All the graveyard synergies in the legendary deck has to do with the negative ability of the face commander filling your grave with your legendaries and getting the treasure and resurrecting them anyway.
so a reason why Ashlin the Pilgrim is in the deck is because of the synergy with the commander or one of: The plus 2 gives lifelink, vigilance and indestructible. Ashlin doesn't sacrifice herself when you remove all the counters. meaning she's left standing while the board is now empty and you are a lot richer in the life department. and if you can give her Deathtouch you have yourself a nigh guaranteed boardwipe!
@@Tiredviet the thing is you dont sacrifice Ashling the pilgrim when you activate her ability for a third time. it just removes the counters and nukes the board, including herself(since she has no counters on her anymore.) witch means that she gets guarenteed xamage to herself where x is the removed counters. and with Denalia's + ability, she's sticking around.
I built the Jared Carthalion deck. I found strong win-conditions were “Simic Ascendancy” and “Mayael’s Aria”. Jared makes 10 counters. With a single counter doubler effect he satisfies the requirement for both of the above mentioned enchantments.
Note on Zeriam, the Golden Wind. It says whenever a griffin [...] . This card includes itself and every token it generates, so basically its an exponentially threat that every time Zeriam and its tokens attacks it creates double the amount of griffins. Combine that with the secondary commander which gives every Legendary Creature menace... For me this is a good card in this deck as consequence
My plan is to use Painbow, incorporate domain subtheme, and just have a laid back battlecruiser level deck that only needs to attack a couple times and not need to win. Not sure if Jared will end up being my commander. Oh and btw Jared's ultimate is the -3 ability ;)
Filter abilities like paying 5 and tap for wubrg, aren't that bad of an ability if ya got mana costs that are wubrg, including casting cost. I love playing sisay as my commander and jegantha companion 👍
Neither of these decks interest me at all, especially with planeswalkers as the commanders, but I'm extremely excited for Jenson Carthalion, specifically because it allows me to finally build an Abzan deck with Lurrus as companion, which there was no way to do before.
do mean a straight up abzan commander with the color pips in the cmc? or running a mono green commander, using lurres as companion to make it abzan? im confused slightly
@@Kopekemaster that's an interesting idea! Besides loving the art, I was excited by the low mana cost, etc. But in this deck, my experience has been that Jenson is weaker on the long run. But the idea that Jenson will give you access to low mana cost permanent good stuff in all five colors with Lurrus as companion is intriguing. I added Jegantha as companion and I'm very happy with that change.
@@grumpyinbrooklyn6347 Oh yeah, I don't think Jenson is a particularly playable commander outside of this very specific situation (that they probably didn't intend for). Its best purpose outside of that is mana fixing similar to Cascading Cataracts, which isn't exactly the most interesting thing for a commander to do. Getting an angel for 5C spells is *okay*, but it's not much of an upside because it's not like you can be jamming 5C 5MV spells over and over to make a huge boardstate.

at around 9:00, the thing y'all didn't see about Moira that imo makes her much, much better is that by the time that ability asks you to declare targets, any creatures that died in combat would already be in the graveyard and therefore be valid targets. In terms of evasion, yes, she has menace, but ACTUALLY she gives evasion to your OTHER creatures; do they block your other creatures and let Moira through, and have the creature they blocked to kill ultimately come right back, or do they spend TWO blockers to kill Moira and have very little left to block everything else? I think Moira is fantastic. Excellent card design.
These precons at first glance looked awesome, but I sadly would probably only get these decks to take apart for my own decks. I like what they were trying to do, but both just feel all over the place. Thank you for the video and budget upgrades if I ever want to get these decks!
I find that building a deck from a precon onwards and letting yourself be surprised is much more fun than go to EDHrec and get a list of staples. Or maybe im just getting lazy of searching for cards.
Love u guys, only critism is you guys focus on a higher competitive commander than me. You guys say most cards suck. Like how Shanid is way better commander than Dihada, when Dihada is WAY more fun and Shinid is typical competitive draw cards-so good. Commanders the fun format thats why I play it
A few tweaks and in the Painbow precon and is fine to play,just having a way to give more trample/evasion to those vanilla creatures it's enough. Blessing of nephilim, earnest fellowship,scion of draco. $5 bucks upgrade and it's ready to go. I'ts a lot of fun once you play it tbh. On the other hand jenson is a lot different as the helm of the decks and needs a couple more twist for a high powered -budget 5 color deck, having a way to fix your mana with an ACTIVATED ABILITY in GW while you ramp in green is awesome. The scry is underrated too.
I think Jensen's second ability is good if he's your commander cause then you can just colorless ramp a lot even possibly add training grounds and things like that , seems pretty good to me , but as a 99 for Painbow , not so much.
Bladewing 100% fits. Using her negative ability to toss cards in the graveyard, this thing could get massive. I could see him doing better by himself as a self mill/sacrafice deck though.
I’m definitely down to play the legends deck, but I want to cut all the legends that cost more than 3-4 and play it super low to the ground. Play a whole bunch of legends like Yoshimaru, Isamaru, Hope of Ghirapur and Heart of Kiran, 3 mana walkers like Gideon Blackblade and just go to town with Shanid.

Bought the deck before i saw you video and regret it. Now i am winning the most of our commander rounds because taking this precon as a starting base, now it's getting really powerful with "just playing big fat multicolored spells" :D
Cadric is such an interesting commander that I hope gets more attention. I built a deck with him at the helm that’s all about playing legends with ETB/LTB/attack abilities and it’s so much fun. Definitely underrated.
Not sure I agree with the hate on the Dihada pre-con. In my opinion, she is the clear commander. Her -3 ability pays for herself and with Xorn, while not legendary, can give you 5 treasures on turn 4 or even 3 on certain starting hands. This also feeds heavily into the graveyard synergy, which I leaned into when tinkering the deck. Also, graveblade has turned into a win-con multiple times for me.

and dihada is kinda a graveyard deck and bladewing is ok in here. aside from milling yourself with the commander (or draw/discard with neheb/kothoped/thrill of possibility/hazoret's monument/faithless looting/geier reach sanitarium) the first game i tested I had a mass removal draw me 16 cards with kothophed, discarded a lot and next turn I managed to play bladewing and make 12 zombies with menace right away. you also have some reanimation with primeval's glorious rebirth, teshar, alesha, gerrard's pendant and moira and recursion with garna.
@nitpickingnerds you said when the 10 mana beater enters the battlefield you do the exile effect but that ability actually triggers on ltb just a side note!
Yavimaya Cradle if Growth, Bootlegger’s Stash, Awakening/Quest for Renewal/or Wilderness Reclamation would be solids in conjunction for the WUBRG deck. Permanent mana fixing with the first two and then one of the last three.
Im thinking of runnin jared as a mutate commander. He can run all of the mutate cards and creates a body to start mutating onto that has trample built in.
im not sure that will work as intended. youll already need an angel out before the first mutate cast since jarred cant be mutated. So it not necessarily hard, but Ramos dragon engine is one of the best 5c mutate commanders imo

Jared makes kavu as a +1 which is pretty easy and he can come out relatively faster than ramos unless you turboed it out. And since the kavu are 5 colors his -3 will make them 8/8 in 2 turns with other mutants adding more keywords and effects. But my plan is to use jared as a generator to kinda go wide with to make various mutant stacks instead of one really tall one.
The one thing Baldur's Gate had going for it was the excellent reprints in the commander precons. Dominaria precons are a. Disappointment , but I'm completely ok with that.
Ashling the Pilgrim seems better in Dihada than give you her credit for. You +1 Dihada and give her lifelink and indestructible. Then you pump mana into her and blast the board and gain a zillion life. The biggest addition to the deck, though, would be Jaya Ballard, Task Mage. Giving her lifelink and indestructible and ultimating her means you wipe the whole board and gain about 200 life doing it--and then still have her to come back for more.
Filtering into wubrg let's you convert efficient mana rocks like mana crypt, sol ring, thran dynamo, , etc. Into colors to cast those wubrg spells in the deck. Especially in a precon where you won't have a good mana base.
I built Jared Carthalian DOMAIN MATTERS. Pretty fun with a 5c subtheme. You need to perfect the manabase tho for this deck to do anything. What were they thinking for a precon aimed at new players?
Relic of Legends is way better than you're giving it credit for. Like it basically belongs in every commander deck. You can tap it for a mana and then you can tap your commander for an additional mana. So you can make 2 mana every turn with it, which is a really good rate for mana rocks

If you ult dihada then cast teferi’s protection do you get to keep everyone’s stuff since they didn’t exist at end of turn, or do they go back to their owners when they phase in?
I think the griffin legend is not as bad as you make it out to be. It’s slow but since the tokens it makes are 2/2 flyers who in turn make more 2/2 flyers cause they are griffins I could see it being pretty decent at the lower power level precons aim for.
Painbow looks like the gateway for Coalition Victory to be unbanned and put into this deck. With that being said I better start buying out coalition victory at my lgs.
Dihada minus ability with gerrard's hourglass: You minus dihada, graveyard 4 legendary permenants, get 4 treasures, with 1 mana open you can cast gerrard's and battlefield 4 permanents. If you have Bladewing on the field already you do this in the post combat after making 4 2/2's with menace for defending your planeswalker, plus the 4 legendaries you got to the battlefield. I think ya'll hardcore missed out on the graveyard synergy here.
I was so excited for a 5c Planeswalker for my superfriends deck, but uh, Jared is a little lacking xD which is a shame, because he's such an awesome character >:
I think many player are over reacting about Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant not because of commander but because of previous standard where Alrund's Epiphany was busted and got banned and Pioneer where Izzet decks win con is Temporal Tresspass. This sure would be great in standard, pioneer and modern (especially with Karn, the Great Creator sideboards) but this card in an eternal format like commander ? Not really needed, you can't tutor it as easily as a non-singleton deck with something like 4x Urza's Saga or 4x Karn, the Great Creator
Im so glad you mentioned the 19 tapped lands, its absolutely unplayable and for 5$ more value this deck could have went "down" to 8 tapped lands. Just put the painlands you're reprinting anyway in there, ffs.
Just buy both decks, put the best parts of both together and use the new jodah as the commander. Legendary tribal cascade with an anthem effect to make them big. 🤷

In my opinion most players rob themselves a lot of fun by going straight to edhrec and copy pasting the decks, often filled with best in slot cards.

I think they're low on Zeriam. It hits and makes a griffin. Then it and it's griffin hit and each make more. It assembles an army on its own.

The mardu one out of the box isn't too bad I won two games with it only swapping a couple cards that I either didn't see or didn't make an impact.

The reaver cleaver is overall costs less than old gnawbone so I'd say it's very strong. Especially in Voltron or beaters deck.
or when you give vigilance lifelink indestructible like dihada does.. they kinda missed it :P
Few games I’ve played with the precon un modded it’s pit in workkk. Pairs sooo well with black blade.

Widespread Thieving from New Capenna seems incredible in Painbow. Or any 5-color pips matter deck for that matter.

I was thinking for the painbow deck to do a full set of 10 fetches and 10 shocks but they're so expensive. It'll be the first cards I need to proxy.

If you have Bladewing on the field already you do this in the post combat after making 4 2/2's with menace for defending your planeswalker, plus the 4 legendaries you got to the battlefield. I think ya'll hardcore missed out on the graveyard synergy here.

I think many player are over reacting about Gerrard's Hourglass Pendant not because of commander but because of previous standard where Alrund's Epiphany was busted and got banned and Pioneer where Izzet decks win con is Temporal Tresspass. This sure would be great in standard, pioneer and modern (especially with Karn, the Great Creator sideboards) but this card in an eternal format like commander ? Not really needed, you can't tutor it as easily as a non-singleton deck with something like 4x Urza's Saga or 4x Karn, the Great Creator

Im so glad you mentioned the 19 tapped lands, its absolutely unplayable and for 5$ more value this deck could have went "down" to 8 tapped lands. Just put the painlands you're reprinting anyway in there, ffs.
