I watched this series recently and would highly recommend it as it is about 80% historically accurate. I don't understand why Adolfo Celi was criticised because he was quite brilliant as Rodrigo Borgia and I didn't have any problem understanding him - he spoke slowly and his diction was good.
I've always been rather supportive of The Borgias. It's a great period piece with central performances that add to drama. Yes, there's one or two actor's that let the side down, but overall this BBC drama deserves far more credit than what the series had chucked at it back in 1981. It may very well be the "Heaven's Gate" of BBC drama productions, minus Rhodes, that cost the BBC a flipping fortune, but it's also a rewarding watch.
I remember when this series was on UA-cam.......Netflix doesn't even stream Borgia anymore......You know, the one with John Doman as Rodrigo and also featuring the actors who played Samwell Tarly and Jorah Mormont from Game of Thrones as Cardinal Giovanni de'Medici and Friar Girolamo Savonarola respectively?
@@MW3laforce of you watched the series 'The Borgias' released in 2011 on Showtime? Cesare was great in that one, very charismatic and strong and charming played by Francois Arnaud
i read a lot a books on these guys this is i say 75% history accurate. the one jeremy irons not even 10% accurate. the borgias faith and Fear that one is also say 75% accurate too.

Critics particularly disliked Adolfo Celi's thick accent, but I thought that was actually the best thing about it!

For what it's worth, the ratings were pretty good.
Best Borgias series
Cotton's performance as Owen of Clun was brilliant..
Yo vi esa serie allá por 1995, 1996.. y es una gran serie. Espero poder verla nuevamente..
I don’t know why this series was so badly reviewed when it first came out, but I think it is much better than that and actually rather underrated.
