As a kid that had to catch the bus in the 1990s to go to school, the most realistic part for me is when Keanu is running beside the bus window pounding on the glass and the bus driver doesn't stop to let him on.

Speed was Sandra Bullock's breakout role. Most people had never heard of her, and once this came out, she was HUGE. I also wouldn't call this a "cult classic." It was a huge success, one of the biggest movies of the summer and the year. And it holds up pretty well as a unique action movie. Sure, there are aspects of it that are silly. But it's a barn-burner. I saw it in the theater. A great time.

Speed was definitely where people started to take notice of Sandra Bullock since it was her first real leading lady role. Then add The Net, While You Were Sleeping, and A Time To Kill right in a row after and those were her first big superstar roles and successes. Demolition Man, while good, wasn't as big a thing for her as Speed. Speed grossed over 10 times its budget at the box office.

When Hopper’s character, side, head, stabs, that guy, I’m sorry I forget the woman’s name on the right, the friend, but I’ve seen enough of these videos by now to know that she has very humorously sensitive reactions to moments like that, and I knew she would react, I just didn’t know how and when she wasn’t prepared for it I kind of laughed when she covered her eyes. 😄
The Lake House is a movie that was done years later with both Reeves and Bullock that’s more of a slow, growing love story in a time, travel kind of way, but it’s one of four of Reeve’s favorite movies of mine, that I own on Blu-ray, that if you can understand the way, the movie progresses itself, I think you would like it because it’s actually an intimate/love story between them other than the flirting they do in this movie.

A perfect summer movie is a movie that has it all: humor, action, suspense, and romance. That’s why I think “Speed” is the perfect summer movie. It flawlessly blends all these elements due, in part, to casting actors who are skilled at both comedy and drama (e.g., Sandra Bullock, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Daniels). Bullock, in particular, adds so much to the film's humor, suspense, and romance. Her chemistry with Keanu was fantastic. There’s a reason why she became America’s sweetheart after this movie.

A couple of years ago, in separate interviews Sandra and Keanu both admitted that while filming 'Speed' they had developed crushes on each other, but they NEVER did anything about it. They reteamed for a drama called 'The Lake House' in 2006, which is a very romantic film with a weird twist.
Dennis Hopper made a career out of oddball characters like the bomber in this...he was terrifying in the David Lynch film 'Blue Velvet', heartbreaking in 'Hoosiers', and his career goes all the way back to doing two films with James Dean in the 1950s...'Rebel Without A Cause' and 'Giant' with Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor. He was also a director with the classic 'Easy Rider' which co-starred in with Peter Fonda and Jack Nicolson.
Sandra did a sequel film that took place on a cruise ship (Speed 2: Cruise Control)...my advice is IGNORE IT. However, you should watch 'Twister' which is also directed by Jan de Bont (who directed this) and stars Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton.

The other problem is that the front tires become unsupported long before the rear tires do, so the bus starts to tilt/tumble forward. Bad news all around. If I'm not mistaken, the first bus that blows up was "out of service" at the time so only the driver on board. That said it has been a while since I saw the film so he may have just started and picked up his first fares.
The movie never disappoints... and neither do you two, another great react.

Definitely a classic. My sister taped a viewing on VHS off of HBO back in the 90's that we would watch whenever desired. Two things that always bothered me was the false claim during the medal ceremony that "no lives were lost" despite the man being stabbed in the head from the opening scene. Harry was shot in the line of duty during the elevator incident, so he would be forbidden from going on an active call to Howard's home, where he died so...

Here's a sweet story. Just when Keanu Reeves was about to start working on this film, his best friend, River Phoenix sadly died from a drug overdose, and director Jan de Bont could tell that he was so grief-stricken that he kindly offered to film the more softer scenes as Jack while he dealt with the loss of his friend. After that, Keanu Reeves had the courage to film the more intense scenes.

Jeff Daniels filmed this and Dumb and Dumber at the same time.. his character in both is named Harry. Fun fact, they actually jumped a real bus for that scene.. on flat ground with a ramp, but it did actually go over 100 feet. It also had to be filmed twice because the first time the stunt driver missed the ramp and crashed the bus. The crew didn't want to tell the studio so they quickly found a replacement bus and re filmed it two days later (20th Century Studios didn't find out about the wrecked bus until after the movie was in theaters). The second jump went way further than expected and landed on a very expensive camera which was destroyed.. and was also owned by the studio lol.

Excellent reactions, ladies! Always fun to see you two together enjoying a movie.
This was a big hit in the summer of 1994 and quickly became a classic! Back then the entertainment press made a lot about how it had been referred to throughout the film industry as “Die Hard On A Bus,” and it may have actually been pitched that way to various studios before 20th Century Fox (the same studio that had made DIE HARD (1988), of course) bought the screenplay and gave the production the green light.
Lots of fun and as you can see, the film still holds up today, almost 30 years later!

Plus when you mentioned how much pressure was on Annie when Jack slid under the bus at the airport to defuse the bomb. There are many subtle emotional comments you made that I found enlightening!💡

The funny part is they actually jumped a real bus to make that scene and they digitally removed the road afterwards, I saw it FOREVER ago on a show called movie magic that would go into behind the scenes details of the special effects of movies, specifically the practical effects like blood squibs, car jumps, gas bombs, miniatures. It was an amazing show that I used to watch as a kid.
