My question is, what is the point of marriage then if one can leave it just like that, I thought "till death us do part" meant something?
Given that most (63%) of the divorces are initiated by women in the UK and in the US among college educated women this number jumps to 90%, what are the incentives for men to marry?
I know some say tax breaks but it's far cheaper for the man to share or even live on his own especially with remote working.
No wonder many of my unmarried friends here in the UK say they'll love and have children but will never get married.
I got married at 21 and been married for 12 years now and thank God my marriage doesn't follow these rules lol.

Imagine being stuck in a marriage that you can't get out of after it's got so bad, it has gone past the point of being fixable. Then you're doomed to be in a toxic relationship for the rest of your life. No thanks.

@55maltesers why get married in the first place then? Divorce rate is around 55% here in the UK, why should anyone get married here if they have 55% of failing and have potential of ruining your life especially if children and money are involved.

And as for marriage, there is simply nothing in it for the average man. BTW, I'm not saying ALL marriages are bad, or fail. That would obviously be very silly, and also factually incorrect. Question please. Can a male apply for a no fault divorce? I only ask as some commentators claim this law is more geared towards women rather than equality for both parties overall. Granted I understand where the division of assets or property comes into effect it can go either way. But I know of some men whom probably want a divorce without the wife contesting it too.

I'm confused, the other person can't contest it, so in other words, if one partner wants to get divorced you are getting divorced? It doesn't require agreement from both parties? You file it on the government website and it's happening whether they like it or not? Is that right?
Because that sounds sensible to me, I really don't like the idea that someone else can just say "Nope, you're stuck with me, how you feel about it is irrelevant". Obviously it's different when there are children involved, but marriage should be 'we stay together so long as we're BOTH better off together than apart'.

@Rhys Hoffman absolutely I understand you completely. In my case it was an abusive situation that actually involved everyone around me at the time. I made the move to ‘his’ part of the country and therefore I was ‘welcomed with open arms’ by his parents and our landlord who was a family friend that allowed us to live in their ‘spare’ house for very low mates rates rent. Which was lovely at first but then I very politely and non aggressively mention that we had mould and also later I mentioned again very politely that the boiler leaks she turned on me and hated me and blamed the mould on my cats breath. My husband didn’t stand up for me and I wasn’t allowed to use the heating so my husband was out all day every day exploring or job hunting and I had to sit shivering in a cold damp and mouldy house…. I became more and more unwell and everything was now my fault and his parents were so embarrassing as well. It took me 6 months to decide to leave him. I’m dealing with ptsd now. I was abused every way other than physically. It’s messed me up big time.

What are the laws in the UK with regards to unmarried couples ? This seems like the last resort for men in the West nowadays, except staying single. I'm Canadian and it seems like men are doomed no matter what. Married ? You give her 50% or more of your assets ! Not married but living together ? 50% of your assets ! Been in a weirdly informal open relationship wither her ? 50% of your assets ! Ordered a bicmac from her while she was working at McDonalds ? 50% of your assets ! Crossed her on the street one time in 2004 ? 50% of your assets ! Lol, I'm joking but there's truth to it. It seems like the second a man gets somewhat commited to a woman he's condemned to finishing his days living in a tiny studio in the shady part of town while his lady buys Gucci bags with his money.

Hi Emily. I'm a family law assistant and as I understand it, you would still need a financial order known as a consent order which outlines how you will split the matrimonial assets upon divorce. By recording the division of assets in a consent order you prevent either party from being able to make a claim against the other party's assets in the future. This is still the same as the old system as finances are dealt with somewhat separately to the divorce proceedings themselves

If we have a child and she decides that she doesn't want to see me anymore, am I entitled to anything. She owns the house and it's all paid for by her and she is nearly mortgage free. She earns 4 times the amount that I do. Basically I'm just worried that she might become hard to live with if years to come, and she might just kick me out. Would I be entitled to anything if I've had a child with her? I'm guessing not. I hope someone who knows the answer to this can help. Thank you

@@alvarezvanessa2248 hi sorry it’s taken a long time to reply Well my husband walked out on me in September 2020 He has been living next door to me with my daughter in that time twice he has put in to divorce me and twice stopped mainly because he was still sleeping with me on and off at the time I did and hoped we would get back together but I get it now he was just using me for the obvious Now he has another woman in his life yet we are still married so I guess the next step is divorce this time from me but as I am on benefits I can only get the divorce free from citizens advice when he left he took every pound we had and yet we both built up his bussiness together now I find myself in a situation where I cannot afford I think it’s called the litigation part any advice you can offer would be most appreciated I’m now 60 and don’t know where or who else to turn to regards Christine

Thank you *Uncoverlinks_Online* for helping me out with the issues I got with my account which say ( I violated the terms & conditions) . I’m sure it was worth it all including the stressful hours and late nights. There is no doubt that you are the most deserving of all out here. I can't afford to lose my account because all my hard works had been on it. Thanks To You Brandon
