I love the purple one that Paul used in his first instructional, with the silver mini buckers- I would pay good $ for one of those even though it’s probably a one off..
What kind of pickups are in these axes? I can't quite make out the brand you mentioned. I'm a little hard of hearing from playing awesome pickups very loud since the Reagan Era.
Pink guitar: bridge pickup is a high output alnico 5 from Donlis purchased on Aliexpress; neck pickup is generic from Amazon. Orange guitar: Fleor ceramic pickups from Amazon.
I've been a huge fan of the guitar you've got hanging on the wall right there... no, that one... no, th- yeah, that one since I first saw it. In all seriousness, the one with the zebra pickup bobbins in the far right of our screen as you're playing. I'm not sure why but that one speaks to me every time I see it. BTW, you're right about those Donlis pickups. They do sound great. Cheers.
Very cool classic Racer X era axes. I saw Paul and Bruce play live a number of times. They had Kahlers and used Duncans. Contrary to popular belief, Paul did go through a period of using JBs and Distortions for a stretch and Duncan Mini Humbuckers in the neck. Because Paul and Bruce set their pickups in parallel they had a very thin tone live which I didn't like at all. Bruce still uses JBs but plays in series these days which sounds a lot better. I only like parallel for cleans. Paul didn't start using DiMarzios consistently till Mr. Big. It was highly unusual for an Ibanez endorsee at the time NOT to use DiMarzios, but there were a few including Scott Henderson who used customized 59s, some with hex poles with a similar aesthetic to the Full Shred. Holdsworth was using his signature Duncan AH-1 when Ibanez released his signature Roadster model around '84. BTW your pickups and your shredding in this vid are incredible! What's the actual scale of these guitars? I ask because you mentioned having the builder move the bridge forward on the orange one.
Thanks dude! The scale length is 25.5 inches. He messed up on the orange one and it was like 25.75 inches so I ended up having to move the bridge forward.
@@thebaldshredder I had a custom strat built by the great John Carruthers around 1990 with a hard tail and a neck based on a neck he built for Clapton a year earlier which I really loved. It was a thick neck and even as a teen I had giant hands like Vai or Gilbert. The issue with the ax was not the placement of the bridge but rather that the neck was so thick the fretboard was an inch higher from the body than a normal fretboard. It was a design flaw but I wish I had thought of it and don't blame it on Carruthers. They were simply building me what I asked for. So the guitar, designed with a standard 25.5 strat scale had the tension of a 26-27 scale. Amazingly I could still play well on it, but everybody else hated it. I ended up selling it to a friend who added a Floyd. The adjustable height of the flood eliminated the issue with the tension as it raised up the height of the bridge. I could not adjust the hardtail saddles any higher. If I had a TOM bridge, I wouldn't have had the string tension issue. One thing I love about fixed bridges is that you have more snap, sustain and resonance than you do with a trem, especially a floating/locking trem system. As for locking systems I'm in that small camp that prefers Kahler to Floyd systems, but I'm in an even smaller minority that prefers fixed bridges to trems. If I want to pull up I bend a string. Very simple. I was never really into divebombing either. I played locking trems for literally one year before I moved to either fixed or standard trems with locking tuners and graphite nuts. Now I just go right for the fixed bridge axes. They get the ultimate tone.
Great video. But whats the deal with that mini chrome humbucker on the neck ? Would be great if Paul Gilbert or Bruce would answer some questions. Greetings TH
Love the Shred !! Those sound sound Awesome ! It's cool you found someone that would work with You on Your Specs and even with the Parts !! And He worked with You and built you a replacement guitar ! That Pink is Really Cool but I Love the Orange with Black Hardware !!
@@thebaldshredder Hey, love the videos dude! Finding your channel was a treat, I'm glad there's people making content like this. I wanted to inquire as to how I could commission one too, but I don't have an Instagram. Could I email you?
@@thebaldshredder yep... just got update pics today as a matter of fact. Gonna throw a Dimarzio Super 3 in the bridge and an Inector single coil in the neck.
They can't. Gibson owns the shape. After they made the guitars for Paul and Bruce back in the 80s, Gibson told them to stop. Another company, Gilford guitars I think, tried to make copies of them a few years back and I'm pretty sure the same thing happened.
Hey, great job NOT listening to what I said in the video. It was never meant to be an exact replica or "authentic." There are several changes, not just the bridge. Again, great job not paying attention.
These look awesome man! That's really cool that you mailed him the frets to get the size you wanted!
Thanks Max! Yeah I've actually done that for two guitars now.
Did you spec the colors exactly or just photographic reference?
Racer X! I bought my pink B.C. Rich ST-3 because of the pink one in 88. I still have it.

Props for the ‘Escape from New York’ poster!
I need to get my hands on one of these, aswell as the one paul used in the intense rock instructional video
That was a great breakdown and demo Richard! The tonal differences were subtle but they were there.
Yep. Thanks for watching!
I really like the pink guitar!
Thanks
Well. I REALLY LOVE the pink guitar. It looks like the Pink Panther And it really calls up that vintage Paul Gilbert vibe! 🎸💀🧨🧫🦌

Love it, some great sounds coming from those guitars!

Who did you use to make your guitars I'm looking to get a couple guitars made
I'm now using IYV out of Vietnam.
Loved it!!
Thanks Mark!
I’d love to have Bruce’s Green guitar made…that’s my personal favorite RX guitar. Is there a way to get in touch with this guy?

LICKS ! LICKS ! LICKS !
I knew you were lying when you said you couldn’t shred like Paul or Bruce. I see similarities
Well thanks! But I'm nowhere near as good as them.
Ibanez should release those

@@thebaldshredder Sorry. I guess you can still call it a Racer X guitar solely on the color, body shape and head stock.
