Good info ...the Novarossi I am running on the Savage is tearing up gears I'm putting the 21 in my Savage XL so It can last for it's authenticy just have fun with it I'm tired of tearing it up. The differentials on the Savages are very weak they last a certain amount of time and then they give with big engines.. they just kind of want to take him out and have fun with them not always replacing stuff after every run I'll be selling both of mine Savage X and XL if it continues ....these things cannot handle powerful Motors I think they work best with smaller engines I tried Robinson Racing gears all that stuff still can't handle it.... always replacing shit on it ....time for a 21 just my two cents

kawi man you are completely right. The Nova 28-8 is a beast of an engine and if you dive it hard let the engine do its thing it is hard on savages. But what I did so it’s not as hard on it is I use the hpi bullet proof diff cases, the 4 gear diff set, 29/9 ring and pinion. Than I use diff oil inside the diffs and red and tacky geese on the ring and pinion. Than for the transmission I use a light coating of synthetic grease on the gears inside and that I found really helps to reduce ware on the drive train. But personally I feel the best engine for the savage is the hpi f4.6 because it can pull and ride wheelies with ease and its plenty fast and most importantly it’s not going to tear your drive train up.

@@thenitronation5815 I hear you I use 1 million weight for my differentials.... I take that out and I'm rebuilding my XL right now replacing the rear differential with 500K that 4.6 is a fun engine I have a Kyosho 25 in my regular Savage X already shredded a spur gear seems that the plastic ones last longer oh well I'm going to find the right chemistry for these trucks but if I keep shredin s*** I'm done with them.. I wish HPI made those stronger but they are tough but they have their flaws

Too hard to work on?! Lol. I can completely tear one apart and put it all back together within a few hours with no instructions. The older Savage 21/25/ and SS however were actually lots tougher to tear down because of the non-serviceable bulkheads.

Diffs are shot or bearings are hosed it seems.

CBR Wix the mesh is off in the rear diff because the bearings are toast and that kinda mangled the pinion so that’s why I have a new pinion and bearings as well as shims ready to go.
