This pretty much worked out of the box for me (just had to change the I2C pins). I´ve used one AQARA Presence sensor up to now to get rid of all the PIR-sensor shenanigans in automations, but it was quite pricey ($50). Thanks a lot for providing all the information - and especially the working config - needed here and on your homepage! :)
A lot of the interfacing to the Hilink devices is done only via the serial interface. The digital presence signal changes state almost a full second before the serial is updated. They go from pretty good to incredibly good if you use the pin on an interrupt.
Been so busy man, but I am so glad you're touching on this subject. I got the Presence One kit and it's still sitting in the box. I love your method because it actually explains the reasoning for why build something one way vs. the other. Nice to hear you talking about the speed of that thing because I also wasn't convinced. I cannot wait for things to calm down on my end so I can get back to DIYing. Happy Friday!
I see why they matched it with a PIR after playing with it. After seeing the cheaper sensors didn't need the PIR as they were fast by themselves, I knew the direction I was going.
For 2.54 vs 2.0 mm that might work, but pin diameters definitely get smaller as the pin pitch decreases, so the female crimp headers will not mate snugly. You could always make up the difference by additionally soldering the joint as long as none of the connections are carrying much current (because of thermal cycling), which in this case, they certainly aren't.
Hilink has some very nice tiny AC-DC step-down power supplies that can be used to power the ESP from a celing socket. Size is only 34x15x20 mm called PM01. I use these with the LD2410B (with bluetooth) connected to Homeassistant with a Bluetooth proxy (seperate esp32 in another room)
I do prefer the meanwells of those as the fakes and issues with them kind of tainted the reputation on those PM01 power supplies. It would be great to find a safe power supply that would fit in a box that is 5V 1A out with screw terminals.
I just have an el cheapo VOC sensor in the bathroom and the kitchen. It picks up cooking smell, showering "smell" from body wash etc. and also other smells ;) If I pick up a single value above 5, I turn the fan or the exhaust hood on until there was no value above 5 for 15 minutes. :)
Great video as always Travis. Have you ever thought about sharing your node red flows on your website? Just for inspiration. You are the main reason I moved over to Node Red in the first place and I just think that it might be helpful for those that might be intimidated or scared of note red
@@digiblurDIY like I said you were the one that got me down the note red rabbit hole. And also getting away from the supervisor. Now everything runs separately from home assistant and run through node red and mqtt. So that way if home assistant goes down everything still works in my house
Great to find your channel. I was thinking of using mmwave in my garage. I would like to trigger cameras using it. I have no idea about anything in this regard. What do you do with the video to protect it. I would Iike a sd card and a remote option for storage.
I don't think I have. I just have a 5vdc power supply on the attic that powers my various sensors in the ceilings and a couple walls. I used 18awg doorbell wire.
So, would a dog or a cat just as easily be detected as a person? I know that you mentioned that a computer fan would. But at least part of it is going to be made of metal and so might be a stronger target than, say, a small cat. Come to think of it, I'm also wondering if you could detect mice/rats with it, perhaps inside/through walls...
Thanks for sharing your reasoning as I've been using a few different 24ghz MMWave sensors and you've convinced me to give the LD1125H a try as its super affordable and easy to setup! 👍 By the way have you heard of the Unity Sensor by Loopon Tech as it uses an ESP32-C3F board with onboard temp, humidity, light + HLK-LD2410 sensors with plug-n-play integration into ESPHome and no connection issues...?
Atom has similar products with pre installed ESPHome firmware, plug and play, and light sensors, but without temperature and humidity sensors. I believe that integrated temperature and humidity sensors are not accurate inside, especially when the radar module heats up, which can cause significant temperature differences.
Thanks to ur video I had a perfectly working LD1125H Presence sensor for last 15 days but now I have suddenly hit a road block, from the past 3-4 days it randomly goes unavailable/unknown for few secs and then starts reading data again, I observed this is happening after latest ESPHome update and also sensor firmware update ( I am just suspecting), is there any other way to troubleshoot it ? I have continuous ping command to the esp32 board and I notice there is random packet loss for few secs, pls help
@@digiblurDIY Regarding firmware I just do updates via HA Firmware: 2023.7.0 I havent tried a clean build yet, what I have done now is to change power_save_mode to - none and this seems to made some difference, I will monitor it for couple of days and if issue persists will go for clean build.. why is it so hard to find just a presence sensor. I have no reason to have a humidity sensor in every dang room or co2 or whatnot. just motion and mmwave.
Thanks for the video! Hard to find comparisons among models of this sensor. Do you know if the 1125H+ESP+Home Assistant is capable of detecting two people in the room? I think one of the Aqara models can do that, but I'd rather go DIY.
I haven't put the bme680 in there yet but I think this might cover it. I mean if someone is in the bathroom longer than taking a leak that means to me the fan needs to be on. Showering, cleaning with chemicals, or UA-cam Taco Tuesday thumbnail time!

I did see that pin but I haven't tested to see as these were faster than my PIRs. I will have to check it out.

If all you have are the bigger jumpers I bet you could pull the plastic off the jumpers plug them in and add hot glue to prevent issues with shorts.

Is this still a top recommended mmWave for you?
For simple setups yes. If you need zones I would use the 2450 model of this sensor.

Yes it should be fine as this is RF as long as you don't cook the thing and melt it.

You build one of those shocker deals and make them twitch.
