It was an absolute pleasure to guide you through some of the very best of our Algarve!! Thank you everyone for your kind comments. Look forward to seeing you on the road soon!
It's actually al-Gharb. You passed by Pedras d'El Rei means the stones of the king. This is the edge of the roman city of Balsa abandoned a long time ago. When they built the touristic complex they used dynamite to blow up the "stones" which where actually roman ruins. From there all the way to Torre d'Aires you have only ruins of Balsa. They are now (finally) being studied by Archaeologists. When I lived in Portugal it was completely forgotten so I started an awareness campaign on Facebook which led it to finally being protected and studied starting in 2015 if I'm not mistaken. :)
@@javierviana96 I'm Portuguese as well and native from the Algarve. Also I'm an Archaeologist and studied in dept the Muslim presence in the region as well as a number of words, stories and customs of muslim origin still present in the traditions of the region.
Awesome ride, really enjoyed it all! The architecture, the history, The Baltazar. Thanks for the language lesson, Fiona. The Al Garbe, nice to know! Thanks, Miguel. Keep them coming... :)
Love your videos Miguel. This one in particular because it brings back memories of our tour in 2015. Nice to see Baltazar is still doing well. Yes, he bites, I had a bruise on my left bicep for a few days.
Apareceu-me nas recomendações. Era exatamente o que me apetecia ver. Que férias de sonho. A bicicleta e a vontade já tenho, só falta mesmo alguém para alinhar. 🤣
Fantastic video, i have cycled a few times on the algarve visiting some of the places in this video (road bike), your video gave a more indepth look to some of the villages i love, especially Monchique and silves, thinking about taking the gravel bike next and if so will contact echappee, once again Brilliant!!!
Well, that was quite a treat on this grey and gloomy morning! 😊 Was that a Cube gravel bike you got yourself? I was looking at those, too, specifically because of their rack option plus affordable price ranges. 😂 In the end I got impatient searching for a small frame though and when I stumbled upon a used road bike close by I went for that instead so tarmac instead of gravel it is.
I have a Cube hybrid travel bike. It has an integrated rack, mudguard and lighting which I am not keen on. Much prefer them to be separate. Apart from that the bike is ok. The frames are good though, strong and stiff, although give a surprisingly compliant ride.
A place I would love to cycle in , beautiful and the hotels are more than a litt5le reasonable. I notice your panniers because they look almost like my Rhino Walk panniers I ordered a few years ago from Ali Express, love them, waterproof too. Wish I had those when I was a messenger 35 years ago! They get mad when things get wet, yet call for a bike messenger to save money. Nice ride, thanks for shearing the video. Thank your riding companion should you see her again, just they kind of person you want to meet when traveling and cycling!
Nice video. I was in Algarve 6 years ago, based in Armacao de Pera, and rode (3 days) with the bike trough some places you showed here (Monchique was a nice hilly ride! I also saw that awesome bike-bar Germano...). I wish to get back there soon. Thanks for sharing this video!
00:05 Sines não é no Algarve! Ah, então é Messines... Caramba, o Algarve está cheio de bifes e camones! Foste dum lado ao outro do Algarve? Mas que moço marafado! 😁
Thanks again for a lovely ride through beautiful Portagal, Miguel! Appreciated meeting Fiona; she seems to be a lovely guide and companion. Exploring "The West" was wonderful! Rivers, mountains, beaches, citrus orchards, olive groves, waterfalls and much interesting history and architecture! Very enjoyable!
What a great news!!! Miguel is back!!!! I hope you are recovered. Your videos are awesome!!!!!! The places, the photography, the history leasons that's including... Mmmmm i wish one day visit those lands and share a beers with you after a good take for a ride 😜 (i hope you understand my poor English, but is better than my Portuguese, 🤦🏻). Welcome Miguel!!! (one question!!! You are history teacher?? Or something similar!?? It is a good idea to teach, to explain the history or geography to the children I thing).
Extremely enjoyable video, Miguel...as always. I have a request. Some time, would you comment on the way you speak Portuguese? I'm still in the earliest stage of learning the language, but I've noticed that you have a particular way of speaking that I haven't heard in other Portuguese. I know it's very personal and it's not your usual topic, but I'm so curious that I can't help asking. And I'll still be a fan if you decline to answer. :)
I am not Miguel, but I think I can answer you. Miguel speak Portuguese from Portugal, there is a difference in pronunciacion(accent too) from Portuguese from Portugal and from Brazil. Some words have diferent meanings too, I think is like American English and British English. By the way I am from Brazil (:

AHAHAH
Better to bring a road or a gravel bike in the Algarve?
It depends of what you want to do. I prefer gravel because is more versatile and I don't care about speed.
Do you recommend road or gravel bikes in this region - I will be visiting Albufeira and am leaning towards my gravel bike with 35 mm tires
Gravel gives you more options but there are also plenty of roads for a roadie.
Qual foi a bicicleta de gravel que compraste?
