Frida is the bomb. I met her in 2010 when ABBA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She was gorgeous and gracious and let me take a picture with her. My hero.

This song is about Cassandra (means "she who entangles men"), in Greek mythology was the daughter of Priam and Hecuba, king and queen of Troy. The god Apollo, enamored of her, granted her the power of prophecy but, when she rejected him, he sabotaged that power with a curse that no one would believe her predictions.

Frida's punk hair! I love it. I think she looks amazing here. It might be harsher than what we are used to, but it was the 80s! I also really like Agnetha's sweater dress.

It says so much for ABBA that they have so many beautiful gems of songs like this tucked away on B sides or album tracks, ready for those that still mine through their work to discover and delight in. This is an incredible confection full of the melancholic joy that only ABBA could bring to a song, where every breath taking note is followed by even more breathtaking note. Frida's warm, sonorous, voice has a sad wistful edge that fits the lyrics and is complemented perfectly by Agnetha. ABBA's sun was fading in 1982 as musical tastes had shifted on to new styles, but the dying rays of that sun yielded some of the darkest, most (then) modern, aching, and mature work of their career. Frida, and ABBA, have seldom sounded better.

This song is sort of a lost gem. Frida’s voice is simply outstanding and it sounds so crisp. The song is based on Greek mythology, Cassandra was a seer/oracle who could predict and see the future. Love Frida’s hair in this. 😁

Frida's early 80s post divorce punk look with pink hair is legendary! Everything about it is so cool. The guy is wishing ABBA happy 10th anniversary and saying that they'll probably have a lot of hits in the future. However, this is one of their last performances together for almost four decades. After that they went on a break that lasted until 2021. Frida did a great solo record the same year as this recording, 1982. It was the most succesful of any of the ABBA members solo attempts. The official video for the single 'Something's going on' is here: ua-cam.com/video/p98PjtSfNWo/v-deo.html

Thank you for these new reactions in these ABBA Week
This video is from a 1982 German TV Special with three songs:
    "The day before you arrived",
    "Cassandra"
    "Under Attack"
It was one of ABBA's last television performances, on November 11, 1982,
coincidentally the day of my 25th birthday.
    (40 years passed, today I am 65)
"Cassandra" is a B-side to one of ABBA's two latest singles,
with "The day before You came" on the A-side.
In my personal opinion I like "Cassandra" better,
it's beautiful, with a great Frida on lead vocals and a powerful chorus with Agnetha
ABBA had great lyrics, some more sad or melancholic,
but this is inspired by a prophetess from ancient mythology in Greece
guitarist Björn has written lyrics with other historical themes,
already with "Fernando" in 1976 (thinking about the Mexican revolution)
as with "The Piper" in 1980 (based on The Pied Piper of Hamelin)
It would be great if you end the sequence with the last one next time:
"Under attack" (ABBA's last official single, until their 2021 comeback)
Thanks again for the new reaction
I wish you a great week
    My best regards from
    Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷

You’ve got to admire Frida. Along with the tremendous success she has also experienced hardships. Her mother died when she was only a baby and her father who she believed was killed in WWII made contact via another relative after having read about her family circumstances in a German magazine article. I think Frida found it hard to bond with him as she was reported as saying it was difficult getting a father at the age of 32 or words to that effect

    • @Train-mo2rj
      @Train-mo2rj Рік тому +1

What an irony cos she was singing in the land from where half of her genes and blood came. Norwegian by birth, Swedish by immigration and marriage, German by ancestry.
Some people often cast Frida as the sad one but I tend to focus on the brighter side of life. Having an absent dad or a deceased mom as a child is better than having an abusive, alcoholic or drug-addict mom and or dad. The important part is that she was raised by her loving grandmother who allowed and encouraged her to pursue her dream which is singing and she became one of the famous people in the world. Her daughter passed away young but left Jonathan her son to her mom Frida. So a part of her daughter will always live in Frida till the end of her time. Frida didn't lose it all. Her blessings when counted one by one pale any of her griefs in comparison.

On another note, I recommend you react to the following:

    3-Move On
    4- I Let The,Music Speak
    5-As Good as New
6-Like An Angel Slipping Through My Room
The group broke up the year of this video, and released a new album in 2021. I recommend the following songs from that album:
1-I Still Have Faith In You
    2-When You Danced With Me

    5-I Can Be That Woman

      Just showbiz of the time.
Hot women in spandex might not be great fashion but it is still light years ahead of these monstrosities.
It is hard to make two of the most beautiful women in the world look frumpy and clownish, but mission accomplished here..
There were too many browns and oranges in the 70's but women's fashion was generally pretty cool and a lot of the stuff has reappeared in the following decades.
