    Great new van !
    It amazes me that Jayco still use the crappy curtains and a lot of the fit out components that I have in my 2003 Eagle camper. They are falling behind other makes of vans with their fit outs when all they need to do is bring the design up to date with modern fittings .
    We looked at a 2022 18 ft van and we were surprised at how badly fitted out it was for a current model van. Jayco used to build for a price that was cheaper than most other makes and you got what you pay for, now their prices are up with the rest so there is no excuse for cheap fittings.
    Don't get me wrong I am more than happy with our old Eagle camper but Jayco need to catch up and modernize before I would buy another Jayco,
    cheer's

      Its amazing how nothing really changes to be honest. In one way its good as you know how certain things are going to work and its great for parts. Its been interesting researching the vans as they do change each year, as opposed to the campers however its more features, trim and technology than the actual fitout. Quality wise they are what they are. I noted the ones in the Jayco yard had a lot of sharp edges, especially on the bench tops and joinery. Our 2013 Swan is a lot better finished.
      I should have probably ironed the curtains for the video, however I only had a 3 hour window between wind and rain so just filmed what I could. My interior styling attempt was certainly pretty poor and certainly not Instagram worthy lol. Now Michelle has added her touch its much nicer inside!!

    Awesome mate, I have a 17-55.8 on order myself but wont get it until later this year. Looking forward to seeing you work your magic on the Outback.

      You will love it Gary. I still really like the campers and will be looking for one that needs some TLC as a project later in the year, however the ease of packing, setup and pack down is a nice luxury!!

    Nice video mate. I have the exact van in 2021 model. You can actually turn that lounge in a bed by unclipping two clips on the table, then place the table between two benches. All you need to order is an axtra cushion to go on top of the table.

      Yes, our Swan you can do this also. I thought on these you had to buy an extra infill foam section? To be honest I haven't looked into that. It would be handy, especially for the 2 bunk Ensuite models.

    Those drop down legs they're very polarising drill or hand wind. Looking forward to seeing you refitting the van to 12v plus a few more things and information.

    • @WorkLivePlay
      @WorkLivePlay  2 роки тому

      I won't use an impact or drill on the stabiliser legs. You can damage the mechanism far too easy. I actually came across a real neat non invasive solution to the 12v so stay tuned for that!

    Can I ask how long are the 3 bunk beds . We have a 17 , 14 , 11 , 8 and a 4 years old . Just trying to gauge who sleeps in the bunks and who gets kicked outside .
    Cheers and thanks for the informative videos keep them coming

    Great detailed video. Just wondering what length the main bed is for those of us that are a bit taller?

    You didn’t miss out on new roof design. It is only on full height vans.
    Have look at the iSI bike racks for draw bar mounting. Expensive but super heavy duty, no worries with turning circle and can swap it onto the vehicle.

      We will eventually need to invest in and ISI or Gripsport sown the track. I'm going to do some ball weight tests on various packing arrangements to see how we are travelling. Just installed the spare Fiamma carrier I have and there is plenty of room - even with the factory jerry can holder which is great.
      My understanding is the roof does change slightly. Up to 2020 travel height is 2750mm 2021 onwards this decreases to 2690 from memory and the interior heigh increases as its now very similar to the wall construction being the bonded sandwich panel and not the floating fibreglass skin? I'm having to get our shed entry rebuilt as either way it is around 100mm too tall lol so will look into this after Easter. Another little project lol.

      Yes the plan originally would have been to get a basic version however this popped up at the right price. I will be buying something else shortly to renovate - all those projects will then go into that.

      You will love it. Simple things like just being able to go in and out when stored makes a huge difference. Enjoy the new pop-top, I have a few videos coming up on ours shortly adding the anti flaps, diesel heater and awesome solution for adding 12 volt outlets 😉

    Hi mate, thanks for the video, as always very comprehensive. You mentioned an updated roof on the 21 models onwards, what does that mean? Do you know if all Jayco's built from 21 onwards would have this roof? Thanks again, always enjoy your videos.

    Looks good mate, what is the hight when the roof is up and down? This style of van is our next step from an eagle just wondering if it will fit in my carport. I can have the eagle fully up and it just clears the roof trusses.

      I do need to 100% confirm however my research suggests 2750mm travel height up to the end of 2020. This decreases slightly to 2690mm. Our shed doors are 2600mm clear so I'm going to have a small project in a few months making this van fit!! lol Just about to head out to Jimmys Beach so will do a check measure when we return.

    With all the extras you have and that storage you want to fill as well as bike rack with bikes and 160kg of water plus gas, full fridge and food where is all your available payload coming from?

    • @WorkLivePlay
      @WorkLivePlay  2 роки тому

      Hi JJ Woody, our Tare is 1931 with an GTM of 2506kg. Noting the tare would not include gas bottles or water that still suggests a payload of around 500kg. I believe most vans with additional tanks usually get a factory increase in GTM. I am very conscious of ball weight - many fit say an ISI rack, 4 bikes and a large tool box with bbq, some even a generator and to me that's just playing with fire. The Fiamma rack we use is light aluminum and only 2 bikes.
      That all said, I have plans to do a full video on weights on the Swan and Journey loaded using a mobile weighing service. I really want to work through various scenarios and get them to provide advice on what they consistently see people doing wrong along with some solutions. I think it will be very interesting. We pack fairly light so we should be ok - we will be looking to upgrade the Paj, probably sometime in the next 12 months but its a real good example as the 2500kg tow with 250kg ball weight is quite restrictive. I need to get this organised over the next month or so.

    • @jjwoody6532
      @jjwoody6532 2 роки тому

      @@WorkLivePlay having it weighed by a mobile service is a must. We thought we would be under all weights but were surprised to find we were over our vehicle GVM due to a heavier ball weight than expected. We were just under out Van’s ATM and we’ll under out GCM. The Mobile Weighing Service were able to give some great advice and options on how we could address this problem. They provided us with a names of reputable engineers that specialised in vans and were able to safely increase our ATM by another 200kg enabling us to transfer the excess weight from the car to van. We also took every single item from the van out and individually weighed them and culled items that were not a necessity. It’s a arduous process but we’ll worth the effort for the piece of mind. Enjoyed your videos and safe travels.

    how much legal weight can you put in one of these before its over loaded?
    also how long and high is this van i wanted to know if it will fit in my space i have for it ? thanks

      This van has a Tare of 1931 and a GTM of 2506. Ours is approximately 7300m long (with extended draw bar) and around 2550mm high including the ac unit. I have plans to do a full video on weights using a mobile weighing service on both the Swan and Journey loaded in various configurations, including their advice on what many do wrong and what you can do to improve your travel weight. Our payload would be around 400kg.
