  • The Aral Sea, located between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, was once the fourth-largest lake in the world, but has diminished since.
Al Jazeera travelled to Kazakhstan and found a faint glimmer of hope on the horizon.

All my seven and more generation from this land. When I was 15 I started to realise what tragedy occurred to our sea,to us,to land.So I felt grief, hopeless and angriness, just like this old men sitting and crying in empty house.

I live near Lake Michigan in Illinois, USA. We are now sucking water out of the lake to communities over 30 miles from the Lake. The groundwater is probably quite polluted here and it is probably cheaper to treat the water from the Lake than it is to treat the groundwater.
Nestle wanted to buy the Great Lakes.Shame on them for killing an inland sea of fresh water. We here in the U.S. aren't any better. Up until recently, our rivers would catch fire.

Desalinazation plants are needed for the farmers and they could redivert the tributaries back into the Aral Sea.

Moscow should be bloody ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen, ok it started in the days of the CCCP but too little has been done in the last 21 years to at least attempt to correct the situation...

A very beautiful story, like the story of all life, such natural beauty and prosperity, then interference by man's grandiose plans. Dry despair follows. Hope remains alive and there is improvement.
Alas, what has been will never quite be the same again. We must protect all of nature. all of what is natural in our environment and in our souls. Namaste! @Peta_de_Aztlan

Calif destroyed the Owens lake, Tulare lake and the Salton sea. The misuse of water worldwide is staggering.

It made me think... the same could happen to the Nile Delta in Egypt decades from now as dams are or projected to be built by other African countries up the river.

I have written an article about ideas I have had as a result of this video for the sustainable regeneration and refilling of the Aral Sea. Please see vulpinedesigns DOT co DOT uk and click on the Freedom Of Form Forum link, look in the Vulpine Sea Power section.

I do not know much about the water consuming business of cotton - or what Parsi community in India may have had created damage as well years ago - but I have access to an Iranian article, I admire for professional and straight forward points written by an activist that may be helpful to other activists in cotton business outsourcing industry - booming these days worldwide. Contact me if you are interested to have the URL of article (Farsi language) You're on.
