  • In this video, Pierre is doing a full Shilton CR Review for the CR range of fly reels by Shilton.
Pierre has been using his Shilton CR Reels for over 5 years and fishes them extensively. If you've seen any of the reviews for fly rods he's done on this channel, you'll notice that he normally kits out the rod with a Shilton.

These are his favorite reels and we've had a lot of requests to have these reels featured on the channel, so I hope you guys enjoy!

I felt changing spools a bit difficult...most decent reels now come with the pop off spool mechanism

Are you talking about the CR series or die SL and SR series. Both these (the SL and SR) are the saltwater reels with cork drag mechanisms. To change the spools on these might be "difficult". However, the CR series of freshwater reels simply pops off on the push of a button.

*Its a cork drag not carbon fibre. It’s the one thing that I feel Shilton have got wrong. Every single other high end fly reel in the market ie Abel, Ross, Nautilus all use Carbon Fibre drags..why Shilton still persist with cork is beyond me

@@antjar8545 Hi, I think you might confuse the CR range with the SR or SL. The CR range has a stacked disc drag and the reel is designed to be used on freshwater. Regarding whether Shilton has got it wrong or not, that is debatable. We should organize a tug of war and a durability test between Shilton cork reels and other reels.

@@pierrejoubert394 interesting I’ve looked at their schematics and see that you’re right. Maybe it’s time to rethink and pull the trigger then 👍🏻

@@antjar8545 no problem man, glad i could help. Remember that the seal is not saltwater ready and they're mostly designed for freshwater use.
What kind of fishing will you be doing with the reel?
