  • I never spoke for that long in my entire life, but felt that the 701 deserved an in-depth review. I like it a lot but that doesn’t mean you should as well. Go out and try it. Let me know in the comments if you like/dislike these in-depth reviews. It’s something alien to me but will listen if many people like it.

    i think it's a really great idea to answer questions about the bike in the video.
    i've never seen any other bike reviewer do that, so thanks for that, RJ
    but if you REALLY want to start as a professional bike reviewer on youtube, there are some points you missed:
    -no titties on the thumbnail
    -video title not in all caps and something about pranks in the hood
    -no annoying voice
    -doing wheelies right in the middle of traffic
    -while complaining about car people not moving out of the way in the city for 1 second

      something that also occured to me is that you dont have an outro in your vids anymore. dat music.
      i really liked the 2013 one. for example, you could put the previous vids' highlights as thumbnails on the old outro.

    Also, enjoyed the humour! There's an element of Top Gear about it. "But what colour is the key?"

    3 hours on without discomfort is outstanding for any motorcycle, even more for a supermoto. Maybe I just haven't had the pleasure of truly comfortable bike seat, but it seems like more often than not, if you aren't looking at touring bikes, seat comfort is not a high priority for designers.

I do appreciate your in-depth review, your opinion carries some weight with me as I use my bikes for every day transport as well, all year. The engine rattle is from the counterbalance shaft, they could make it smoother at idle but then it would rattle at high RPM I think it's just a characteristic of the old rotax engine tbh (i know its KTM but they stole their engineers from Rotax when they built the LC4), does the engine have a counter balance shaft adjuster? being a single cylinder engine it has a 360 degree crank, to stop extreme rattle at high RPM they use a weighted gear or shaft to keep the engines momentum, its weighted to be best for the most used RPM I suppose, but that makes it chug a bit on idle as its an unbalanced weight, If the bike has a counterbalance shaft adjuster you can tune that out fairly easy, but obviously then you have the rattle at higher RPM where I'm sure it's be unbearable. But anyone buying a single cylinder knows to expect rattle :D

    • @royaljordanian
      @royaljordanian  8 років тому +5

      +The Mighty Dash My 511 has so much less rattle, the difference is night and day.

    • @themightydash1714
      @themightydash1714 8 років тому +13

      +RoyalJordanian The cylinder bore on the two bikes is only 1mm difference, but the 701 has a much bigger stroke, 84.5mm compared to 59.6mm on the 511, The further the piston has to travel the more pronounced it becomes, there is a long winded explanation for why but I won't go into that, lol. But basically its the transfer of energy from the piston to the crank, the longer the stroke and fewer the pistons (bigger gaps between power strokes) the more the pendulum effect you notice. So long stroke single cylinders rattle like hell, but short stroke v12s are silky smooth :D God now everyone knows how uncool I am, lol. Basically the extra 25mm makes all the difference.

    • @toothpik00
      @toothpik00 8 років тому +1

      +The Mighty Dash Not uncool at all, that was very informative and much appreciated. I'll probably never forget you little explanation actually. Cheers :)

    • @KenmeriCaptain
      @KenmeriCaptain 8 років тому

      +The Mighty Dash awesome amount of information, thanks for taking the time to type it all out

    • @themightydash1714
      @themightydash1714 8 років тому +3

      +KenmeriCaptain It's cool no worries I find all this stuff very interesting, The thing that gets me is that its a 4 stroke 1 cylinder, it takes 720 degrees of crank rotation to complete the 4 stroke cycle and 180 degrees of that is the power stroke... meaning 75% of the time the engine is producing no power at all. It gets even more interesting when talking about the Nuda, the BMW f800 engine it's based on has a 0 degree crank with 360 degree firing which means both pistons are in the same pistons but they do not fire at the same time so out of the suck/squeeze/bang/blow positions one cylinder is on suck when the next is on bang, because both cylinders move together the engine would rattle like hell, so it has a 3rd con rod that effectively connects to a damper in the bottom of the engine to keep it all smooth like a 3rd slave cylinder, where as the Nuda has a 270 degree crank (my bad it's 315 degree on the nuda) so the engine pulses which gives it the V-twin characteristics and can rev up faster as not all the weight is in one place in the engine at the same time... I've bored everyone to sleep haven't I.

    'Maybe he likes to see it take it from the back.' LOL! Interested in in-depth reviews?! With your enduro experience and apparent decades on bikes (guessing you raced enduros on bikes like your Yamahas), not to mention all the tours in so many countries on sometimes different bikes, and most importantly to me, your intelligent, mature approach to bikes and riding, I think any info from you is quite valuable. Evidently Husky thinks so too. I expect you'll get more bikes to review in the future. Would like to have heard your report on the other two riding modes. Keep up the great work!

    Hi RJ, thank for answering at my question (U-turn radius, maybe other people ask for it). I like and appreciate your comments and explain about the moto. It is important listen the opinion of who test or use a motorbike and it is important know from which type of rider/person comes this review for have a overall idea about the motorbike. The best suggest from you is "go and try by yourself" so everyone can build a own-opinion about it.
    I like your non-professional approach to this review, answering even at some "idiot" question :) , but i felt this as "genuine" approach to, and no like a sample promotional spot from professional rider, everyone can find a lot of it on YT or on a magazine. This is what i think about it, answering at your question. Ciao.

    I'd prefer the filler cap to be hinged, it's a silly little point, but it's just about added security, so you can't put down your key on a petrol pump then turn away from it! You're not going to leave the bike if the keys been stolen anyway so it'd be pointless for somebody to snatch it, but personally it'd just make me more comfortable!

    Thanks, a good review. I agree with you on the "riding selection" issue. My gosh who ever thought that design apparently does not Ride. The selection dial should be accessible without removing the seat. If one is riding and runs into road conditions that change, you would have to remove the seat etc. I think that issue would influence me not to buy the Bike. Of course that is just me.

    1:52 - The Yamaha wr250r stock muffler sounds great to me.
    I was going to pull the trigger on the 701 (enduro). But then i read about owners having problems with the transmission (getting false neutrals). The stock pipe burning the rear signals, other and other issues. These may seem minor, but in my opinion, it's not something that should be happening with a premium priced bike.
    If they work out the issues and are still are making this bike in 2017 or 2018, i'll check it out then.

    How is the quality of the plastic and paint on bodywork? How easily scratched is it and are oily dirty marks easily cleaned off?
    How is the quality of the metal parts? Has anything started to rust in the short time you've had it?

    When you get over 600 cc's in a motorcycle you really need more than one cylinder on the engine for a nice sound, Kawasaki has made a V twin 700 cc quad for years but refuses to use that engine in the KLR 650.

    Would you recommend a bike like this for someone who came from Superbike (R6/899) -> Standard (M821)? The positioning seems vastly different from the two.

    Would you advise to buy a KTM SMC-R or a Husqvarna 701 this summer?

    Hey RJ, at the moment I have a Honda 02 CBR900RR. I'm looking to buy a new motorcycle. The models I'm interested in are the Husqvarna 701 SM ot the Triumph Daytona (I know apples and pears) I ride year around except when it snows. My daily commute is 60 miles, 40 of which freeway. Is the husky up to it or would I be better of with the daytona? Ofcourse I'll testride them both. But value the opinion if someone who has ridden the husky and a supersport. Thx, great video review series on the 701

    Beautiful motard both the 701 that the 511 , to 14 minutes seems the sound of a military fighter, I think a Eurofighter or Tornado or Bae Hawk; (not to speak only of motion) and in my view unfortunate that the husqvarna after being acquired from the ktm has ceased to various 125 sm, 125 model you pre purchase ktm, wr and wre that despite being 2t voices but felt that they needed of less maintenance and consumed something less. Anyway congratulations for video and evening everyone.
