I learned something new! I had no idea that this was a thing. Now I know what my neighbors are doing with all those fire pit fires. 😄 Thanks for sharing this. I love those blues. That's really neat how it brought out that banding, too. Pretty Rock Syndrome for the win! 😁
So to clarify, the ONLY thing achieved from this is more color, right?? I’d advise against what you did but atleast you planned for the explosion Lol 😂👍
Yes. The only thing "achieved" was more color. 🙂 As an aside, I satisfied my curiosity and learned about heat treating flint. Yes, the flint could have shattered. I was wondering if anyone was going to call me out on that, and I appreciate the friendly way you did it. If I was a flintknapper (flint nibbler) I would hope to have produced a flint that would be finer for the knapping through the heat treating process. I have a friend who makes stone points for me that I use for deer hunting. I am wondering if I have a suitable piece to send him to make a point for me. That would be a fun video project for the future. I also got rid of a lot of scraps of wood that I didn't want. Thanks for your comment.
That turned out gorgeous! I didn't realize how many colors were in flint!! So cool!
I was amazed as well, especially since I just used a fire in the back yard.
I never heard of this process before. This is very interesting and cool to see ! Thanks for sharing😊
I wasn't sure my attempt would even work. Others who heat treat use turkey roasters or other ovens.
