      @00blaat00 7 років тому +60

      I've been in heavy metal for over 15 years. You tell me how many more before I'm allowed to have an opinion.
      When you compare this version of Predictable to the one on their first full CD, you'll notice that the drum/bass groove is more pronounced here, less overshadowed by nu-metal's hallmark wall-of-sound. That, combined with some of the guitar fills, gives me - personally - a kind of 'Master of Puppets' feel.
      Sure, Davis' voice makes it a completely different experience. But it is still some way off from the nu-metal sound that's in their later work.
      BTW, same goes for this version of Blind. Listen to 05:36 and tell me you don't hear Metallica.

      I will say, even though this version of Daddy sounds terrible in comparison, I do wish that I could have heard this version in a legit recording. The verses here sound laughable compared to the album, but the music is so good. I'd have loved to hear a crossover version between the 2. The music on this one seems to be better, but the vocal delivery is nowhere near as good. On the other hand, Alive's studio version is better in every way, haha!

    Is it just me, or does the playful laughing kinda make this version of Daddy alittle more sinister than the studio version? Not to take anything away from the latter; Daddy from their self titled is easily one of the most unsettling and psychologically distraught songs I think I've ever heard, but that playful laughter here just made it even more... sadistic and belittling, in a sense. Just pure downright savagery.

    This and their self titled debut and life is peachy, deftones’ adrenaline and white pony, slipknot’s MFKR, self titled, and Iowa truly influenced the direction that metalcore and deathcore took. Any time I listen to bands like suicide silence and Chelsea grin the influence of nu metal is just undeniable. Also too, the clear influence these guys took from hardcore bands like earth crisis and biohazard is undeniable.

      wtf man i was just going through slipknot’s self-titled, Iowa, and listened to The Cleansing again. This is weird as fuck, i just turned 30 and it’s important for me to get into bands i dismissed as a kid ‘for being too popular’. this demo is cool, weird I just listened to AIC Unplugged too for the first time and grunge vocals are a big influence on this demo. Never listened to Korn but I’m starting here. Death is my go-to band by the way, can’t get enough. R.I.P. Layne, Joey Jordison and Chuck, man…🙏

    • @tshred666
      @tshred666 9 місяців тому +2

      @@getbakedtonight I relate big time to that. I just turned 28 and have been reevaluating and reexamining all kinds of art and music. While my introduction to more extreme music was bands like Korn, Slipknot, Bullet for my Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold, and Cradle of Filth; I spent my entire adolescence dismissing and insulting these and similar bands (mainly Suicide Silence) that had marginal commercial and critical success. I basically spent my entire time in high school denying the fact that I do in fact love this mallcore shit. This mallcore shit is good. These bands all manage to blend and modify their influences in a way that is still fresh and exciting, even a decade and a half later.
      But to be even more specific, it’s cool to listen to bands like pantera, earth crisis, and biohazard and hear immediate influence that they had on bands like korn and slipknot. Then turn around and see the immediate impact korn and slipknot had on the metal scene and directions established metal bands took, which directly influenced the bands that got big in the scene when we were kids. Like listen to vulgar display of power and far beyond driven, then this demo and Korn’s first two full lengths, then listen to how every established band in metal tried to copy them, then how that sudden explosion of slowed down super groovy metal and hardcore basically acted as the foundation for metalcore and deathcore. There is a straight line from songs like becoming and a new level to songs like good god and divine to songs like destruction of a statue and wake up and hands of a killer. In fact I even surprised my friend by pulling up where all these different bands directly copied each other’s ideas. He thought he was the only one who had heard it for longest time.
      But on the topic of deathcore, I would be remiss if I ignored the impact of bands like Cryptopsy and suffocation. Cryptopsy especially since their audio production on none so vile and whisper supremacy was why so many deathcore bands were so drum heavy. And lord worm’s vocals on none so vile and blasphemy made flesh were definitely the inspiration for the pig squeals and inhale screams that made a lot of deathcore bands so memeable. Hell, I’m pretty sure blasphemy made flesh is the earliest record in extreme metal that made heavy use of inhale techniques. And for song structure and riff composition, those first three crypstopy records also acted as foundational for the sort of chaotic and borderline schizophrenic song structure employed by the more technical bands in the scene. The similarities Job for a Cowboy has on Doom, Genesis, and Ruination to those early cryptopsy records is undeniable. Quickly shifting between thrash sections, groove sections, breakdowns, double time sections, half time sections, all seemingly randomly hobbled together when you first listen to it. But the more you listen the more you realize that it’s incredibly intentional and thought out.
