eres aficionada a la ópera. Eres aficionada a Plácido. Como tenor hace años en repertorio de tenor dramático era bueno. Ahora no es bueno en nada. Como barítono según los especialistas es malo. Pq su voz no es de barítono. Como dijo un crítico no quiere dar gato por liebre.
