Thanks for this I followed to open my JBL Charge 3 as it had rattling passive bass driver. I found out that the cords from the battery were touching the driver so it made this crazy annoying sound. I first thought that driver is leaking air but it was not. If you have similar problem just check this tip.
I succeeded to remove the plastic circle without damaging it a lot by popping it up instead of twisting it, I just used a flat screw driver to free the clips one at the time. Thanks a lot for this vid 👍
Hello, I also followed this video and changed the battery on my Charge3. It worked a treat. Thanks for the clear and informative instruction. You saved my speaker from the recyclers and saved me a heap of cash by buying a battery instead of a whole new speaker. Thanks so much - Peter V.
For the tabs on the woofer cover, use an old credit card, chop it in half, then wedge each half under the tabs, twist and comes off easy with no damage, thanks for the video!
just replaced the battery myself thanks to your video instead of buying a new one like my wife suggested. thank you for the video, feels great to fix it instead of throwing it out for a simple 15 minute problem. awesome video
Clear. Complete. Easy to follow. Though my model was slightly different, his direction was so effective I was able to quickly adapt. Thank you!! My Charge 3 breathes new life.
This is an excellent video - thank you! I want to note that there were key differences with my Charge 3; all the screws were the same diameter and length. The end caps each had 1 screw to remove and then twisting them off was very easy, no prying needed at all.
Thank you mygiguser for the relaxed tone and methodical way of replacing the battery. Well done. Your video + an Amazon battery saved me buying another speaker. My grill did not simply pop out. My hunch is that I have an updated design with the end caps slightly different from yours. I found two (2) notches left and right near the screws that needed prying gently around the 1:10 mark. Thanks again!
I just removed the end by simply putting a guitar pick under each longer tab. No need to pry stuff under all four tabs trying hard to remove it... just put something small under the longer plastic tabs found on two sides to get it over the ridge, and twist the end off. It's actually designed to come off like this with zero damage.
Great video and very helpful. As you noted, there are some pitfalls. In fact, I've put together carburetors that were easier. Some units have more screws. But your instructions and demo were great. My JBL is back to its usual great sound. But next time, I'm going to purchase a new unit, maybe a BOSE.
I see that there is a spot of glue under the speaker housing and after watching your vid I just lifted the circular housing to break free the spots of glue and twisted it off. Thanks for the Video!!!
Hi Eddie! Where are those glue spots located specifically? I've been trying to open the speaker to gain access to the battery for 1 hour, but no luck...:(

Thanks. Battery changed! Old battery was swollen and scary looking; sound no longer fuzzy either. I used toothpicks to hold open the clips on the round end cap as I twisted it off. Clips didn't break.

Hi how are things? I am trying to see how to somehow replace that dark and shiny sector that holds the central part of the membrane, which is like an area of metal or sheet metal. At certain frequencies they vibrate because they are loose and they lack that. I don't know if it's a ring made of some material, or just glue of some kind. That sound drives me crazy when it lights up like a bee passing near my ears. Bzzzz bzzzzz. If you have information on this, I hope you can help me. Thank you very much for your time.
They call that passive radiator. It is just a rubber membrane that is stiffened by a piece of plastic. If it is loose you can glue it back on, maybe with hot glue? Buzzing noise is often caused by loose wires behind that passive radiator. Especially those flat band cables make a sound like that.
