12/16/88 - the day Sylvester and Disco died. Take away, the physical, flamboyance, glamour, lights and there leaves the distinct, unique, powerful, soulful, perfect voice. Sooner or later dub remix is currently my favorite song. It is just perfection. His voice carries it into the eternal stratosphere that circles the earth. I swear some parts of songs boost up my adrenaline and his music just transcends you. In the 80s it was so difficult to get his releases. He is a musical dance icon that lives on forever. His collaborator Patrick Cowley is the father of electronica music. I miss his song releases all these years later. I discovered a song I had never heard before and it’s a gem, like it came out today (sell my soul LUP INO rework). Thankful God shared such a talent with all the world. Just masterful.
I truly enjoyed it as well. Many moments of exhilaration while the cold wind blew in the car cabin between New York City, Binghamton to Buffalo.... the lights of our top-notch cassette player beamed across the darkness of tinted glass windows and the smile of our gals in the backseat sipping on Seagram's Coolers enjoying our journey and camaraderie which would go on to change our lives forever.

Isso era underground na época, ainda mais nos anos 80 pós era disco, e tava bem longe do hardrock e synth da época por exemplo. Hoje em dia existe música de qualidade, visionária e original igualmente. Se não é "pop", isso não significa que hoje em dia não existe mais música " boa". Temos uma gama sons e de gêneros musicais atualmente, com artistas visionáries produzindo coisas incríveis como a SOPHIE. E você pode vê um pouco disso na cultura post-pop de hoje em dia. Assim como na época se via de Sylvester.

Okay so I found some records on the street, amongst them was Rock Your Box, Mutual Attraction and Too Hot to Sleep. I swear I thought Sylvester was a woman for a minute, then I realized he was just Sylvester, but all the same Sylvester is THE man! How did his drop off the face of the earth after he died?! I'm legitimately outraged, how have I never even heard of him or his songs! Of course the music I usually listen to sounds nothing like this but still!
Sylvester has been revered as one of the best voices in Disco (rightfully so), but because of that very fact (and the fact that he wasn't going to be anyone but Sylvester at a time where being openly gay was super taboo), he's sometimes pigeonholed and obscured away in novelty and nostalgia. A true shame however, because a closer listen to his vast discography shows range out of this world - he's absolutely one of the greatest voices to come forward in the latter part of the 20th century. He is such an inspiration to so many LGBT people. I was not alive when he was performing but I really wish he was still around along with so many LGBT leaders that we lost in the 80s and 90s. RIP Sylvester.

I was there and i lived it . It was all about the music. We didnt give two fucks who was gay or not. We all respected each other. Today everything is such a big deal. All the gays are coming out and so what they are labled gay and want to get married. I knew this guy was gay ,sooo what . His music had me non stop dancing on the floor with hot weman. His songs made weman hot and wet and as a 100% male I loved this artist.

May I also ad that a band like Culture Club and a figure like Boy George had a MASS ausience and he wasn't exactly what you would call straight and conservative and had ALL types of people at their shows from trendy teenagers to granny's to black people, to gay, straight e.t.c.... Which proves my poiint as a phenominen like Boy george today wouldn't appeal to such a divers selection of audiences as it did in the 80s!

@TheNouveauxdecadence I was alive for all of the decade. lol The only intersection between white / black / gay / scene was the radio mix shows (WBMX especially). No one club existed for everything. Club drugs have blurred those lines a bit since the end of the 80s, so they're important in that respect. On the video, I just thought it looked a little like when Fantasy Records tried to market him as "hetero". :-P

And one last point is this track had a very Electro Breakdance sensibility which Breakdancer's could pop and lock to which is why you also have straight Breakdancer's in it. Did you miss the leather gays in this????

2) So, what is the box? It only becomes more and more perplexing with each listen.
The BOOM BOXES we used to carry on our shoulders and play music in.....during the golden era of hip-hop....in the 1980's (including the cassette tape). Like the character "Radio Rahiem", from Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing (1989)".
