I was disappointed in Mike Gonzalez's ability to convince voters to support former President Trump for a second term. I thought Amanda Carpenter was much more convincing in her examples clearly indicating why Mr. Trump should never be entrusted with the Presidency ever again (but to be honest, it was an easy lay-up for her). I would have liked to have seen an extended version of this program allowing for more questions from the audience of college students. I am always interested in hearing the concerns of young voters who will be instrumental in upcoming elections. As a life-long Democrat, I should be rejoicing in the chaos that Mr. Trump has brought to the current Republican Party. However, I am troubled by Republicans who have basically surrendered to Mr. Trump, paying his legal bills with donations that could be used to promote and nurture the candidacy of traditionally conservative Republicans seeking office. Mr. Trump has basically become a parasite on the Republican Party's purse strings, and I often wonder how long it will take to repair all the damage he has done. I feel confident that President Biden will win re-election, because Mr. Trump has shown no interest nor ability to attract Independent voters to add to his MAGA base. In addition, he has nothing to fill the void left by Republicans (many from his own cabinet) who rejected him after the violence of Jan. 6. His worship of dictators and flirtation with encouraging political violence are something that is completely antithetical to the principles our country was founded on.

I would love to see a long form of this discussion / debate. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, both guests were largely repeating standard talking points. For example, I think you could have a 30-60 minute debate on just the question of defining an insurrection. Was the BLM protests an insurrection, and comparable to January 6th? I know what I think, but I would like to see an intelligent discussion of issues which divide Trump supporters from the Never Trump Republicans. These two appeared very capable, but did not have the time to develop their argument, and critique the other.
Trump had his legal eagles come up with the “Green Bay Sweep” plan where 5 or 6 states Trump lost were going to have both the correct and an alternative set of electors be given to VP Pence. He was supposed to then not certify the election, but send those elector sets back to those states and have their GOP majority legislatures vote on what set of electors to send back to DC, flipping the victory to Trump. Trump also staged a rally on the same day that turned into partially violent riot that accidentally spilled into the Capital and interrupted the GB sweep play. Trump managed to F up his own soft coup, and caused many of his rally goers be taken hostage by the DOJ, after a they were given a fair trial.

I’ve been a moderate conservative for a long time. I’m no longer a republican as of Trump’s first term. At that time it wasn’t so much Trump as it was the quality of Republicans. I liked some of Trump’s policies but I despise the man. He is everything I’ve tried all my life not to be. I don’t like the political far left but my assessment is they are smaller in number and less of a problem than the crazy right has become. I will vote for Biden again this time around. I didn’t like Afghanistan and I don’t agree with student loan forgiveness but I do agree with supporting Ukraine, how he’s handled the economic recovery after Covid, and the infrastructure bill that was passed. So he gets my vote. Finally, I think it’s notable that NOBODY who worked for Trump in is first term is endorsing him. In fact, they are warning against him. Ultimately, this is a warning I’m choosing to heed.

I am very impressed by Hoover's lines of questioning and her control over the interviews. I have seen only two of her interviews and she comes off as very intelligent and doing a good job at both questioning and moderating at the debates. I would love to see a long form of this discussion / debate. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, both guests were largely repeating standard talking points. For example, I think you could have a 30-60 minute debate on just the question of defining an insurrection. Was the BLM protests an insurrection, and comparable to January 6th?
I know what I think, but I would like to see an intelligent discussion of issues which divide Trump supporters from the Never Trump Republicans. These two appeared very capable, but did not have the time to develop their argument, and critique the other.
Trump had his legal eagles come up with the “Green Bay Sweep” plan where 5 or 6 states Trump lost were going to have both the correct and an alternative set of electors be given to VP Pence. He was supposed to then not certify the election, but send those elector sets back to those states and have their GOP majority legislatures vote on what set of electors to send back to DC, flipping the victory to Trump. Trump also staged a rally on the same day that turned into partially violent riot that accidentally spilled into the Capital and interrupted the GB sweep play. Trump managed to F up his own soft coup, and caused many of his rally goers be taken hostage by the DOJ, after a they were given a fair trial.

I’ve been a moderate conservative for a long time. I’m no longer a republican as of Trump’s first term. At that time it wasn’t so much Trump as it was the quality of Republicans. I liked some of Trump’s policies but I despise the man. He is everything I’ve tried all my life not to be.
I don’t like the political far left but my assessment is they are smaller in number and less of a problem than the crazy right has become. I will vote for Biden again this time around. I didn’t like Afghanistan and I don’t agree with student loan forgiveness but I do agree with supporting Ukraine, how he’s handled the economic recovery after Covid, and the infrastructure bill that was passed. So he gets my vote.
Finally, I think it’s notable that NOBODY who worked for Trump in is first term is endorsing him. In fact, they are warning against him. Ultimately, this is a warning I’m choosing to heed.

I am very impressed by Hoover's lines of questioning and her control over the interviews. I have seen only two of her interviews and she comes off as very intelligent and doing a good job at both questioning and moderating at the debates. This Gonzales guy is really dumb, and he is gonna get himself deported for supporting a candidate that hates him. He is terrible at defending his position too.
Amanda Carpenter is an excellent debater and she clearly articulates the existential threat of a second Trump administration.

Good to see this program finally having two different sides represented. This is more along the lines of how Firing Line was when William F. Buckley was the host. Usually there is a more progressive slant with Margaret Hoover and the guests that she has on.

Amanda seems pretty conservative, because she wants to maintain US governing traditions and democratic institutions. Arguing for keeping free & fair elections, freedom from government persecution, etc., all seem pretty conservative. Unfortunately, there isn't a conservative party in the US today.
