Hands up- I live in Singapore and I still feel compelled to watch how to build a backyard rink while sat outside in shorts and t shirt! I think I need to move to Canada
We built a 60’x30’ DIY Rink. We bought two 100’x20’ rolls of 6 mil Poly from HD at about $80 each. Since we’d have a seam to seal in the middle, we looked around for the best tape. Viper tape was recommended, but it’s pretty expensive for the 60+ feet we required. Other tapes (e.g. Gorilla, others) are either VERY expensive and/or have POOR ADHESION to the Poly. We tried and had very good success (Great adhesion, waterproof - no leaks) with 3-3/4 in. x 90 ft. ZIP System Tape (Flashing Tape) from HD. $25 Bucks for the roll. So if you’re gonna spare some cost and use Tarps or need to seal seams on Poly, I highly recommend this tape - it’ll get the job done and won’t break the bank.
Coach Jeremy was the reason why I started playing hockey...I came to Canada three years ago and was interested in hockey because most of my classmates played for rep teams so I watched one of Jeremy's vids and it made me love hockey...I play for my school team now thanks Coach Jeremy for inspiring young ones like us!!!
Thanks so much for sharing this. Definitely having hockey withdraw this year and it's going to be fun watching you build and run your hockey rink. I'm really looking forward to it.
Well guys I may try just staking a bunch of stakes in the ground push pool noodles over them and clamp the liner to that. Hoping having tons of stakes will support enough. Or building walls out of snow then hosing it to see if it freezes solid enough.
Hey coach Jeremy this year was my best year hockey wise first I have always been in house league and I decided to try for rep then COVID hit but I still got on rep and me and my dad decided to try to do an Odr and we have the boards up just waiting till it’s cold and I want to say that your videos helped my so much with hockey
04:45 - To ensure square corners people can also use the 3-4-5 method (put this term into youtube and you'll get a few dozen instructional). So much easier, very reliable, and can be done by yourself.
If your going to dig or pound spikes or supports in your yard, it may be wise to get a utility locate done to confirm there are no underground utilities in conflict with your rink.
Thx for the tip jermey just got a gockeyshot product. Its the passing kit its awesome. I will think abt building a rink this year. But its hot then cold here in Chicago so I hope to build one
Seeing all the rinks up in MTL and knowing we can't play hockey on them is such a bummer. It's like getting an ice cream and only being allowed to eat the cone. I think I might try to build a rink this year.
Please do a video of your re-surfacing too! Last year was my first ODR and I just used some hot water and a mop at silly hours of the night. I mean, it worked well enough, but it wasn't exactly easy.
Dear Coach Jeremy, You have inspired me soooooo much and I really appreciate it. I have been watching tons of your videos and they are awesome! Hayden is so funny! Anyways, you are the best! Merry cold weather to hockey
This is awesome!! When I was little we would skate on field ice. It wasn't very big, and you had to dodge corn stalks sometimes but it was fun........until the farm decided to put tile in and drain it. One year we had a big ice storm and woke up to a huge beautiful rink. Over double the size of a normal drink, super smooth with one spot of ripples for when we felt like dare devils and would go fast over it. Will definitely have to consider this!
This season, we might actually be able to make one. Last year we only got 1 snow and it was only 3” the year before that we got several snows with one of them being about 15” it actually snowed today so hopefully 🤞
Did you also buy your liner from Homedepot? Most Canadian thing to do for this winter considering most of the local rinks are closed due to current circumstances
Now I know where all that pressure treated wood went to during last years pandemic freak out. We just skate on the lakes and rivers in Maine. Maybe snow blow and area and spray it down
Very nice! Congrats. Question, are you re-floating after the game and then wait the froze and then resurface? Could you explain a little more about the maintaing of the ice? In which order? Thank you for your help.
Where/how is the best place to store all the stuff when the season is over? Might have to head back to home depot to buy all the supplies to build a big shed. 🤔🤔
Is there a version of this with a concrete base? I would love to build something that could be a roller rink in the summer and an ice rink in the winter. Is this possible?
Hey Coach Jeremy! What is that backstop/netting you have hooked up to your posts? Looking to make a rink like this but on a smaller scale this year. Thanks!
Can someone tell me if it would work if you wait for snow, then flatten the yard then spray it for the little layer and then flood it then make boards with snow?
Hey Jeremy, me and my familys yard is not leveled a lot and we're surrounded by fences. Do you think the plywood and the tricks you say would work? My rink would be 24 by 40 and i also would like to ask if thats the same size as the rink of yours?
It all depends on how much of a slope there is. No matter what you can compensate with plywood and support, its just a matter of how much plywood and support you need to buy and how high you need to build it. You'll have to measure your slope and figure it out
Coach J: builds a hockey rink

This was probably cheaper than buying those synthetic ice pads.
💯 %%
True
ya defenently
Way cheaper but you can use the synthetic stuff year around and their isn't near as much maintenance.
and better
you are the most go happy hockey player ive seen.
Nice, great fun for all ages. Not cold enough down here is Virginia for a rink, have to stick with inline skating.

good to hear that
Awesome
watching this, in Australia, on a 40c degree day. Would love to skate outside one day!
Shame we’ll pretty much never get below 0°, but the indoor rinks are still awesome.
I love the backyard rink videos!!

What do you think of bracing rink boards to brick wall of house ? With wood 2x10 braces that run perpendicular to rink boards ?
good project to impress Your Pops

Every year they just get better and better
Miss building these with my dad in the backyard... living in the city no backyard anymore
Nice rink brackets from Costco helped me because I’m far from handy!!
This is helpful
Unfortunately here in NY it really hasn't gotten cold enough consistently to build a rink. Went with synthetic ice for my son.
Great video Jeremy! Keep it up! 😀

Me in Washington usa still waiting for it to get cold enough
This morning got a text that our season is now on pause so now to make this
Me watching this living in tropical area: "Alright all set, now I just need for the weather to get cold"
I live in south Texas where we get absolutely no snow yet I still watched the whole video and want to build a rink here so bad
Hi there! So do you have any advice on how to make a regular skating rink? Not an ice rink?
Step one, live in canada
Just awesome and can't wait to see finished rink 🤩👍
Where I live we already have all the odrs open we live in Edmonton
Where/how is the best place to store all the stuff when the season is over? Might have to head back to home depot to buy all the supplies to build a big shed. 🤔🤔
All I need is the cold weather, but I live in Texas 😓
Get synthetic ice more expensive but it good all year and less maintenance
we need the christmas gifts for hockey players again
Any tips for making a higher team next year. Are there are good off ice drills or products
We are getting a rink and we might use some of those tips
The snow blower can be a zamboni
Make a vid on how to make the wood supports
Is there a version of this with a concrete base? I would love to build something that could be a roller rink in the summer and an ice rink in the winter. Is this possible?
Hi, I am doing a backyard rink right now and a wanted to know how many inches of ice I need for it. Thank you.
Hey Coach Jeremy! What is that backstop/netting you have hooked up to your posts? Looking to make a rink like this but on a smaller scale this year. Thanks!
Its netting from RinkMaster in Guelph. 30ft x 10ft
It is that type of time boys ODR!
Ice N’Go is a great product to big guy
I wish I could build an ODR but I live in Vancouver
I miss ice skating! 😭

Hey coach great video next video can we get a picture of Mason see how he’s grown keep up the great work👍
Guess I'll use my 10 foot wide above ground pool when it gets cold enough
I wish I could build one in Washington
Me too😩
Been waiting for this video
Preparing for winter I see
*Me watching this when my countries is 107 degrees Fahrenheit on the daily* "Will this work in my back yard?"
boards: check
liner: check
water: check
cold weather: 85° crap
U should concrete it so for summer and when its warm u can still play out there
Is there a way to convert this into a roller hockey rink for the spring/summer/fall? Our winter is only like 3 months here :(
Great video 👍

I’m a brickmason so I’d build it out of blocks and practice mortar (basically water, lime, and masonry sand)
