- Osmanlı İmparatorluğu döneminde küçük bir sahil kasabası olan Mersin, 19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren bir liman şehri hâline dönüşmeye başladı. Bu dönüşümün sosyolojik sonuçları oldu. Bu sonuçlardan biri, ticaret için gerek Batı gerek Doğu'dan bölgeye gelen Hristiyanlardı.
Bir dönem kent nüfusunun önemli bir bölümünü oluşturan Hristiyanların sayısı bugün Mersin'de 2.000- 2.500 kişiye kadar düşmüş durumda.

Din dersinde konuları bilmesine rağmen hocamız arkadaşı hiç sınav yapmaz, direkt tam not verirdi. İyi bir hocamızdı. Hiç baskı yapmazdı. Umarım insanlar, farklı dinlerden olan insanlara iyi davranmayı zamanla öğrenir.
Ahaha ben de kafama kitap yemistim din dersinde kitap okudum diye
Keşke ateist ve agnostik öğrenciler için de aynısını yapsaydı bizim din hocamız 2 sene boyunca zorla Türkçe Arapça süre ezberledik

Bir ara Çarşı da yahudi bir müşterim gelmişti ve yorgun ve yaşanmış anlamlı gözlerle şurada bir sinagog vardı , buralar bizim büyüdüğümüz yerler şurada şu vardı , kalmadı eski binalar hepsini yıktılar derken o kadar anlamlı anlatıyordu ki Mersin de doğup büyüyen biri olarak eksik hissetmiştim şehri hala güzel binalarımız var ama bir o kadar bakımsız ki bir çoğu hala... Güzel şehrim güzel Mersin im. Renkli Mersin'im. Şu son yıllarda çok fazla kozmopolitlesmis olsa da hala özel bir şehir.

Diğer Mersinlileri hiç umursamadılar. Kısa belgesel sayesinde ilk defa ortodox kilisesinin içini görme şansım oldu.
