Super nice! First of all, this is one of the greatest jazz standards EVER by Duke Pearson! Second, the pianist has a "HOT" solo! But of course, Cannonball's version and Eddie Jefferson's lyric version are my favorite.
Wow! These guys are really cooking on Jeannine. First time I've ever heard of them. I was especially taken aback by the conga player. He definitely outplays congoist Ray Barretto on the version by Gene Ammons.
Wow!! Great stuff. I knew when I heard the short Minor Vamp bass riff in the opening that I would like the way these guys played this tune, and I was not disappointed. I just discovered these guys in the last few days and can't stop listening to them. Why have I not heard of them until now? A lot of modern jazz is boring and lethargic. Not these guys; they get it.
This is one of the best versions I have heard, but being old school and growing up with people like Cannon Ball Adderley (and others in the era) I am moved slightly into their version. But just slightly...Quasimode swings!
null. wav If you want some Japanese talent, Hiromi is a great pianist. Check out Mike Dirubbo- Chronos. If you want more funk-like try Snarky Puppy. Wayne Shorter's groups are pretty great.
