- There's just something special about a dry stone wall !!! The Fells, Dales and Lake District which are my old stomping grounds are covered in them and they provide fantastic photo opportunities. They can harbour a wealth of wildlife and so I decided to re-create one in a section of the hide area that was lacking in props.

Great Wall building skills Simon and if you ever watched my Barn Owl videos you,ll know…NEVER leave the hide ! 😂😂😂 Great to see the channel growing
Cheers Nigel, always worth having another 10 minutes!!📷🤞🏼
The first 10secs of this video has changed my life! Waterproofs on your wellies before you start, genius!
He got the idea from Wallace & Gromit😂
Once a fireman always a fireman....😊
Great watching your journey Simon. Well done on allny9ur hard graft, it will pay dividends 👍
Another winner for common sense. My waterproofs are kept on the wellies for quick access.....seemples 😂
Yep it’s the firefighter way, I adopted this way ages ago, with my work gear.
Fantastic that Si, what a great idea. I reckon that wall will definitely produce the fruits of your labour when it's bedded in 🙂👍. Looking mint down there
Atb Rick n Billydog
Cheers Rick, aye getting there pal. Catch ya soon 👍🏼👊🏼
Cracking job Simon. I dont envy you lugging all that stone up that slope. Them Buzzards are pretty sharp eh, never easy to get close to for photographing. Keep up the good work mate, look forward to the next one. 👍
Thanks John, yeh I wont be building another one soon !!Thanks for watching mate. ATB, Si 👊🏼👀
Fantastic thanks very much.
22 barrow loads of stone that’s a hard days work on it’s own then you built the wall I’m sure you’ll get some cracking photos m8 👍👍👍
Cheers Barry 👍🏼
Love the wall Simon. Good to see the hide up and running. I am sure I will succumb one day and pay you a visit. All the best as always, Mike E...
Cheers, look forward to it Mike 👊🏼👍🏼📷
Stone me that's a wall good job mate😂. great job
Cheers Ray, not bad for a first do👍🏼
"Great grafter", well done, it will all be worth it!!
Another great video Simon, maybe a small wildlife pond/bog next 🤔
Cheers Gregory, its on the list!!👊🏼👌🏼
Having built some stone walls in my younger years, I'll say you did a beautiful job on that wall. The the finest walls I've ever seen were built in the 1870s in northcentral Pennsylvania by Irish immigrants (who had earlier fled the potato famine) who worked for nothing but a place to sleep in the barn and food -- they moved from farm to farm building walls. Excellent photographs as usual.
Thanks for the info Woody, they could graft those Irish immigrants, look at all the canals they dug in the UK!!👌🏼👌🏼
What an excellent watch Simon you are some grafter! Lovely colour pheasant and always love buzzards ! Great footage, lucky gloves 😂 hats of to you👏👏👏
Thanks for watching Paul 👊🏼👀
Good effort mate that looks pretty hard work. Hopefully I can come up as we discussed and have a go in the hide😊
Hi Simon, I've been following you for about four years now, I really admire all the hard work what you have done to create your homestead, you really are living the dream of every wildlife photographer. Keep up the great work and superb content. Look forward to seeing your amazing place grow👌💯🔥
Thanks Jon, sometimes when you have a vision or plan you've just got to go for it. If it all works out, all well and good. If it doesn't at least you had a go!! Thanks for watching mate👀👌🏼👊🏼
Well done Simon. Your hard work is really paying off 👍
Cheers Rob 👍🏼
Brilliant job. Fantastic set up. All the best. 👍💪📷😎
Thanks Rob 👍🏼
Hard graft has resumed with another challenge for the lungs and muscles 😊.... I am in awe of your vision and amazing hard work to deliver it Simon!
"The world's largest jigsaw puzzle" 😊
I definitely like the idea .... a refuge for rodents and mustelids .... hopefully they will appreciate all your efforts and provide some photo opportunities in return 😊
Cheers Richard, you get out what you put in hopefully!!🤣👍🏼
Great job Simon
Nice wall! - and if J and I had a £1 for every time we'd retired with a numb behind trying to see a Badger, we'd be worth loads. I suspect Buzzards and all other wildlife are just the same...
Haha, all the same Aynsley. They make you work for those shots!!🤣📷
22 barrows! You’re some man for one man
Haha, cheers Damien. I thought 30 so got away with it!!🤣🤣
Very impressive wall Simon ,what a fantastic job youve done on the homestead so far, always look forward to your videos ,many thanks
Cheers Reggie 👍🏼
Who needs a gym membership eh Simon? Watching you put that wall up reminded me of building my pond with 2 ton of paddle stones and and only a vague idea of how I wanted the pools and waterfalls to look but it all turned out right in the end. Wall looks great and I'm sure it will weather down and be an awesome addition to your set-up. Be good if you can get a stoat in there too. 👍
Cheers Phil, sometimes the best way. Just have a loose plan and it all comes together!!👍🏼
You dud a fantastic job.
Oh I wish I had your energy! You did a great job building the wall and I really hope you get stoats and weasels visiting now and perhaps a little owl too! That would look great perched on there!
Thanks a lot, had a field vole in there the other day. Not a bad start !!👌🏼
Brilliant job your such a grafter looks amazing for your first wall can't wait to see the mice in there .👨🚒
Thanks Christine, saw one in there already a couple of days ago!!👌🏼🐭
big stones in the bottom for the foundation.
Another fantastic video Si ! Great viewing mate .! Looking forward to next one , better than owt on telly !! 👍
Cheers Flats, looks like your getting plenty of miles in those legs mate!!👍🏼💪🏽
one over two two over one.
great video and great shots
Looks great
Simon you take grafting to a whole new level. Well done looks fantastic.
Thanks John 👊🏼
Nice one as they say hard work pays off good to see the buzzard is around 👍 they can be very pernickety to get down once had one sitting for an hour and a half !! But it’s my favourite raptor 👍
Yeh theyre a tough one for sure but well worth the wait when they come in. Stunning bird!!👌🏼📷
Well done Simon. 👏
Thanks Gary
Love your channel.
Thanks Andrew 👊🏼👍🏼
Its all that fire fighting training Si.... nice to see you putting the training to good use... It looks the figs bottom mate.... spot on as usual... You are building a oasis for wildlife... Yoki..
Thanks Yoki, beats an indoor gym any day!!💪🏽😃
Simon, you are not practicing what you preach, you are going downhill empty handed!!! Just kidding mate, you are no doubt the hardest working man I have seen. Love the videos.
Thanks Neil, gotta keep going !!🤣🤣💪🏽
Add some boxes along the base of the wall. cover with brush. homes now for critters
No one ever said retirement was easy…. You done a cracking job of that Simon, have you seen Robert E Fullers dry wall set up for Stoats and Weasels… 👍
Cheers Smiffy, yeh it was some construction that was 👌🏼👌🏼
You’ll be fitter now than when in the fire service lugging all that stone up to your wall 😂
Tell me about it Helen !!🤣🤣💪🏽
Ay up Si. Could of invested in a motorized barra'? They are expensive but with all the calendar money coming in this Christmas you'll be quids in mucker 😉
I'm not that old mate!! Calendar on the horizon. Watch this space.......!!!!👀🤣
I love watching you work, your skill set is impressive, the new gatepost and drywall look great. Re the pheasant I think it’s a Reeves Pheasant, very striking bird.
Thanks for watching Sue, the pheasants are a lovely looking bird 👌🏼👀
Sounds and looks like you’ve built yourself an outdoor gym as well Simon!!! Great video once again. Hoping when the weather comes in a bit rough you’ll revert to some of your painting and stick making? The video you made decorating that stick with a paining of a roe buck head was the first of yours I watched, how many years ago was that? Keep them coming Simon 👍
Thanks Mongoose, yeh were out stick collecting this week so there'll be a film on that coming soon. 👍🏼
Great video Simon and very well done for your first attempt at a dry stone wall, you did a great job, it should work in very well with the rest of your hide set up
Thanks Chris👍🏼
I recall reading in an old gardening book many years ago that to speed up the growth of moss etc on a new rockery (or wall in your case) you can mix a weak solution of cow dung and water and paint that over the stone.
I've no idea if it works or not because at the time I didn't have any cow shit lying around 😊
Theres plenty of that round here Robert!!👍🏼🤣
Another top class video, and an excellent dry stone wall. I heard some where that if you want lichen and moss to grow on stone paint it with natural yoghurt ! Not sure how true that is but apparently speeds things up a bit.
Thanks David, yeh I've heard that one myself. Might try it on the back first. 👍🏼
I dont know what your wife gives you for breakfast ! but with that energy strength and fitness i would box it up and sell it LOL. Brilliant as always .well done be careful the local farmers dont employ you to repair their walls . Look forward to the next episode.
Haha, cheers. Fortunately I've enough here to keep me busy!!🤣👍🏼
Thoroughly enjoying your content Simon, and am thoroughly jealous of the wildlife oasis you are grafting away at, it is going to be a paradise when it is finished! Wishing you every success for the future and hope one day to book your hide for a photo session.
Thanks Valeman, its all coming together mate.👊🏼📷
Excellent watch. There’s no end to your talents. You’re an inspiration to us all
Cheers Norm 😃👌🏼
Love the video and your ideas nice one thanks for sharing
Thanks Brian 👍🏼
Watching Fri night 09:50
Another grest video, thanks. I want to get the Buzzards around me to come down currently they mostly circle above an ajoining fiel. Any rocommendatons for good lures or feed? Cheers Andy
I think there is a trick where you smear bio yogurt on the rock to encourage stuff like lichen to grow
It looks like the buzzard knows you were watching.
Aye, theyre crafty buggers Andrew!👀😃
Dang, Simon, watching you work so hard makes me tired. I'm going to turn this off and go to bed. After all, it is 0045 hrs now. Looking forward to your next development at The Homestead.
Thanks Clifton, sleep tight !!🤣👍🏼
You would get more done if you speeded up a bit. 😂😂😂
I know I need to pull my finger out Nigel!!🤣🤣
