Those previous dodgy patches over rust... Now I'm not defending them completely they are obviously bodge jobs, rust traps, and had to go to long term preserve the car, but they must have meant the car got through another MOT and stayed out of the scrapyard for at least one more year when it otherwise wouldn't have and so without them there would be perhaps nothing to restore properly today!
Just food for thought when we're all swearing at the previous guys bodge jobs while restoring these things.

    One comment; dust masks.
I worked at Barnsley Hospital in the mid 1990s and watched an autopsy of an ex-miner who died aged 70. He looked like he was in quite good shape and all his internal organs were fine, except his lungs, which were clogged with coal dust. So much so that the pathologist dipped a finger into the soup and was able to paint black lines with it.
She said, "Apart from being dead, this man was in pretty good health."
I would imagine inhaling lots of rust over a lifetime could have a similar effect.

Why is everyone quipping about the rust? The rust isn't the problem. The problem is the lack of solid metal (due to it turning into rust)...
I'm just amazed at what they can do! To me as a complete novice this looks like a lost cause!

As a company, how many angle grinder wire wheels and cutting blades do you go thru in a typical month? I'm guessing a metric butt-ton!

I'm surprised you guys don't have a sandblasting booth. You know, the fellas at BlastOne could fabricate one for your garage. If you give them a shout tell them Alex F. referred you. It'd be a good addition to your shop 👍

Shop sounds trump mediocre music 8 days a week. (Yes, I realize this is an old man comment.)

Hi guys, great work. I just wanted to ask, does doing all the metal work in the cold affect the welds etc in the warmer months?, given that cold metal shrinks and hot metal would expand.
Thanks in advance for taking time to answer my question :)

i'm not sure whether BMW chassis were treated when manufactured, i have a 25 year old Audi S3 which i am stripping and cleaning up for respray (changing from black to light blue), and i have to say i am amazed at how good it is condition wise, barely any rust, even the undersides of the doors are not that bad, only the drivers door needs a little welding attention, you'd think as normal the passenger side (in the UK) would suffer worst
the only thing that concerned me the most, was when i finally get the new paint job, all the trim and everything will look a little on the tatty side, all the plastics looking their age, faded a dirty dusty grey and i hate to use silicon products as they don't last
but i have found soaking everything in soapy water, a good clean up with gun wash, and then found an amazing product that brings back all that black trim back to looking almost new, can't say what it is as i am still developing it

I am glad I came across this channel. I've found some rust around windscreen in my 99 Civic which after cutting out the windscreen looks pretty bad, so will require some fabrication. I am not panel beater or body shop technician so anything what you're doing giving me rough idea how I need to repair my car. I would like to see episode where you can recommend some products for finishing job after welding like epoxy primers, panel bonds and adhesives. I really struggle to find products which don't break the bank and are still good for amature repairs.
