Mick is one of the my Top 3 inspirational guitarist.
He inspires me in terms of rhythm playing. His right hand is so sick
How much does he write these days?
TheTillhammer majority of sk is written by Jim root
Stay Metal Ray we all know how he’s able to downstroke so fast...
Practice
My first guitar was Micks signature mtm1in black. I still have it, also have Jim's signature as well. If it wasn't for Slipknot, I wouldn't have ever been inspired to play guitar.
thats quite the first guitar, just curious what was your first amp.
Since "The Gray Chapter" (IMO, of course), Mick is one of the most underrated guitarists and I think he can do more and better things if he wanted to. Also great guitar, great guitar tone and of course, great video!
This cheapest thing is practice down picking all day and everyday because you definitely need that right hand!!!! , he has used VHT pitbulls, Rivera knucklehead or his KR7 (usually you can find one under 1,500), he has used v30,T75, and most recently K100 speakers this is before obviously joining eminence. Seymour Duncan emty blackouts obviously mahogany body, maple neck, and ebony fretboards on the guitars. Hes definitely one of my all time favorite guitarist 🤘🤘
Seeing this right after I bought orange everything for Jim tone
I picked up the Granophyre plugin during their Easter sale, it was 30% off! Just keep an eye on Neural, I'm sure it'll go on sale again
Snap
Yo which amp exactly did you bought?
I realized one thing for sure , the tone chasing journey never ends .
I think Mick has always had the sickest tone! Very iconic and identifiable !
Man you can't even cover a song without getting demonitised? No one is gonna choose to listen to a cover riff on UA-cam over the real song! 😡 Great video!
Thanks so much!
I did a cover of Jimmy Eat World's "The Middle" a few weeks ago - I got copyright claimed for a completely different song with a similarish sorta intro. UA-cam is hectic like that lol
That's lame as hell sucks man
Record Industry will say you can't even play in style of Slipknot give them time...
I’ll still be able to. You can’t copyright something that isn’t yours
@@xanderraymondcharles I was being sarcastic 😅 I know dude it's just everyone nowadays is so touchy all the corporate nonsense...keep it real 🤘
Haha but hey who knows they might try it!
That’s funny. I’m not a Mick fan really, but this past year I managed to grab one of his signature Jackson Soloists... as well as the Neural DSP Omega plug-in. I didn’t know Mick used that. It’s wild how much a band I have really disliked, in all honesty, has shaped my tone as of late lol
Your guitar playing style is never complete unless you put that badass angry riffing face! Keep going! Love your content!!
Sounds sick, I really like Mick, he inspired me to play guitar but I have trouble with pinch harmonics its pretty hard to nail them for me
Tune your guitars to 427 Hz to avoid copyright claims.
I think mick should make a signature v with Jackson that would be sick
We need Mick Thompson and Mick Gordon to do a collab. The Micks of Metal must be united!
This helped me out so much, if it's not too much trouble for you can you do how to get mick's early day sounds, like Iowa and the self-titled album?
That's exactly what I wanna know, Mick's Iowa tone is simply my favorite guitar tone of all time, it's just so agressive, dirty and heavy and still tight af.
@staymetalray
I think piranha pre-amp with JCM-800?
Dude - mick is one of my favourite players! Loving it man!!!
Wondering if that Omega amp is like a hot rodded 5150 circuit. Soldano to Marshall if you will. That 6-6-6 setting is typical on 5150’s.
It had that similar vibe when I tried it out actually. I preferred it to the fortin style ones personally.
Tone sounded pretty spot on. Good thing with Mick is that he has a version of his signature that is made overseas that's only around 900 bucks and you still get his signature Blackout pick ups with it. So that combined with a solid computer and the omega plug in you can have his tone for under 2 grand. I'm actually going the route of getting myself a plug in along with a new desktop computer to run it. What kind of studio monitors are you using with your computer?
love you dude! love your enthusiasm
Great video dude!
Hey thank you so much!
The best I can do is a JB Humbucker in the bridge position of my Charvel San Dimas, a Fender Tube Amp, and a limited pedal board. I'm going to have to check with the wife on our budget and buy a second San Dimas (in Specific Ocean of course) and get some EMGs installed...you'll have to talk to her if she mentions something about our daughter's college fund. On a serious note...you are one of my favorite guitar channels...I wish I was already playing when I was your age (I started playing at 41).
My inspiration from Mick is infinite
Should do How to sound like jim root on a budget
That. Opening. Was. Dope.
Hey thanks so much!
man it's ass that you are getting demonetized for playing riffs from your favourite band, i mean I kinda get their point but that sucks dude :/
Anyways great Video as usual \m/
It's amazing how you didn't play any of their riffs but still can be kinda recognizable.
Sick riffs and set up and also sick battalion shirt!
Marshall DSL40 + Ibanez GIO GRG20x and a Set of Malagoli Zonda+777 Pickups (Brazilian manufactured) does the job for me
If the virus wasn't around I would let you borrow my Mick Thomson Signature Rivera Head and Cab with the Mick Thomson BC RICH Signature Warlock. I wont be able to ship because it would be too expensive but I would be willing to drive it down to you. Love your videos. Stay Metal
Dude do you have an Instagram, or perhaps an email haha. I love yo stay in touch with you. Thank you for reaching out!
@@xanderraymondcharles yes of course. heberertaguirre@yahoo.com
I also have a Facebook

Love from Chicago
Jesus, that's generous of you.
Only for a brother that loves the same music as I do and can show the love and respect to everyone who believes in playing guitar. He and I have a lot in common. We both love Jim Root and Mick Thomson. Slipknot in general. The only difference is that I dont play a lot of metal so Ray would be the best person for this. Stay Metal from Chicago
Here's my gear
300 dollar Ibanez gem
150 dollar Marhall amp
I don't quite sound like slipknot, but It's close enough.
Got this the day it released and my favorite amp sim still🤘🎸🤘 I do love the Will Putney amp sim also.. The Omega HQ is around the corner from me so i may end up with the Amp head this year🙏
Sick! So how is it that other UA-cam channels can take riffs or whole songs but they can't let you do a riff here and there in order to promote a band they represent 🤔
I’m sure some get copyright strikes too. But maybe because I do a lot of Slipknot content my channel is on their radar? I’m not sure tbh
@@xanderraymondcharles with how far we have come with DAW capabilities and platforms like Spotify, iTunes, Google play, etc. What need is there for a record company these days when someone could just use DistroKid?
Love the content Ray. Don't forget you need the PC audio interface :)
Don't forget to bounce the string off that bridge pickup haha. Sic vid bro!
Bro that v is sick! 🤘🏻💀🤘🏻
Thanks brother!
Hi Ray ! What's up ? Yesterday I follow the stream ! Simply awesome ! I asked 'U about Black out pickups by Seymour Duncan and 'U answered Condition One is active pickups ! Roger that ! I covered that with new JR Emg set ! Can 'U rec a vid on JR without bust the bank? I got Amplitube Max plug-in with a complete Orange Collection ! How to set Rockverb 50 mk2 ? I need this strike ! Thx bro ! 🎸 \m/
3:54....4:20 that sounds pretty (SIC) right?” I got it bro hahaahahahahaahaahahaah I’m pretty sure copyright hated that
good stuff brotha!
i unironically like to play with these tones (dry and almost baseless) in Eb
My favourite guitarist! Hmmm dimebag darrell, mark morton and marty friedman, i can say
Bullshit in my opinion that a riff, not even in a mix mind you, will get your money ripped out of your hands. It's not like your stealing the song. Respect to you for keeping your cool man 🤘
Awesome thanks🤘
3:53 (slic)
4:02 eeyou
Hey man, im a big fan so i thought id be abit constructive, is it really on a budget? What if someone whos wanting to sound like mick doesnt have a laptop, so they cant access these plug ins, how much do they cost? What about cost for speakers for the monitors? Do you need an interface etc. Im sure they cost a fair bit
A run down of cost and what you used maybe abit helpful as not everyone has access to this stuff and it could cost the same as a small practice amp and some pedals? (Ive never used plugins ever nor do i understand the following they have ive always been guitar amps and pedals guy for years thats why i ask)
If a company came to me and said build your dream guitar, it'd end up costing like 3 grand if I had a blank check lol what guitarist could resist 😅
Micks the reason I play a Jackson
Just quickly, what were the riffs that you played in this video? Cheers :)
Well if you can't play certain riffs you can play some of that new heavy stuff you mentioned ;)
Maybe I have been sprinkling it in there and you just don’t know it yet 🤔😏😏
Is that a pic with you otis and spaulding on the back wall ?
Pls how to sound like Jim root video
yo man! great vid. any way you can do a vid on how to use these plug ins and set this up?
I'd say your Father is blown away by what his son has accomplished musically with his life. He's up there tapping Angel's on the shoulder, sayin" "That's my son!"
I LOVE YOU!!! ❤️💕❤️❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕😍😍😍
Hey Ray! I’m not sure if you’ve received your Jim Root jazzmaster but when you do, do you plan on making a demo/review of it? Thanks
Well since you can't play riffs anymore ( which freaking sucks) you can play the Luna muerta stuff now :). Loving the tones btw
Yup Luna Muerta and a new band you haven’t heard yet ;)
@@xanderraymondcharles lol pluck away hell shows us how to play your stuff... I haven't forgotten about paying for a class *wink* just waiting on getting paid 🤣
Totally off topic, but I want that new Jim Root White Jazzmaster, but I'm broke as hell😂😂😂
Copyright this days is abusive
Now he using Mesa Boogie John Petrucci Singnature Amp in Livesituation
No he’s not he’s using the obsidian. Listen to the interview
How to sound like Jim root on budget
What model reference speakers are those? I’m shoppin!
Just curious, i bought a distortion plus pedal, i have an epiphone and got a 10 watt marshall guitar. I havent played 12 years, i just bought this gear few days ago, can i achieve that sound with my gear or do i neeed different pedal? Can my yellow distortion + create that sound or not ?
I was in Charlie 1-19 battery during basic too. What year you go?
Hmm I wonder if I can leave my vht pitbull with my 412 home an just use my PC and my speakers for banf practice... I'm sure my drummer will hit a little softer..
How about jim root guitar sound? His guitar absolutely amazing too
What happened to your Mick Thomson soloist? Besides I the point of this video but I didn’t see it in your collection video. Did you not get along with it?
Yeah just didn’t like it
Stay Metal Ray Gotcha. I’m curious was it the neck? I remember you not loving the gloss. Just curious cause I love mine
no hay algun irs para una pedalera multiefectos
you shouldve played SIC backwards, instead of 01010101, do 10101010. you think they can get you on that?
That Dean looks great. USA model?
Nah South Korea
Hey man...What pickups can you recommend for a guy looking to get a metal sound out of a Les Paul?
emg
81 bridge and 85 neck
@@dresixx92102 Ahhhh was always conflicted on them due to their bad rep in the early 2000s when people used to call them flat sounding and such...Thanks man.👍🏾
ThatguyReiji u cant go wrong with Black winter pickups.
@@thatguyreiji1045 they also have the h4 and h4a which are the 81 and 85 but are passive
So after the £90 plug in and laptop monitor interface and speakers how much we looking at budget wise?😂🤘🏼
Probs 3000 including the guitar as well
Could you get a similar tone from the willy putney suite?
Want you in my band🧐🧐👏👏🥁🥁🇨🇦🇨🇦
Haha I’m open to it
Great video, as always Ray! interestingly the actual settings of Mick differ quite a bit from the preset Neural DSP made up. Here's a rig rundown where you can see the settings of his amp (Obsidian):
ua-cam.com/video/FUQhw4-MOkA/v-deo.html
Keep it up and all the best from northern germany, dude! \m/
🔥
I love Jim and mick but for some reason I’m not a big fan of their tone, it sounds good mixed but alone it doesn’t really do it for me
Yeaaaa boiiii
when you play a video in slipknot style you started to play eeyore for a second lol curious if you got demonitised for it lol
Any advice on how to PLAY like Mick on the budget???)))
I've got a fender champion as amp, what can I do xd
This copywriting is getting out of hand. If I upload a cover to Facebook they kill the audio even when it's just a video and I'm not making money from it. If it's not for financial gain and the artist is credited it's not copyright infringement!
Boss Katana mkii is the easiest way for a all in one box.
I disagree. This plugin will get you to micks tone
@@xanderraymondcharles Absolutely.
I just like my Katana, because I dont have the desktop and all the boxes and input stuff. $350 new amp and a $50 used laptop and I can sound like anything(some dialing required)
demonetizing for riffs????....guess im not paying for anything from roadrunner for a decade
Or get an amp simulator
Huh
Tone sounded pretty spot on. I can’t play slipknot proceeds to destroy eeyore
God, Mick's guitar tone is sexy asf. This vid is my ASMR
Always
