The Union Budget is likely to propose laying of 100,000 km of new railway tracks over the next 25 years, according to a report by Mint. The new tracks will modernise the network and boost train speeds, the report added quoting people aware of that matter. The budget is also likely to set aside Rs 10,000 crore to electrify 7,000 km of broad gauge line in FY24 and will complete the electrification of the entire network. Laying the new tracks will be part of a new vision document for the national transporter and will be done in phases over 25 years with a new track construction target of around 4,000 km in FY24 itself. The budget for new tracks may also be doubled to over Rs 50,000 crore, the report added. At current costs, laying normal 100,000 km tracks would cost Rs 15-20 trillion. This could vary depending on the movement of prices of basic inputs such as steel.

Cuz Railway can't build lines everywhere so it should well connected by Roadways. And underdeveloped state really need These railway line ( Odisha, Jharkhand,and some NE States

It's one time investments . Currently RRTS cost 3B per 100km . If you remove land cost( which they can borrow from railway ) , it will be much less. In 300B (which they intend to invest ) , more than 15,000km line could be built .

They have to re-engineer stuff like curves so that trains can run over 250 km/hr. At that point, there can just be bullet rails all over the place.
If there is planning for 25 year then government should set a Target of atleast 250KMPH.
Otherwise even after 25 years it look like slower than rest of world.
No HSR tracks would be there for 250 kmph +
Only Semi high normal travel trains will be 200kmph.

I think the total requirement of Railway tracks route wise is 100000kms. We don't need any further. Money (extra as work is already been done in this regard) should be spent to modernrise existing railway infrastructure i.e. upgrading of signalling system, fencing of tracks, removal of all level crossings and track upgradation to withstand 180-200kmph. If India manages to achieve this by 2030 then even on current 68k route lenth the capacity is expected to atleast double thus it would be a quantum jump in revenues for the nation.
This would require a tonne of investment.
Also we should not build High Speed corridors beyond the golden quadrilateral and it's diagonals. Anything more than that would be a loss making venture.

The first thing India needs to do is to adopt a more modern signalling system getting rid of block signalling and adopting some form of an automated train management system. This will reduce headway between consecutive trains and lead to more utilization of existing tracks. In a lot of main lines, the headway is still 15 mins which is highly inefficient compared to more modern systems where headways can be as little as 3-5 mins
There is already a system for it called Kavach, but it has not been in production now.

In order to make Indian small towns and villages. The federal government must show enthusiasm and work directly to developing institutions of better education and infrastructure development. Many will not see 2047 this is a patriarchal mindset. Even the ones born now, many of them especially girls will have kids approx 5-6 years old. This is slow progress especially when China had laid 20000 KMs of bullet trains in less than 20 years, the less you talk about other railway infra the better.
