It's so nice to see a Brazilian brand expand to the point that they can partner with a channel like BW. Is this what it feels like to have easy access to the products you guys recomend? hahah
It’s crazy like, I turned 29 (not even quite 30!) and EVERYTHING changed - my skin, hair, and I am pretty sure hormones too. And hormones might be the main cause for me but I must state how much I relate to you, Felicia, as I also am an oily one, going drier as time progresses (and especially in winter in NYC! Eek!)
In my experience, retinol helps to improve skin and dark spots over time. But, it won’t totally stop all new breakouts, especially hormonal acne. You may have to modify your routine based on your cycle (which you have made a great video on) 😊
I can't stress enough, retinol 1% is really strong! My skin went through very rough days at the beginning. It was really dry, red and tight at first. My skin felt like leather and it was painful like a sun burn. Then the peeling happened and man, it was A LOT of peeling. And I was only using 1-2 pumps mixed with moisturizer. These days, it's a lot better but I still get some peeling patches here and there.
Go slowly! Paula's Choice 0.3 is mild yet effective, so 1%😱 get humectants serums (Cosrx hydrium ampoule is great), peptides to repair, a barrier cream (Illiyoon ato concentrate cream is HEAVEN) AND a calming mask: I'm from mugwort mask is incredible in drastically reducing peeling and redness! With these precautions I use 1% retinol 4 times a week, will try every evening soon, my skin is soooo smooth and clear 😍
@@Aaliyah597 Wow I'm actually using the Illiyoon as my face cream at the moment too! It really helped a lot. And I have that I'm From mugwort mask too!
You only need a PEA size amount.One-two pumps is over doing it.With retinol more isn’t more effective, instead all it’s going to do is what you’re experiencing.
AHA is good at least once a week (specifically in toner form) to swipe off the flakiness of skin due to retinol. Then just continue using retinol 3-4x a night. Spare one day/night for a very basic skincare regime. Like hydrating face wash and heavy/milky moisturizer after. It's all about being strategic.
Correcting Misinformation in This Video: α-Hydroxy acids do have an anti-aging effect. A FAV of 11%-15% results in higher collagen and thicker, less fragmented, elastin. Retinol doesn't cause photosensitivity or added irritation or cause more damage if used in the daytime simply by merit of it being applied topically. The reason why it used to be recommended to not use it in the day is that retinol is extremely unstable and breaks down very quickly when exposed to UV, being rendered inefficacious. Retinol has been clinically proven to work just fine without breaking down when exposed to UV under broad spectrum sunscreen. Adapalene produces absolutely no appreciable results in "a couple of days" - it certainly doesn't "obliterate breakouts" - and suggesting so may discourage people from continued usage that would otherwise have been able to receive benefits from it. Adapalene also has zero clinical data behind it supporting anti-aging claims in the OTC percentage of 0.1%, though 0.3% adapalene has shown to be as efficacious as 0.05% tretinoin in resolving actinic keratosis and solar lentigines and overall cutaneous photoaging. Adapalene 0.1% and 0.3% have both been found to be safe and effective in resolving hyperpigmentation for darker skin tones. α-Hydroxy acids have absolutely nothing in common with retinol. Medical publication Cosmetic Facial Surgery (Second Edition), 2018 recommends: "A topical polyhydroxy acid/lactobionic acid (PHA) or alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) 6-8% can be applied in the mornings to help minimize acne flares and to enhance the penetration of hydroquinone or tretinoin." It further continues to recommend avoiding using acids in the PM. Mandelic acid is not recommended because it breaks down quickly from light, which is not an issue with glycolic acid. There are also quite a few glycolic acid moisturizers. A famous one is the Kate Somerville. Ya'll need to hire your boy to fact check your content before you post it.
@@marziapisoni7086 According to that medical publication, that's the case. They note using acids in the day increases penetration and efficacy of actives, specifically tested were retinol and tretinoin, in the PM.
Can I ask some advice cause you seem like you know more than me ?😅 I'm on duac (benzoyl peroxide) so I'm avoiding retinol, aha/bha and glycolic acid rn, I only use duac for 12 weeks at a time. When I finish is it safe to use retinol 1/2 times a week, aha/bha exfoliate once every 2 weeks or a month, and my glycolic product is a toner that says use daily but is that too much?
@@CaityRaindrop The biggest barrier is going to be irritation rather than the ingredients themselves. Benzoyl peroxide oxidizes vitamin C but tretinoin was found to be stable when applied topically alongside a topical benzoyl peroxide. Applying benzoyl peroxide in the day and retinol at night is fine barring irritation. You can safely use benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid at the same time (in the AM), again only barring your own skin's irritation. If you experience irritation, back off from the salicylic acid. Irritation might not seem like much beyond reddening, but I any inflammation is going to increase free radicals in the skin which damage all areas and functions of the skin, and also cause premature aging.
You have the best outlook and really do embody what your brand is all about. Yes, it's great to have skincare goals and learn what our bodies need but we're more than our appearances. Love to see this!
For my oily and acne prone skin, I did try Retinol serum, Salicylic Acid & Niacinamide soothing serum and HA moisturizer all together and it did works! Drying my acne, fade the acne scar, but yeah, I need very occlusive moisturizer to not make my skin drier in the next morning. So now, I try another move, one day HA/Niacinamide serum-retinol-HA moisturizer, and next day SA&Niacinamide serum-HA moisturizer every night.
I'm so excited about those new Creamy products! The packaging is adorable. And marine algea! And cheap! I can't wait to try them and I hope they come out with more products.
I've finally figured out a good combination for me. It's really depends on me being very attentive to what I've eaten and possible hormonal changes. Things are really going well aha, bha and retinol at .025 (not all at the same time of course). I'm going up to .050 come spring. Moving up slowly. Thanks for continually explaining the how to's and why's of skin care.
@@star1Lu I layered it with a serum and topped it off moisturizer in the beginning. I am tolerating it well now so I can leave out the serum. The key is regular use. Good luck on your skin care journey.
I have to mention yet again here… I’m 58 & have been using the chemical exfoliants this winter & was still looking dull. I brought out my Philosophy Microdelivery exfoliating wash & my skin looks glowing and feels better. Sometimes you need a facial scrub to wash with first so all your other products will work much better. The scrub I use can be used every morning as it’s very gentle & also has vitamin C in it. Been using that brand for 20 years.❤️
Thank you so much for your honesty and showing that real skin problems do exist!! I'm 56, but when I see the acne you're dealing with now, I see myself! Stress was a big cause for me, hormones...it's difficult. I know you'll come through it well, and we're right there with you!
My skin is so used to retinol that now I can use a low-percentage retinol over a chemical exfoliant. So on retinol days I use 1% and on 2% BHA days I also use like .3 or .5% retinol oil after my moisturizer. Only at night. It works pretty well!
Even when I searched exactly for "difference between aha and retinol" only results for using them together and some results for each one came up, had to scroll really down to find a relevant video. Thanks for the video.
i used paula’s choice 2% BHA 4-5 times a week with no sensitizing at ALL. have done this for years now. Me thinking my skin can tolerate A LOT, i switched out my paula’s choice and started introducing other actives (like lactic or PHA) at the same rate i was using my paula’s choice and my skin FREAKED!!!! currently in repair mode with Krave Beauty’s Great Barrier Relief + Biossance Omega repair cream 🙃
Actually I think Paula's choice BHA is really soothing. When I use Pixi glow tonic every other day like paula's choice its freak me out.My skin become red, irritated I think PC has great formulation with right kind of hydration.
That's a wonderful idea! We do have two videos on layering actives in your routine: ua-cam.com/video/rSRmjxMDxy8/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/mR21Vbtx-3M/v-deo.html. Hope this helps!
You can use any ingredients together with the only barrier being the reactivity of your own skin except for: Benzoyl peroxide and vitamin C Copper peptides and vitamin C That's about it. Tretinoin was found to be stable in the presence of topical benzoyl peroxide in a clinical study, so retinol is likely also fine. My comment on their video about layering actives corrects a lot of the misinformation in it.
IN summary, all of them is good (AHA/BHA and Retinol). That is why I use all of them in different times but I use retinol 0.1% everyday. Good advice about using one or the other, not using both. True, my skin gets dehydrated 🤔 😊
I was just starting to learn more about chemical exfoliants to hopefully help with my acne and blackheads so this video came at such a perfect time! I'm still a little confused as I'm still learning but this was a great informative video (as usual!) Thanks BW ❤
I use both but not at the same time. I use mandelic or lactic acid twice a week and retinal once or twice a week. But I find acids are sensitising so I sometimes go weeks without using them at all
And that's perfectly okay! We rather have you apply actives according to your skin's needs than applying everything at once! It's great that you're able to listen to your skin! 😉
This is so cool, you use and praise a Brazilian product. Creamy is really good. I watch your videos recommending these assets since always and being able to watch and recommend products that we managed to buy for a fair price here in Brazil, is very satisfying!
I’ve definitely over stripped my skin when I was in my early twenties, using all the exfoliators. I now really only use 5% lactic acid 2-3 times per week, then I focus mostly on moisturizer and sunscreen and I have combination skin. Definitely trial and error
i dont know how on Earth u guys know what video i need at every momentsss. this is capture me so well every time i breakout, TO ACID or TO RETINOL?????
I like absolutely love this video. I'd love it with some other actives as well! I feel like I could come back to this next time I'm having one of these concerns and be like "ahh yes, lets try for something with these kinds of ingredients".
One thing that I notice dermatologist don't talk about is how to rotate retinol and chemical exfoliants in your skincare routine. Like if you wanted to exfoliate, but get rid of wrinkles using retinol. How could you do that? Because I know chemical exfoliants can not be used at the same time a retinol.
My acne is really flaring up lately. I have decided to try to use my prescription BP and Clindamycin cream everyday a week, except for one, where I am using the Good Molecules Overnight Exfoliating Serum instead.
Paula's Choise has had Resist Anti-Aging 5% AHA Exfoliant cream for years and it has been brilliant. :) Alpha-H Liguid Gold (australian glycolic acid line) is veryvery good and especially their rosegold version is great for more sensitive skin. :)
Thank you so much for this video, as someone with mixed skin (greasy T zone but dry cheek area) I always wondered what to chose between AHA and retinol
Will be in NYC for the first time (from Ireland 🇮🇪) and want to stock up on skincare goods I cannot order at home! Recommend plsss (I’ve dry skin, but suffer from hormonal acne too)
OMG! Yes! Paula's Choice I was testing that and wondering should I get a full bottle or not! Do you also suggest needle rolling? Is that really good and won't damage more skin since I have so much skin damage from using pimple tools back in the day?
I’m so confused, why are there products with AHAs and Niacinamide but it’s recommended not to use them together because they cancel each other out? I’ve always read that if you use both you have to wait a while before putting Niacinamide on so that the AHA or BHA doesn’t affect it. Help?
I really love Hyrams Retinol and Rainbow Algae serum. It's amazing for my skin, which is combo, dry side and easily clogged strawberry pores. It doesn't affect my acne or burn it, it's super gentle and I don't break out w fungal acne which is amazing. I liked the video thank you!
Can you also use exfoliants to only get cleaner pores, not shedding skin? I heard so often that teenagers shouldn‘t use exfoliants but I often have uneven skin and breakouts (sorry if there are any grammar mistakes)
Try BHA it goes into the pore and cleans them out to get rid of breakouts start out only a couple days a week and then move up to what you feel comfortable with Paula's Choice 2% BHA liquid is the best thing I found for breakouts and uneven texture and make sure you always use sunscreen when u use exfoilants but you really should always, also after you wash your face and pat dry then put it on with a cotton pad alittlegoes along way then wait a few mins and proceed with your other skincare or you can even try a BHA wash like cereave a few times a week. Don't follow the directions and use up to 2 times a day that is way to much for really anyone idk why it's on the directions.
I so agree!! BHA is great for "de-gunking" pores. Once or twice a week though I like CosRx AHA liquid or WishTrend Mandelic Acid prep water to make sure my BHA(I use Cosrx 😉) penetrates most effectively. Be careful with acids though because too much will make your skin purge { digging up more deep impurities meaning more pimples at once} . Vitamin C is also exfoliating and is great for post breakout leftover marks. Good luck in your skin journey 🤗!!
So retinol has all of the short term effects of AHAs and BHAs, and long term it has the added benefit of being anti-aging? So like can I just use retinol then? And be cool 😅?
I’ve been using the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant for about a year now to try to get rid of the stubborn blackheads on my nose, but I don’t think it’s really working because they’re still there but maybe faded a bit. Would you recommend me trying the 25% AHA and 2% BHA mask next? I feel a bit hesitant with that one since the AHA percentage is really high😅 would really appreciate your advice, and tysm for making these videos!!
Retinol is exfoliant? I've been using it for 5-6 month and wondered if I need to use a chemical exfoliant as well. My skin look pretty great now but i feel like everyone is telling how it is essential to use chemical exfoliant as AHA/BHA.
PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS MAKE VIDEOS ON HAIR CARE AND BODY CARE FOR TEENAGERS.....AS A TEENAGER U GUYS HELPED ME A LOTTTTT FOR SKINCARE BUT I NEED HAIR AND BODY CARE TOO SO PLSSSS MAKE VIDEOS ON THAT TOO PLS PLSS I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL A LOTTTT IT HELPED ME FIND MY PERFECT SKINCARE ROUTINE THANK U SO MUCH.
HELP: I’ve heard that using bha I’m consistently can make your skin breakout or not work as well after time, or whatever. Basically just that you have to use it every other day or everyday for results. But I have felt that i don’t always need it and overusing it can make my skin worse. But if it’s okay to use a spot treatment as needed, it should be fine for the liquid exfoliant, right? I appreciate that someone is being honest about how they use them.
Great video! I have a question about a skin care product, this might be a good topic for a video for you 2 (no need to add me). Theres a skin care product called "RFLCT", they said its to protect you from blue screen from your electronics. I'm not an expert but i never herd of this, and I'm quite skeptical of that product, can you talk about it or answer? Thanks!
Ok, everyone in these comments is so smart and I need help. I’m going on a vacation in about 3 months. When I’m at home I can kind of hide acne marks/dark spots but I really don’t feel like worrying about it so much on vacation. Any advice on products that can get rid of dark spots quick? I currently use Paula’s choice AHA/BHA, the ordinary lactic acid, and the ordinary niacinimide pretty regularly. I’m thinking about getting alpha arbutrin from the ordinary but I’m not sure. I love the ordinary but for something that works fast I would be willing to pay more. My dark spots have gotten better but they’re still very present when I’m bare faced. Any product suggestions?
How do I use them on sensitive skin?! 🥺 lately, I've been noticing a lot of red spider veins on my face, idk what is causing it. I double cleanse sometimes at night for my sebaceous filaments and to remove sunscreen . Help me out ughhhh🤧 P.S : I am prone to fungal acne
What is the next step up from the Differin gel other than presciption? I've been using it for a while now but I feel like my skin needs a bit more. I am up to using it daily with no side effects
I stopped using Adapalene Gel because it was drying me out too much and my skin barrier was messed up... Its okay now and I have been thinking about going back. My question is, can I still use it even if I want to keep using my AHA's/BHA's? I understood you shouldn't on the same day. But it's okay to use acids on the nights you're not using retinols? Thank you!
Will retinol help to reduce open pores? The product I am considering to buy also lists bakuchiol as one of the ingredients so can it prevent skin purging?
is it better to use AHA BHA toner with pads or just with our hand? cause when i use cutton pads i can see some left over oils from my face , so i assume it can also cleans up my face. but im just wondering which is better since i also have concern that using too much pads will irritates the skin
Guys I need help, i have an oily skin and acne prone skin, i used a lot of skincare to treat the acne but nothing seems to work, and I'm thinking of trying Ordinary, which one should i use ' to stop acne' ????
I also have this problem of having filled pores under the skin. I came to the conclusion that it's because of salicylic acid and dryness... Anyone ever had this problem and a solution for it?
Started using cerave resurfacing retinol serum-and bc it felt so moisturizing-starting off using daily was a NO NO. But I’m approaching my period where I tend to break out more… so now I don’t know what I should even be attempting grrrr
Start with once a week first, for about 3 weeks, to built up skin tolerance, then increase to twice a week/ once every 5 days, then 3 times a week. Purging is also common for AHAs & BHAs so you can expect that for about 3 weeks.

Why you don't use mandelic or glycolic acid !?
Creamy Skincare is amazing!!! My skin has improved a lot!
OMG I just started the video, but I’m already super excited to know what do you think about Creamy 🧡
i dont know how on Earth u guys know what video i need at every momentsss. this is capture me so well every time i breakout, TO ACID or TO RETINOL?????
I like absolutely love this video. I'd love it with some other actives as well! I feel like I could come back to this next time I'm having one of these concerns and be like "ahh yes, lets try for something with these kinds of ingredients".
Wow this video could not have come at a better time. Currently trying to battle closed comedones and textured skin (south Asian skin).
The Selfless by Hyram Retinol is also *SUPER* gentle and great for the beginners!
Creamy now has a retinol! Didnt try it yet, but there is a lot of positive comments about it
Thank you so much for this video, as someone with mixed skin (greasy T zone but dry cheek area) I always wondered what to chose between AHA and retinol
alright alright I'll try mandelic. Just ordered from creamy, love the free shipping!!!
Will be in NYC for the first time (from Ireland 🇮🇪) and want to stock up on skincare goods I cannot order at home! Recommend plsss (I’ve dry skin, but suffer from hormonal acne too)
thank you for this!!! new to the skincare game and needed this
OMG! Yes! Paula's Choice I was testing that and wondering should I get a full bottle or not! Do you also suggest needle rolling? Is that really good and won't damage more skin since I have so much skin damage from using pimple tools back in the day?
Stratia Night shift is an amazing encapsulated retinol cream!
I’m so confused, why are there products with AHAs and Niacinamide but it’s recommended not to use them together because they cancel each other out? I’ve always read that if you use both you have to wait a while before putting Niacinamide on so that the AHA or BHA doesn’t affect it. Help?
Ahhh Beauty Within + Creamy Skincare = PERFECTION!!! This is so exciting!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Am I seeing the Creamy's colors here? ❤️😂
@@juliacardoso1165 Spot on haha
I am wishing for them to review the Dr. Different Vitalift A Retinal.
PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS MAKE VIDEOS ON HAIR CARE AND BODY CARE FOR TEENAGERS.....AS A TEENAGER U GUYS HELPED ME A LOTTTTT FOR SKINCARE BUT I NEED HAIR AND BODY CARE TOO SO PLSSSS MAKE VIDEOS ON THAT TOO PLS PLSS
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL A LOTTTT IT HELPED ME FIND MY PERFECT SKINCARE ROUTINE
THANK U SO MUCH.
Thank you!!! I so appreciate this.
Thanks!
My fav glycolic acid moisturizer is MaeLove Night Cream :)
Have you tried Creamy's vitamin c? Any thoughts? Seems to be a C, E and Ferulic combo :)
Help me out ughhhh🤧
P.S : I am prone to fungal acne
this was SUPER helpful!! i get soo confused with what acids to use and what to do with retinols and this was really informative!
Thank you!
Would you recommend mandelic acid daily or azaleic acid daily for congested bumpy skin!?
Will retinol help to reduce open pores? The product I am considering to buy also lists bakuchiol as one of the ingredients so can it prevent skin purging?
Sometimes I forget to wash my face in the morning, would my retinol still be active at that point if I had put it on the night before?
Good Molecules has a great Glycolic Acid Toner.
Can’t we like use both? Retinol on those days that I don’t use AHA + BHA?
Can I use Glow Recipe Watermelon pha+bha toner and retinol at night?
My nose gets super rough and bumpy, but it gets like that every 2 days 😅😅 that’s why I always feel like I need my chemical exfoliants
Drunk elephant protini doesn’t advertise itself as such but it’s a moisturizer with a lactic/glycolic copolymer
Is it okay to use BHA and AHA in the same routine, say like Paula Choice BHA chemical exfoliant and Biossance Squalene and Lactic Acid Serum?
I barley started still video and I’m excited
I have a question 🙋🏻♂️ Can I start using retinol with the Ordinary 0.2% retinol in squalene ? or there’s better alternative?
is it better to use AHA BHA toner with pads or just with our hand? cause when i use cutton pads i can see some left over oils from my face , so i assume it can also cleans up my face. but im just wondering which is better since i also have concern that using too much pads will irritates the skin
i am teenager and i have to much facial hairs so can you tell what should we do for facial hairs
Can you use a texturizer and a retinol? And if only one or the other, which one is better?
can we use aha/bha and retinol together?
Guys I need help, i have an oily skin and acne prone skin, i used a lot of skincare to treat the acne but nothing seems to work, and I'm thinking of trying Ordinary, which one should i use ' to stop acne' ????
can you review the new innisfree retinol + cica ampoule and the mamonde bakuchiol retinol cream?
I also have this problem of having filled pores under the skin. I came to the conclusion that it's because of salicylic acid and dryness... Anyone ever had this problem and a solution for it?
Started using cerave resurfacing retinol serum-and bc it felt so moisturizing-starting off using daily was a NO NO. But I’m approaching my period where I tend to break out more… so now I don’t know what I should even be attempting grrrr
When in doubt moisturise it out!
what can dry combination skin use? I am scared it will make it burn and more sensitive.
Hi, where did you buy your headbands? Love them 💕
A'pieu has a glycolic acid moisturizer. Not sure about the percent though.
Your skin is beautiful 🤩
Where is your glass mug from 👀
and what are you drinking? 😁
Hii how often should I use aha/bha exfoliating serum?I'm 19 and its supposed to be my first time using this
Start with once a week first, for about 3 weeks, to built up skin tolerance, then increase to twice a week/ once every 5 days, then 3 times a week.
Purging is also common for AHAs & BHAs so you can expect that for about 3 weeks.
Suggestion for future episodes…. Interested to learn more about Lasers, IPL, Botox, etc.
I know retinol can cause peeling but is it really an exfoliant?
Hi Fel! What tea are you drinking in this video?
What to use why skin hydrate and combibed and sensetive?
Creamy is amazing!!!!
Alpha H do a a glycolic moisturiser, think it might be 5% glycolic though 🤔
THANK YOU SOOO MUCHHHHH
