Why Forsyth didn't compose more, I wish I knew. He legitimately could've been among the greats. This is a masterpiece, and Chanson Celtique is on a whole different level of its own.
As a composer, I am gonna explain why. Composing is a actually a kind of turture to its composer. Because... We like to compose, but... It is hard to compose, it requires do much attention and time, but... It is also hard to live from composing. How much composers are really lived from his compositions? The people are not opened for new composers, they just want to listen the old ones. And it makes the composers only be relevant when they die
Apparently this concerto is well known because other violists played it in youtube. . Honestly never heard of it. I hail the soloist and the other soloists that endeavor it and above that they memorize it too. It is a nicely flowing work and contributes to the repertoire of the viola concerti because we do not have too many .And maybe from the Baroque era some.. other than Bartok's and the Harold in Italy by Berlioz which is not a full concerto being mostly orchestral. Ms. TIKNAZ plays it like she owns it. The orchestra is Turkish and so is I believe Beste ( in Turkish means music composition). I wonder how this work will survive 100 years later on stages but .....let us hope for the best !
I don't know when this came out, but it wasn't available when I played viola. It very nicely explores the different registers of the BEST OF ALL INSTRUMENTS (the violin is a shrill toy, IMHO)...
