I really don't get why people get so confused about the original ending, it seems like a pretty cut and dry, your depression and mental illness is lieing to you, be happy and don't let it get you down message. Of course I have an axiety disorder myself so I probably would get it faster than others.

@@elizabethsmith7224 you must not have understood any of the story, because like half of it simply wasn't resolved. The ending was extremely abstract compared to the rest of the series. If you didn't finish the series with any questions you must not have understood it at all. Or you're just only looking at it from your own perspective and don't see other angles other than those you noticed when you first watched it.

@@elizabethsmith7224 the issue with the original 24/25 vs End of Eva is that they completely let the real world plot fall by the wayside. I get most of what's happening in the original 24/25 but without any of the plot context introducesd in the movie other than a a few stills of tanging. So it's like I only have one half of the story to go off. A big issue with the original series is the questionable pacing in the last 5 episodes. Kaworu's relationship with Shinji comes and goes in the course of basically an episode, and then we only get half of the final two episode unless you watch End of Eva. I always say that you should watch 1-23, then End of Eva then the original 24/25, because the originals work best as a companion piece to End of Eva.
How does anyone think "Let's make sex sounds for a AIDS PSA" and immediately after "Sex sounds are too realistic" like what did they expected?

Maybe they eventually thought that it wasn't a good idea to air an AIDS PSA with sex noises, so just scrapped the whole thing; it is a weird reason for scrapping a PSA featuring sex, though, that seems like something where realistic sex sounds would be desirable.

Voice acting is voice acting. If you can sound convincingly like a teenager, that's pretty much all that matters.

And in the case of a shady partner, it's the one who believes in "commitment" that suffers, so that's not even a good survival strategy unless you're a telepath. The worst/best part is in my opinion that this intimate interweaving of sex and death is 100% on brand with EVA's storytelling. Setting that aside, I find it really cool how you actually acquired this. It reminds me of the way that Petrea Burchard - the original voice of Ryoko for Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki - has for years stayed incredibly active in the Tenchi Muyo! fan community in the West. She even had a voice cameo at the end of an obscure little abridged series. I think it's really cool how a lot of these voice actors have held onto this affection for those older dubs that you kind of don't get to see anymore with dubbing becoming bigger and more centralized. On the one hand, it's good that voice actors can now seriously make a career off of dubbing anime. But, I can't help but really think that I'd miss it if voice actors lost that really intimate connection with particular fandoms for the projects where they kind of got their start, at least in terms of anime dubs. Wow this really turned into a ramble, huh? I don't know why I've talked this long! Why are you still reading this? Go get a bite to eat!
