No. It's that we've just lived through the most prosperous time in history, and only the older generation have ever experienced reality. The rest can't cope with not having everything they want when they want it. It was never going to last and too many people stuck their heads in the sand, opened too many franchises trying to get rich quick, that the population couldn't support as soon as there was any kind of problem in the world. When Sears finally goes under that signals the end of an era and a dismal future for The USA~! I was born in 1946 and as a child Sears and Roebuck was a big part of our daily lives as we always lived in a small town and our Sears Store was where we got most everything we needed and used in our home and My Mother always waited for The Christmas Catalog to start the season. My Grandmother's Farm always had the past years' catalog hanging by a nail in her Out House for doing your business~! My Dad bought my first Motor Cycle from the Catalog and a 22 Pistol for himself. Also my tool box and all my tools were bought there as their guarantee was for life~!! All my school clothes came from there and I received the Best Dressed Award from my Hi School in 1964 because of the clothes bought from the catalog. This works really well in small retail stores, but larger it gets and more customers it gets the harder it is to personalize service and more hellish it becomes on the workers. But those stores that do it well are worth supporting. Unfortunately the few stores I've seen that still do personalized service are very specialized and sell items that most people don't need regularly, meaning they aren't going to be making as many sales annually per customer as a larger store.
This is what happens in mixed economies with politicians who buy votes with socialism and welfare while increasing legislation rather than getting rid of it.

No you haven’t. You’ve watched spa segment on a “news” outlet that’s sole mission is to protect the interest of the capital owners and push a narrative that crime is on the rise. If you’ve done more than watched tv and actually looked at the numbers provided by cops themselves, all crime across the board has steadily declined since 1990. Property crime, that which you imagine is on the rise, has not increased in recent years. Post pandemic lock down violent crimes, mostly gun crimes, in the US slightly rose because the entire country was on lockdown for several months in 2020 so it was harder for folks to do crime.

I remember walking around giant 'big box' stores in the late 1990s and just being puzzled by how on earth they made enough to pay the rent and keep the lights on given how few customers seemed to be actually buying things. The trend now seems to be putting everything online or automating jobs out of existence.
Jobs have been getting "automated out of existence" ever since the Industrial Revolution began and 90% of the workers were in agriculture. It will keep happening and the economy will become ever more complex as new jobs are invented. 40 years ago there was no such thing as an IT specialist.
@S0ulinth3machin3 yeah but most IT jobs are redundant, companies increase cultural homogenization, and the more we play into the feedback loop, the tighter the grip algorithms have over communication. The nature of isolation is totalization.
Well I wouldn't say that they're exactly staying away from it, I mean I've seen in many cases where the dollar store is the busiest damn store in the middle of the afternoon in the middle of the week. Yeah it's true prices have went up, by the dollar store is still the hell of a lot cheaper than anywhere else. And I will say to a large degree you do not go to the dollar store for quality you go there for quantity. And that applies no matter what decade you want to refer to.
Dollar stores are being overrun by the criminal gangs of the protected classes -- especially the homeless looter class. Their employees are terrorized and their shelves are emptied by thievery.
Plus, they’re not even dollar stores anymore. Some dollar stores are selling things up to $20 randomly. Also, in a lot of states it’s gone up to $1.50 per item instead of a dollar. One local dollar store that I often go to was at $1.11 for the longest time, they have gone up to $1.55 within a year.
Don't worry. When there is only one retailer (sooner than you think), they will have one variety of whatever you need. And the quality won't matter, because it's not like you'll have a choice. It's going to be great! Trust me.
Most of these stores were “mall stores”. Back n the 70’s and 80’s when you coyld pay your rent, car payment, utilities, food and still have enough to spend on nice gifts, an outfit for a date, a movie night and dinner. Just trying to keep a home, car and other Necessities is more important. Consumerism and corporate greed 😊has killed the consumer
They grew themselves into bankruptcy...poor management. If you don't keep your exclusivity by maintaining balance..you experience saturation.Keep the stores that are doing great and try to liquidate your debt of which you over evaluated.Basically, never get greedy.
I work in the construction supply industry, and it's starting to slow and massively. They say if the construction sector goes, then everything else follows that's what happened in 2008. People above my position are starting to worry. People are struggling to pay the household bills, and with the cost of food and fuel rising, having building work done is not even on the list. People can't afford mortgages, so new homes are not being built, and construction sites are closing. This time, I fear it's going to be far worse than 2008. I my job goes with it, then this time I'm going to walk away and find a new start elsewhere but not sure where yet.
@Adrian Jeffrey something is different this time. We can't get materials, and if and when we can, it's very expensive, which puts customers off from buying it. Peoples pay is not rising, I think that's why governments are happy to let more immigrants into countries to try and suppress pay and keep it low (people at the top can have nore money but working people can't!). But everyone suffers as prices rise and everyone can't afford them. Almost feels like governments, the rich elites are doing this on purpose. Also, young people don't see the construction industry as a future job. They would rather try to make money from the Internet, why work hard when you can try to work smart, unfortunately buildings still need to be built and the complexity of it, would dictate robots would be a long time before they take over in the construction industry. It may collapse before that anyway.

I worked at sears in the 80`s. Once a year an inventory sheet came from the home office letting us know what the store should have in stock and how many of each item. We had a surplus of 3 mopeds and one go-cart in my dept. Well management sent them to the auto shop to be cut up and thrown away. I saw tons of tools and tool kits go into the dumpster. I was shocked to see what was being destroyed and trashed. Imagine throwing away your inventory because some sheet says you have to many. No wonder sears is going away. When you put stupid people in charge this is what happens.
It could’ve been because they used those destroyed mopeds as a tax write off
I bought a coffee pot from Sears. Black & Decker. Lasted me for 10 years! Only item I needed & was on sale. Sears was also great for children’s clothes because they offered a warranty that if the article wore out before the kid outgrew it then they would replace it. They never met my boys! Lol! Really rough on their clothes. We bought our two boys new snow suits for $150 each about 16 years ago. My oldest blew out his zipper. We lost the receipt. I paid $25 to have it replaced. When the youngest son blew his zipper a week later, I had already dusted off my computer and started learning.

Crazy, right?
I went to a local store that sells nice household items - curtains, sheets, glassware, etc. The kind of store you visit if looking for wedding gifts. We paid a visit early this year. I asked the sales clerk how were things at Christmas. She said there was a rush. She pointed to some bedlinens and said, "That's all that's left." Said that when they were trundling out the stock to put it on the shelves, customers took it off the pallet. They were nice sheets - thick fabrics (I bought extra pillowcases I needed). But she said that the other staff (she was recently hired) said that the crowds were less. She was concerned because she knew that in tough economic times, stores like where she worked were going to be the first that people stop coming to. Didn't know what to tell her because it was true. 🥺

Property crime, that which you imagine is on the rise, has not increased in recent years. The trend now seems to be putting everything online or automating jobs out of existence.
This is the result of the COVID19 lie, placing everybody to hide in their homes, out of work, losing their homes, their jobs, their kids ultimately.

@They own you, if you're in debt. 99 cent stores in LA were just nasty. I bet with crime going up these places are just even dodgier than before.

People above my position are starting to worry. People are struggling to pay the household bills, and with the cost of food and fuel rising, having building work done is not even on the list. People can't afford mortgages, so new homes are not being built, and construction sites are closing. This time, I fear it's going to be far worse than 2008. I knew I might need to find something else to do when I was working construction and Austin back in 2019 and it seemed to be a severe labor shortage.
