Great job Matt. Often times our Traveling Team would argue about whom should cover 3rd! Our coach would say LF, but I really like the idea of the P covering 3rd base. Often times with a speedy runner on first, they can make it clear to 3rd base safe after a throw to 1st to get the bunter. Great video and thanks for sharing!

Great video. However. it gets a little more interesting when it's 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. Can you do a video on that?

@@antonellisoftball is this bunt defense the real way all colleges do this ? what would the reason be for a 1st baseman staying put all the time ?

Runner advanced to 3rd on our girls this weekend b/c it was a short bunt & 3rd had to throw to 1st. No one covered 3rd. I had no answer to correct the girls either. It was 14U so the runner could easily beat Left Fielder. Pitcher was stuck lunging at the ball with the 3rd baseman. I realize now that would happen even in college. Most 14-18U catchers or Left Field can't cover that distance to 3rd on a shallow bunt that draws the pitcher. So unless your catcher is a stud, teaching a pitcher to concede shallow bunts & turning to 3 is the defense.
It's a perfect example of why fastpitch is so technical

With a runner on 1B, we like to keep 1B home and have the pitcher cover more area. 2B goes to 2, SS goes to 3, 3B crashes.

If a bunt is anticipated, and the corners are in, is there a reason why once the bunt hits the ground the left fielder can't come in, obviously with just a runner on first? If there's a runner on second, that's a horse of a different color.

Third base is wide open if the ball is bunted to pitcher and she bobbles and has to throw to first. That runner going to 2nd can just head to third. It looks to me like it takes LF too long to get over and cover. Just my opinion.

Would be better if first baseman didn't crash.
