Watching from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. A small but vibrant percentage of our population is of Chinese descent from Chinese indentured laborers who came after slavery ended here and from various subsequent waves of immigrants. We've had a Governor General, Prime Minister, President, various Government ministers and members of Parliament and major figures in all spheres of Chinese or mixed Chinese descent. Chinese food is part of our national palate.

I beg to differ, I have a Chinese friend with a wife and daughter. They come to my house and cook for me and it is of course wonderful. When it is my turn to be host I take them to a local pub/restaurant and they love it.

It was a pretty standard process for foreigners to register at local police station if they intend to work, study, or live in China for an extended peirod. Trust me, police in China is very different from police in the U.S.
Crime is out of control in the cities (where you are from). The police need to get tougher. Hello, from the Caribbean. "One love" etc etc

I just subscribed. I find many people, either UA-camrs, or just appearing in a vid have travelled far from their homes in some leap of faith to find their lives in foreign land really inspiring. I was sure the police just wanted to keep track of some foreigners that have permanent residence in China. I know most Chinese people are very understanding. Anyway, I don't think my own experience in China is similar to yours because I usually go their only for very short period of time for vacation or work. Good luck to you. I have heard mixed experiences when it comes to the police station. If you check in once a year, they tend to leave you alone. If you avoid them or forget to check in, they will call or even come looking. Although I have had friends called and visisted, in the 13 years I have been here I have never had that experience! Maybe the police just like my broken Mandarin! You are a friendly guy with great Mandarin, I am sure the police won't give you a second glance!
Most of which they are nice to foreigners who abide by the law.

I visited China a number of years ago. Around 15 years ago. Beijing twice and Xian once. I enjoyed it very much.
There are prejudice people all over the world. I’m a Caucasian American male. I got stared at by locals in China at times.
I don’t think it’s prejudiced as much as curiosity. I noticed they will stare at something not in the norm to them.
People with black skin are not very common there to them. So that is probably why the looks are more frequent. But I believe it’s more curiosity than prejudice. But I realize it probably can get annoying at times.
We get stared at but we get used to it. Let’s say we live with it coz it’s part of the journey. 😀
white people stare too and sometimes they do worse things than just stare.

It's not just in China that this kind of racism happens. It's all over the world. Chinese people experience this type of racism as well but those do practice racism most probably have never been discriminated against before so they don't know the feeling at all.
