I think Daniel Ricciardo lowkey had one of the best drives in that race. The RB has taken a huge step back since Barcelona with the new updates. It's still not a top 10 car but Danny Ric punched above his weight big time to finish 9th, and he was only 6 seconds behind Hulk in the Haas which was clearly a faster car. You have to compare team-mates and Tsunoda was no-where to be seen.
It's also not really been spoken about, but Daniel Ricciardo has lowkey beaten Tsunoda the past 3 weekends in a row. Finally seeing some consistency with him now. He's gearing up for a strong 2nd part of the year.

It ended landos race entirely.” Like, you’ve been at this for over a decade-how many times do you need to be reminded that penalties are BASED ON THE INCIDENT, not the outcome. I enjoyed the weekend. I am an Oscar fan, he’s my boy. I’m with you with the track limits here, unnecessary. I will say that the limit of the track got wider in a way, as gravel was pushed away from the curb making it easier for the wheel to hang without being punished, but as you say that’s an oversight. Letter of the law my boi Puff went outside the line, but it’s just a bit harsh. I'm not saying Max is a media darling but the British hate is real especially when you see most reactions after the race yesterday and the repetitive mention of 2021 as if 2022, 2023 and the 2024 season upto the sprint race on Saturday are now irrelevant.
What I love about Max is that in next race in Silverstone, he will put off the British media BS questions who will all be hogging on to this one incidence, and do what he does best......and that is drive and compete. Can't wait for next race

The problem with the track limits discussion about how the space between the white line and the gravel, is that F1 cars change dimensions over time. So going with the argument of just move the white line so the cars physically can’t fit between them, is that then you’d have to change the racetrack itself every time f1 cars change dimensions. Like in ‘26 when the cars get narrower.

They are getting narrower yes, by 10cm. So if they lop off 20cm, that's the track sorted from 2025 til the next NEXT regs in like 2030 minimum. I think that's fine. With safety standards being what they are, I don't see the cars getting much smaller anyway.

I think because Oscar went all 4 wheels outside the white line then his lap has to be deleted according to the rule, I don't think he lost enough time from the gravel to mitigate the track limit violation, I think its different when something like Lando in china sprint qualy happens as he clearly lost a lot of time in the gravel, but I would love them to move the gravel closer so that you can't go 4 wheels outside the line without touching gravel

    • @TommoMcCluskey
      @TommoMcCluskey  3 місяці тому

He technically did go all 4 wheels out, absolutely. I'm arguing that at that corner specifically, it should not be possible to do that and not actually dip into the gravel. If the gravel was like 20cm closer, he'd have dipped, lost time, and there would be no need to enforce track limits at that corner.

I have to say I disagree with your opinion on Oscar's track limit violation. In my opinion that is a very "theoretical" approach you're taking but in reality we don't know every single variable. Even the cars have different width (although no car should be more than 2 meters wide). Let's say the redbull is the widest at exactly 200cm and the williams is the "slimmest" at 195cm. If you place the gravel 195cm outside the lines, then the redbull won't be able to use the turn at its fullest; if you place the gravel 200cm outside the line then the williams will be able to leave the track and not touch the gravel by centimeters (which is what happened to Oscar).
I think you should just have limits everywhere. If someone touches the gravel, therefore not gaining an advantage, move on, but if they are outside and don't touch the gravel, just give him a track limit violation

    • @dylanmonaghan3342

He was in my opinion clearing the racing line, knowing he could not make speed again. If Lando had good tires, he would have passed him on the left, on the racing line. If Lando had a puncture, he would stay behind Max, also clearing the racing line. Now passing on the right with deflated tyre is crazy. I don't think you can ask Max to even consider that possibility. And Max was proven right. Lando destroyed his own car by driving way too fast with a flat tyre.

Niels Wittichs interpretation of the rule is such a big shame, because he completely ignore the 2nd part of the rule "and gaining an advantage."
And it is a slap into the face for Spielberg as well, because they invest so much money and effort into these temporary gravel strips.

That lends to having to be more aggressive with these divebombs when the pace is so similar.

41:16 this is the problem with this statement…
Why should drivers YIELD TO MAX JUST BECAUSE HE DRIVERS OVER THE LIMIT!!!!!!!!!
WHYYYYYYYY!!!!!! I say let all the drivers keep doing that so max can keep showing his true colors and him getting penalized easier moving forward because of how he drives.
It shouldn’t be the responsibility of everyone else to yield to max because he drives a crashtappen style strategy.
Not everyone is going to be passive like Lewis in 2021…
44:10 max was doing that dive bomb move all season in 2021 u fairly and off track over the limit moves, AD21 divebomb stewards were going based off how terrorizing he was being all season and let that move go for Lewis.
You are trying to be to neural here but missing the objective points that makes maxs moves over the limit and illegal man. You have to take the facts for what they are.

43:15 That's really interesting, because I'm the complete opposite. I think Lewis was right to keep that position, and Max was right to keep it this time too. Lando's divebombing was really clumsy, and I don't think other drivers should be encourages to be cleaner.

Max has driven like this his entire career and for some reason the narrative is always that the other person has to back out to save their race. Done it to Lewis countless times, did it to Mick for just a points finish at Silverstone and now Lando. He has great single lap pace, but can’t wheel to wheel race for more than one lap without crashing into the other person

My point exactly. Why does everyone else have to compromise their driving style for max? Why should everyone else have to avoid contact because max drives insanely over the limit

@@livefast-xc8lm But from Sainz's move on Verstappen in 2023 we see that this wasn't a 'we yield or we crash' moment. Obviously Verstappen was at fault for the crash but Norris could go slightly onto the kerb, prioritize getting a better exit and overtake Max after the corner like Verstappen did when Sainz left him no room last year. This crash was overall nothing special compared to what we see happen all the time, it's just blown up massively due to it being for the lead and for which drivers were involved. You didn't see people complain when Norris forced Verstappen onto the grass in Spain, but when Verstappen leaves Norris too little space it's suddenly the end of the world

Leclerc litteraly beat Max on Red Bulls homeground in 22’. Watch how Leclerc battles Max vs how Lando battles him. It’s pretty clear that Leclerc knows when the move is on and that he can make the overtake stick.
Lando, all weekend long, was so desperate to get ahead he always outbroke himself or let Max get through on the exit.
Had Lando set himself better up in the exits of corners he’d clear Max pretty fast, the Mclaren was a lot quicker than the Red Bull on low fuel, clearly.

Max managing to cause a collision and still finish 5th because his car wasn’t that banged up but his opponents was enough to dnf… like that in itself is an issue and should be considered when assessing penalty points. Causing a collision and ruining your rival title contender opponents race but you can still score points because your only given a 10s penalty is wild and you just proved a lot of people points from your statement in this part!!!
