I'm keep finding uncovered songs by Korn and each one of the is unique 🙂. It feels Luke digging a mine.
@Doom Guy I feel like you could say that for every track on Neidermeyer’s Mind. They were all raw.
think about the year this was done. everyone was trying to be nirvana or pearl jam. Korn were just so damn original from the get go. long live korn!!!!
Black metal bands of the era were not trying to be Nirvana or Pearl jam, doom metal bands of the era were not trying to be Nirvana or Pearl jam (more like Nirvana or Pearl jam were trying to be doom metal bands mixed with punk) gothic metal bands of the era were not trying to be Nirvana or Pearl jam so you are very wrong when you say everyone at the time was trying to be Nirvana or Pearl jam. Only the mainstream were trying to be Nirvana or Pearl jam and no one with any brain cells cares about what the mainstream are doing.
@W W do u know what nirvana sounds like??
To whoever the dude who created the first 7-string guitar was: when munky bought his first one all he could think is “how do I drop it lower now?” and took his tuning as low as he could before it was to retuned to play.. that’s not even the crazy part though. It’s how him and head almost gave up and we’re leaving a show when SexArt came in and the heard and saw John Davis (keyboards/vocals) and were reinspired.. but it gets even better. They didn’t know him.. but fieldy did! Sounds almost unreal but fieldy and Johns dads were band mates together in a country-western band and fieldy and John had grown up together. This band and this group of guys was meant to meet and it was delicate. The second David left Korn ceased to exist in my eyes. I was with him.. they were trying to recreate the first two albums and he was fed up. I was too. I still love and respect all of them though. They stood outside the box and changed music. They all have families now they gotta support so I’m glad they still tour and are able to make a living. I’ll only ever listen to the first two albums though and it’s because those were game changers. Everything beyond was like Korn satire..
@Kevin Cormier how were they not original? Who else sounded like them?
@Rickey Ryan more like Helmet, Parliament and Faith No More.
Can really hear the grunge influence in this. So awesome to realise how they evolved and developed their own style but at the same time you can really hear the influence of the early 90's. Awesome.
They are big Alice In Chains fans
Definitely some Fear Factory, Biohazard, Godflesh influences as well.
@James Bond not really
Personally I wish they kept with the post grunge influence, especially the vocals
i've recently gotten into these demo tapes and love the rough shittyness of them.a far cry from the super polished album releases that seem so unattainable, especially if you're thinking of recording a band yourself at some point
Honestly I think the _Predictable_ breakdown sounds cooler in this version, and Blind... Holy shit, why didn't they use this version in the actual album? I like that really long intro but in this version the riffs are even better and I like that it's a longer song overall.
@thecopobtuse not that I disbelieved you but I just looked it all up and you're 100% correct.
Probably got chopped down for radio
I see everyone saying how much better this version is, but if you remove your bias for the self-titled version then this sounds kinda cheesy. It *does* sound like Metallica and therefore I don't think it would have had the same impact.Ross Robinson had a great deal of influence on these guys.Clearly the talent was there, but he guided them on the path that ended up being the strongest. And btw that muttering sounds dumb.
@thecopobtuse Also its not the sexart version cause its missing some memorable verses from the song like “Everyone seems so blind”.
I must say I love this version of Predictable
@Denis N I can hear AiC and Metallica influence. Of course, those guys were Korns heros at this point so it would be make sense.
@Esteban No need to insult, my friend. Dude has an opinion. As do you. Disagree and move on.
It's the snare tone and guitar tone that sell this version 10 times better for me. Also Johnathan's weird shakey highs make it even better
@Steenbergh yeah sorry... This sounds nothing like Metallica
Man the chorus to Predictable is like 10 years ahead of their time
@facespaz Its so *predictable*
It's almost like music trends are "Predictable" ;)
It's like they predicted it.
Still remember the 1st time I heard this. I was 11 years old & my brother (huge Danzig fan) came home after the Danzig 4 tour with Marilyn Manson & Korn (who was the opener of that show). This tape changed everything for me. Korn has been my favorite band ever since. Can't wait until May 9th 2018- Finally get to meet JD after all these years. #1 spot on my bucket list- Check.
@Symbolic 🤣 Exactly!
@Matt Bennett ROFLMAO, just progressively making things worse every few years, but the sentence remains the same with the exception of the year modifier hahahaha.
@Symbolic 😆 Hopefully not. I need a fresh start on that. But if he does remember me, when we go to take the picture I'm gonna put my hand in his back pocket and say "...thank you for the last 28yrs...", Because at that point, it'd just be who I am now. Creepy picture guy who can only say 1 sentence.
@Matt Bennett That's fucking hilarious hahaha. At least now he might not forget you when you meet him again lmao.
@rlylolno Thank you! 🤘
I really wish This Broken Soul had been on their debut album. Excellent song.
@Idé og Design Prokol which one?
They got the song on one of their albums tho
No shit! I absolutely don't understand this either.
Jason Wakefield its one of my favorite songs ever, I dont understand how it didn't make the album amd its a shame it didn't
Predictable | 0:00Blind | 4:27Daddy | 9:21Alive | 13:49This Broken Soul | 17:50Layla | 22:54
This broken soul and layla are very VERY VERY good
My favorite is this broken soul👌🏾
For this to be 1993 when counting crows, smashing pumpkins, and soul asylum were on radio non stop is amazing. Korn was ahead of the time and deserves more credit. They should be in the Rock n roll hall of fame.
I love this shit. It's so raw. They should re-release this album with how they sound now.
The redone Alive sounds terrible.
They re-did Alive on Take A Look In The Mirror
that is right.
Soul of a New Machine is raw also and it came out in 92
At 1:52 when I was a kid, those guitars opend my mind in more ways you can belive. Still gives me chills.
yeah that part has always been so fucking good. the cymbal bashing and the drums complete the guitars so well there
Holy shit..this version of Blind? Fucking great! I thought Predictable was rad, but then Blind? Dude... Korn needs to do this version again.
lucheloco420 no they do not lol
A booklet inside with lyrics no less! Korn never releases lyrics with their music so that is indeed rare. Whomever out there who has this cassette, hold onto it!
@MrParkerman6 Yeah, okay. So 95% of the time they don't. Why be a prick about it? 🤣
I had the first run of follow the leader. It had lyrics
I imagine everybody back in the day listening to this for the first time and having their mind blown away
That was funny af.
Why? It's just music, not Kurt Cobain's shotgun.
Damn, that sound. I miss old Korn :( or young, however you want to look at it.
@GoKllyoslf x Water is wet.
Ross Robinson was a mastermind in the 90's for the nu metal bands.
Ross Robinson = The Godfather of Nu-Metal!
Korn is the best band this world has ever seen long live these gods of metal
The long lost bible of Nu Metal. This shot started it all. Respect!
deftones had a demo out in 1992
@insert name here oh no doubt about that.
@Brent Walker i believe most of those demos were recorded in 1992
@insert name here Korn's demo released a month before Deftones demo. October 17th, 1993. Deftones was November 30th, 1993.
esta versión de Blind es excelente!!!!....Korn siempre en mi corazón
I will say, Daddy feels alot less dark here than it does on the studio version.
damn sounds incredible, by the way David shared this video on his fb profile, he still miss korn
I'd like to see a one time reunion mini tour with David back for like 5 or 6 shows, but yeah he's just shit on them too often n too recent, I don't see that happening. Plus at this point Ray has been with them for a longer tenure than David was and he's part of the family now and does a great job.... So Rays career with Korn is secured
@leeccdoo I can tell you were a kid when you wrote these comments lmao.
@Satan him and head were both in contact during their leave
Probably not gonna happen now.
@Danny H the Grammys are rigged nowadays so it really doesnt matterKorn arent the same as they used to be, I mean Ray is a great drummer, no doubt about that, but their recent albums havent been as good as their old albums with David
I like the old version of Predictable more than the version on Self Titled. The old version of Blind was badass! Almost sounds like a Kill 'Em All song!
Jon "the sheep" Davis.
Daddy just sounds..... Different yet more fucked up because hearing him crying while yelling but it's not his true story
Damn right!!!!!. It's too raw and too f**king awesome for a demo. It's too raw that even the re-recorded songs didn't match to its demo.
it starts with AARRRREEEEE YYYYYOOOUUUU RRREEEEAAADDDYY on blind
In a world where everything feels like it's crumbling to ash, Korn gives me a reason to stay alive and hope for the better. \m/ I yearn to see these guys in person one day and experience what life has to offer.
Wow! This is considered classic rock now!
@T I gladly not, classic rock is ass
No this will never be called classic rock
No not 30 years..
First time giving Korn a go, pretty good.
damn, this guy doesnt fuck around, lol. I mean I stay faithful to the first four/ 3/2 of any band but the demos are really special.
Well you picked the best place to start, because this demo contains the best work they have ever done.
Google Sucks Their self titled album and issues are some of their best work.
I recommend Issues, my favorite album.
Is it just me, or does the playful laughing kinda make this version of Daddy alittle more sinister than the studio version? Not to take anything away from the latter; Daddy from their self titled is easily one of the most unsettling and psychologically distraught songs I think I've ever heard, but that playful laughter here just made it even more... sadistic and belittling, in a sense. Just pure downright savagery.
I just find it a little odd that he talks about his Dad touching him, even though it was a family friend.
@El Tio Jaime why don't I like it?
I think the studio version is more emotional and cathartic. The demo version was more a bit more demented but not necessarily darker IMO
I personally like this version of daddy more, although I don't like the song that much anyway
La idea y el demo de Alive, estába desde 1993 y no se publicó si no hasta 10 años después en 2003 en el Take A Look In The Mirror 🤘🏼😎
This version of blind is better then the original
different yes, not bad yes, better is stretch
Alive is such a sick song, fucking love this version
@SK yes it is listen to need to
@Samuel Gerend Uhhhh, no?
Alive in this demo is an early version of Need To from self titled
@Big Bird PH thats a different song
THIS! Far more enjoyable than the version that made it to TALITM!
"This Broken Soul" epitomizes old school KoRn...
How good is This Broken Soul?! Never heard this one before!
Oh yea I remember the aggression this stuff let me get out when I was a lil boy ...korn is awesome man...all the era's of them r great for different vibes but the first 4 albums r absolute nostalgia to me so this demo tape fuckin rips THANKS FOR POSTING
Copped a shirt with this album cover on it at a flea market for like 10 bucks
I got it from hot topic when I was like 10. Kids at my dads trailer park traded me Korns first album for a pocket knife I had. I was amazed.. loved it. Begged my grandma to take me to the mall to find anything I could from them. They only had self titled at The Warehouse but the chick laughed at me and asked if I really liked them. I said yes so she took me seriously then I guess lol and told me to come back in a couple months cause they had a new album coming out. I did, but not before trying hot topic. Funny enough the girl at the register was like “what’s Korn?” As she rung us up. My grandma said “awful stuff with screaming” and we awkwardly left. I wore that shirt for like two years strait then one day it disappeared. I think it was my grandma but whatever. She then got me the blue one that had the three white stripes around the left sleeve.. those were rare in that era.
What does the tag say? I wonder if it’s legit
The 1st KORN shirt I bought had the rag doll on barbed wire (this exact picture) & within a year every other kid had the same shirt at school...
If you decide to auction it down the road, you can prolly fetch thousands of bucks for it!
Love this demo a lot! It's like hearing this some of this stuff again for the first time. Big question tho: How the hell did the "Pradictable"(sic) typo not get caught sooner? 🤣
MUY BUENOOOO MAESTROS, COMO SIEMPRE...
Lo mejor de Korn con diferencia.
Sounds like Korn mixed with Alice In Chains.
But this is korn and korn was afterwards 😂
@bigbromiki1 hell yeah, Facelift tone without a doubt!
My thoughts exactly 👌
@Derek Sendrak maybe because they weren't?
The bass introduction for the Alive demo reminds me a lot of the bass intro for Would? That’s kinda peculiar to me because that thought never occurred to me listening to album version of Alive, but hearing the demo for the song, it immediately reminded me of the intro for Would? I’m not sure why though because it’s not like it’s played any differently on the album version than it did on the demo version, and the tone sounds pretty much the same on both versions too. Maybe something about the lower sound quality makes me hear Would? In Alive’s intro. 🤷🤔
Layla and This Broken Soul are actually really cool.Layla has some Ball Tongue during the verses and it even has the same exact ending as Ass Itch. Even the way JD is breathing in exhaustion after the music stops is just like Ass Itch. How interesting.
yea, they used the ending of layla for the song ass itch and they used the bridge of layla for the song lost
Daddy sounds like nightmares. I love it but I’m scared at the same time.
MrParkerman6 being toxic for no damn reason smh
omg espectacular korn una de mis bandas favoritas que fuerza como para avasallar a los perdedores
Where it all started... Goddamn, I miss the old days...
Unless you are atleast 40 it's highly unlikely you know korn started as SEX ART. look up the live shows from 93 it's only 4 on YT
@TheMadSergeant :'(I'd kill for this
@TheMadSergeant Yeah, i completely agree with you. But still none of those other bands started in '93 either :D
@TheMadSergeant The other bands they listed didn't debut in '93 either? But Tools first Full Album(Undertow) was released in '93
Yeah man. I just wish they stuck with Ross Robinsons guidance.
I love this but the original will always be one of the most significant events of my life. I think this is the time when the music was heavy but did not match Jonathan vocals and deep ness. Once the band went lower it created genius or am I high as fuck.
wow I actually like the demo version because its recorded straight from live performing
I like how they have predictable as their first song as it was the song that actually got me into korn
lol same bro
Amazing quality for a tape. I think these demos sound better as the final tracks. Not quality wise just structure wise.
0:00 Predictable4:27 Blind9:21 Daddy13:49 Alive17:50 This Broken Soul22:54 Layla
you can tell he has two personalities on daddy. jd Fucked up mind has brought the world some good shit.
@MrParkerman6 some of the lyrics that ended up on Daddy were used in his prior band, Sexart though.
He didn't write the original lyrics to Daddy, the line lyrics was some bullshit Jon thought about his Step-Mom on the spot, wrote them in one sitting.
Incredible! I love Ross Robinson first album and Korn lll. Is crazy to keep relistening and see how they took out unnecessary chords and what not and added a harder version of each song. I love his style and how he brings out more and pushes JD Fucking love these guys so much since day 1. Just never gets old.
Masterpiece, thanks to upload this 🖤
Blind is a lot more riff heavy than the self titled one, FUK YEAH BOI!
They definitely improved it with the debut album though
I'm digging this version of Predictable more than the studio.
Thumbs up for Layla! So underrated song
Been a fan since Follow the leader era, I still listen and love Korn
they fucked up "Alive" in the take a look in the mirror album, but hey, they fucking nailed Serenity of suffering! awesome job
Layla is a badass song, too bad it was never on a official album.
Damn I love this version of blind, like many people said, the riffs are much better than the ones released on the self titled album, though the released riff is still iconic.
@Dark Matt_er yea in early 1990’s this was heavy, I still headbang blind no matter what.
For its time blind was heavy as hell. Now when I listen to it, it flows like pudding.
Wow, first time hear it :D It is fuckin' cool. KoRn rules !
Holy the first version of blind wow its different asf
btw theyre in a# standard not a standard
@Nathan T oh yis yt roasts
@Nathan T in the shadow learn, thanks to chin chin
wait...where the fuck is pink guy?
@iFLVR I got the roast lord with me bro, these dudes aint shit for him
Daddy's refrain here sounds crazy good.
Simplemente una joyita músical. ❤
It's funny how the only songs in there that really have their signature sound are the ones that never made it on the albums: This broken soul and Layla. It's like they decided this was their sound, and applied it to the rest of the songs when recording again them for the albums.
Damn they still had that kinda hippy-groove from LAPD here.. Ross really was pivotal in helping them get there in terms of darkness. Korn - Korn is like getting punched in the face and liking it.
I love how alive was a demo in 1993 and then became an official song in 2003 on take a look in the mirror
Best thing korn has ever done. Of course subjective opinion. So honest and hungry
Jonathan's singing sounds so strange in this album. sounds like hes literally crying his heart and soul out
@Monad I'm sorry you were born somewhere where meth was part of the community. Hope you sort it for yourself
@Monad Of course it's not haha
@Shehathnoname Exactly haha
@Skware US METH :)
Sounds like a goat at some points. Still awesome tho
Layla sounds like a combination of Clown and Got the Life
Definitely get ADIDAS vibes during the verse. I expect to hear "I don't know your fucking name" building up to the chorus.
to me, I feel like it is like ball togue than anything else
Got the Clown. That’s Jeff Creath’s version 😂
And kinda like ball toungue
Inferno - it sounds more like another song FROM Follow the Leader 25:36
Best work Korn ever produced.
This brings back some good memories. Me and the boys at hobby warehouse Rc racetracks hanging out and singing to this after the races. Good times. I wish we could go back to those days
Predictable sounds awesome!
For a demo, that's a tasty kick drum
You can hear so many of their future songs originating in this demo. You can hear both Freak on a Leash and Need To in Alive. Shoots and Ladders and Lies in This Broken Soul. Clown in Layla.
wonderful, the song alive was one of the band's first sounds and was only recorded on the take a look in the mirror album, unbelievable.
This Demo includes the most scary songs I ever heard :D
This version of Predictable is so great
Some demos sound “better” than the final product sometimes...
Freaking Raw!!!!!!! Love this Demo!!!!
I love this whole demo tape
They version of Alive on Take A Look In The Mirror does it so much justice. I LOVE that album yet it seems the general opinion is it was meh. I felt it was so heavy and with the right amount of Hip-Hop in the mix. Especially awesome coming from untouchables.
Predictable sounds like something I'd record with my old band. Audio quality wise.
Saw them on their first tour when I was like 13. Second concert.
OMG Alive sounds amazing
please send me the HQ audio of this!! unless there is somewhere else I can find it!! been looking for a great sounding version of these tracks!!!
Fuuuuuuck this is perfect too me. Grunge, thrash, metal, experimental metal, metal, with just enough funk. This should have been grunge metal. Amazing.
OH! I forgot metal
Founders of nu metal are fine where they lye
@D-erek he has forgotten metal
Before I click on your comment it says " I was supposed to go to this show )-: " Then it says something different when I click on it
This "daddy" version sounds so freaking dark, more than the retail one. Love it.
The album one is so much darker
No it doesn’t
Demo versions for the win.
This broken soul is my jam.
I grew out of listening to Korn a while ago, but this is still pretty good, compared to what they shat out after.
This and their self titled album are the only ones I like
Drums are better here than in the official version
I wish they would have re done Layla like they did Alive.
Honestly the alive demo is better then the TALITM version by a long shot
Just like alive it wouldn't have sounded as good as the original unreleased version
@Randy Baker I wish they had made Alive just like the demo.
How am I just finding this in 2020?!?!?! I've been with korn since 1994!!!
Right WTF ?!?!?
I’m so bummed They didn’t use that sound clip of Jonathan saying “Come out and play” at 10:35 in the original Korn album. I love the way it adds a little more flair to the song
I love the ending of blind way more on this version than the studio version.
This is a great example of how producers really effect a bands vibe
Pain and rage and fear I feel! Fucking love that part
Thanks for uploading been a corn fan all my life what a great find
Can you provide a download link to this? I love the remaster so much
