SpongeBob doesn’t “make kids dumb”, at least Steven Hillenburgs canon to when the show should’ve ended (season 4) The episodes are funny and some marine biology humor is thrown every once in a while. It also occasionally teaches people lessons but isn’t so in your face about it like other kid shows. While new SpongeBob can’t quite back my claim I would like to argue that old SpongeBob can.

For all its toxicity, I feel like this show was actually good at depicting what the world might look like for a 4-year-old. The stairs in this scene are depicted as big, and the depiction of Caillou's imagination of climbing them is actually wholesome. The the faded watercolor background depict how new and fresh the world looks for someone so young, the sand that Caillou plays with is very wholesome in texture, and the books he reads with large pictures on the covers seem pleasing to the eyes of a four year old.
Maybe it's just because I grew up with this show that I just see potential in it. But it was still executed very poorly.
