As in bible times, tithes in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints were once commonly paid in-kind, that is in crops (food), land, livestock, etc. Nowadays tithing is usually paid with money because that is what most people earn. It is also easier to account for. Financial contributions are easiest to process and use. You cant build a church out of apples. That being said..The church does accept donations in-kind.
