The Vietnam special is the GOAT imo. The togetherness of the group, the scenery, the ‘forfeit’ bike, the interaction with the people around them, the ‘gifts’ they bought each other, the suits, the way they thought they were millionaires with the Dong currency but could only buy bikes.

For the Vietnam special the crew had to focus a lot more on the three as people, not on the journey per se. Because the journey wasn't as challenging as they thought it would be, they put more focus on their interactions and chemistry as they travelled through one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It's why it will always be my favourite TG/GT special.

My favorite has to be Vietnam and the Bolivia specials. Being from South America(Peru), it’s nice to see us get painted in a positive light. And then seeing Jeremy fall in love with biking and then going back to hating it as soon as he fell off is so memorable.

When they choose to retire. They should do a finale special in my opinion. In which they go all out and cross a whole continent. A Europe special where they go from Russia to UK or vice versa would be so cool. And they change cars through the different cultures. So they use an off-road car for northern Europe, then if they snake down through Italy they use Italian sports cars, into Germany they max it on the autobahn etc.
They did one for Africa, it would be so cool to see them go through Asia, or Europe, South America etc.

So many great trips they made, but one of the best imo is the mongolia. To say its an automotive show wouldn't be fitting. But the challenge they had to go through, the struggle, the frustation, as well as their teamwork, banters, showered with extra knowledge they shared. Simply an epic piece of entertainment. Not to mention the breathtaking Mongolia itself, absolute gem.
In all fairness, its not for everyone. But to a lot of us, I believe the episode brings out what we're looking for from this trio. Their presenting skills, the friendship, the adventure. Really put a big smile on my face, and that I can't thank the grand tour team enough for.
    Keep rockin' lads

I think that clip from Alabama shows the difference between then and now. If they tried something like that today, they would have pre-arranged it all, there would be 20 perfectly lined up camera shots and multiple rehearsed jokes and it would all feel completely fake. Whereas back then it's all very messy, they seemed to miss half of what was going on as the pickups arrived and there's a late cut to the angry woman, then they had shots of the camera man running away with cuts to black with the audio from the radios and it all felt very real. Even if there is a chance it was faked.
But today, everything on The Grand Tour is contrived, preplanned, rehearsed and not natural. As if they are worried if they didn't write it in advance then nothing interesting would happen.

    • @traeyboy529

I don't think *literally* everything on The Grand Tour's completely fake. Maybe the majority of that show's material, sure but I'm pretty sure not all of it.

It’d be hard for me to pick a top 5 road trip episode, don’t even know where to begin with all episodes, but one of my favorites is when they try to find the perfect road with Jeremy in a gallardo, Richard in a gt3, and James in a racing vantage. It has great scenery of France and Italy with great banter and problems without seeming completely scripted like some others, also it was the first time watching top gear so that episode stuck with me.
