Thanks for sharing, but the kilogram has always bothered me. KILO. The unit for length isn´t kilometer, nor is the unit for force micro-Newton. It´s an exception I´m not pleased with, yet so embedded that fixing it is just as awkward. I´m a metric person, but not because of the units themselves. I´m perfectly fine using inches and pounds, as long as we use the DECIMAL system. Hence, kilo-inches & centi-inches, or deci-pounds. The problem with the imperial system, is they use multiple units at the same time. Yards, inches, miles & feet all mixed up. It contradicts the definition of standard, if you ask me.

Nothing (cough) beats a Tim Traveller video hitting UA-cam. It brightens the day. Tim, if you read these comments I want to thank you for a forthcoming trip to Germany. It includes many of the places you have produced films about and I wouldn't be going to them unless I had discovered this channel (I think at around the 30K subscribers mark). So thank you. We're really looking forward to going to Monchau, Mettlach, Volklingen, Wuppertel, etc etc. We owe you a pint. In the meantime keep the content coming please.
*ahem* that was hallarious.
hilarous
@@Friek555 Cheers!
The Siège had me laughing even after the video ended! Great video as usual.
Billy Joel was right, we didn't start the fire. The French did
Great history lesson. Thanks Tim "The Time" Traveller 👍🏼👍
UA-cam has a really annoying issue. It only lets me upvote videos like this once.
Probably your best one yet. Great work Tim
I visited the royal park of Saint-Cloud some time ago and was hoping to find some remains of the palace, but alas. Never knew the cause of its destruction, I just assumed the Communards were to blame.
They were. They were the ones who shelled the palace. Plus, with their track record of destruction - Tuileries Palace, just to give the most infamous example - one can be excused for not putting any act of wonton destruction past them.
@@tally1604 Ah, thanks for clearing that up!
singing Don't Leave Me This Way as they watched the poor thing burn to the ground? Sorry, I'll get my coat.
I really appreciate the way you give all that useful "how to get here and what to know" tips at the end. Super helpful!
“Trump shelling the Whitehouse” not to far off the mark as a prediction.
Except it wasn't him, but who cares about details today.
That joke about the white house @6:11 was prophetic.
6:08 Should we call you Tim the Prophet now?
Nice insights! Always love Marie Antoinette ♥️
A bit like the Paris Hilton of her century.
@@johndododoe1411 Great, I've never thought of that...yes😍 she's trendsetter and that makes her legendary, stay true to herself all around! That's making her full with transcendent elements!
@@MicaRayan I meant she was a bit ditty and played around with a pretend version of a simple life.
That remark on shelling the White House became pretty close
There is something about how The Tim Traveller. I have never been more excited about learning history, in my entire 40 years of life.
I thank you, sir! I hope you have a nice day.
Always a pleasure watching your videos
Maybe you can record one about your life and livelihood in France?
It would be great to get some inside into the mans life who inspires us all with these great videos!
Tip: it doesn't resemble one bit of how americans think paris is like 😂😂 like 'emily in Paris'....naha 😉
Loved your content and sense of humor! Nice videos!
From January 14 2021, man that line about Trump shelling the White House is a little too prescient. Are you sure you’re not a time traveler?
Time travel is on his second channel. He usually keeps the content apart but you know how it is when you know the future.
Not really. You fell for a lot of really dumb propaganda.
Here in November 2024. Still scarily relevant.
Highly enjoyable as usual, my friend. Kudos!
Take a shot everytime Tim shows us a unused railway.
Running out of booze!

THIS CHANNEL IS AMAZING!! Why am I finding it just now???? LOVE IT!
The company i work for manufactured the original Kilogram referance standard, held at the Bureau :)
@@STARDRIVE They do use milli-inches, abbreviated "mil" .
3:35 love how Bismarck is from Blackburn, Lancashire
Never, ever, accuse a Yorkie of coming from the dark side! I'm a Yorkie through and through. From the very heart of the county. I forgive you.
8:38 This Huge building in the middle Kind of destroys the landscape, doesnt it?
Thank the universe I wasn’t drinking coffee when you said that bit about the orange man.
5:21 nice little play on words with the English/French meaning of "siege" in the graphic
Excellent. Funny and informative.. wish these videos were longer!
"I probably shouldn't joke about that one." No, indeed, it's too close to happening.
I have the best shells, nobody is better at shelling things than me. The radical liberal White House had it coming.
We all thought that ww3 would be between the US and Iran or China and India but no one could have anticipated that the US actually starts another civil war that causes ww3 (sort of like how the first civil war could’ve started a world war if Europe got involved if memory serves me right).
My source is Monsieur Z’s video about it but take it with a grain of salt like I did
I fully expect him to literally poop on the Resolute Desk on the way out.
I laughed for two second as I thought that's a good joke. Then I was more like "Shit, that's not even that unlikely".
What an "interesting" time to be alive
I love that you're playing the Who Wants to be a Millionaire song they play when the contestant is thinking of the answer on piano when talking about Germany.
@0:20 it's a mouth-nose-mask
see, my 3-yo son told me some months ago when they said in the radio everyone should wear a mouth-nose-mask, "mom, this is called a protective mask" (imaginge this conversation in German) and end up me stunning at his knowledge and understanding. This far more understanding from a 3-yo than from lots of peoploe out there.
@@FrauWNiemand if he understands it's supposed to cover mouth and nose :-)
@@derHutschi he fully understood this point and also yelling at people in public transport the they don't cover tehir nose, that they should cover it - which is really embarrassing sometimes.
@@FrauWNiemand why is it embarassing? it's a three year old boy telling other people to 'shut tf up and be responsible'! if one of my nephews did that he would get an ice :-P
@@derHutschi definitely. But, as you may know, people in German public transport are sometimes... kind of angry when beeing told things like this. And I really fear getting in some argument with an angry "Schwurbler".
Absolutely wonderful video! Perhaps your best yet ... Many thanks!
«Maybe I shouldn´t joke about that» in october 2020. You may have prophetic powers.
My grand parents used to live in Saint-Cloud, I've spend loooog boooooring afternoons there, including the ritual tour in the nearby parc, and I had never heard this piece of history before seeing your video... Thanks for sharing it, I guess I'll go back to Saint-Cloud with more pleasure now ! (and by the way, my grandfather was one of the director of the SNCF, and reading « La Vie du Rail », a newspaper for train enthusiasts was one of my distractions during those family afternoon... it seems that Train has a connection with everything !)
I know you were joking and all, but you were uncannily close with the Trump bombing the white House line. Love the content, keep up the good work!
Lockdown and all the 2020 craziness have changed the way I enjoy your videos, because.. as a Parisian on one side I don't learn much anymore by watching them :-) but on the other side, I really realize and appreciate the work you are putting into them even more, and it's great to know that your viewers all around the world are learning about this. Should they come and visit Paris in the future, they may stray from the overcrowded classic tourist-y areas! Now everytime I go for a stroll in a park or through the Petite Ceinture, I somewhat expect to bump into you shooting a video :)

@mark bushnell Or Boris.
@mark bushnell Despite his snarky tone and implication, it's more likely to actually be Joe. Whose followers have already been violent, and have promised even more?
Nothing harder to see than an absence. Thank you Tim for helping. And, love your accent!
Tim's mask is slipping. Literally speaking. Really hope there's no figurative mask. Not that I have concrete reasons to worry that there is.
So you are literally concerned that his figurative mask is literally (figuratively speaking) slipping?
Ps Was the concrete literal or figurative? Got to be sure, why do you think that bridge collapsed in Italy a year or so ago.
I drove there with my bike last summer and didnt even know what it was. Thank you for enlighting me :)
"I can't speak french" was a nice touch.
Thanks Tim, another interesting video and I learned a bit of history too. Plus a bit of railway. Win win!
Ok, second comment now I’ve seen the video - that was wonderful! This is how European history should be taught! (Also, good dig at nationalists and what can happen!)
Another brilliant video! Thanks, Tim.
Tim, if you had mentioned “Capitol”, that would be a hit! Very close to it!
Great video!
I know Tim would probably want to be traveling more but I'm really digging all this Paris history. I'm not a Francophile, I don't speak French, and I've never been to Paris so I'm finding all of this very interesting and it is all new to me. And as an American we don't really learn much about the Franco-Prussian wars as that was prime Manifest Destiny US history.
I'm not French (I'm Irish), I've never been to Paris and I can only speak some French, but every Tim Traveller video makes me want to visit Paris more and more!
@TheRenaissanceman65 The only bit of French history learned in Ireland (up to Junior Cert) is the French Revolution, mainly because it inspired the 1798 Irish rebellion which was supported by the French.
5:24 - So is that when snails and frogs legs started? ;-)
The Germany School of Paris is in Saint Cloud and for three years I had the pleasure to explore the area. Thanks for that video.
Absolutely brilliant, thanks! And no, never assume any given thing is something Trump wouldn't possibly do...😯😷
Recently discovered your channel. Love it. Informative and funny at the same time. Thank you.
I love you humour.
