Hi there Steve & Jude. Lovely film. I always look forward to your calming and informative films. Very much looking forward to Montenegro. Thanks for sharing.
A friend had the same happen to his J35 , lifted up and dropped on a piling by a moron wakeboarding in a no wake zone . Punched a huge hole in the side and busted the stanchion. One last story , there was a checkbook captain roaring up and down in the no wake zone in front of my marina for about 1 hour . Then he came in to the fuel dock to buy fuel and a crowd of boaters would not let him tie up and get fuel . He just about got lynched . Was crying he needed fuel to get home - yup he did not get it .
This kind of thing has been happening all across the world, lately. What is wrong with people, where they believe that they can be so very inconsiderate of everyone around? Insurance companies have been increasing rates, and this is one example as to why this is happening. Your patience and inherent kindness are well appreciated, and I wish you all the best in your journeys.
Sorry about the bump! The idiot must have been going some to create that level of wash. The Aegean looks great - feels a long time since we were last there. Beautifully filmed as ever. Thanks 🙏
Love Symi, been there many times. Mooring in the town harbour is always fun! We found hiring a moped was the best way to get around the crescent shaped harbour from police to harbour master to customs (helpfully on opposite sides!) as it saved a long walk. Also happy memories of Pethi and Panormitis.
Im in bodrum at the minute, I was hoping to see fair isle out in the bay. Sorry about your scrape! Glad to see you enjoyed time with kraken recently too, I had a great time with them last year, amazing yachts.
Love the videos as we sail this area on our oceanis 41 out of Kos Marina. For others who might follow and who want to avoid the madness and cost of Symi harbour we would recommend mooring in Pedi bay to south. Then taking the bus to Symi, which goes every hour for €5 each way. The driver will also drop you off at the port police offices which can be a mission to find if you need to get you transit log stamped.
I would be as well. I would be tracking down speedboat and asking for his insurance details. Suppose hard to prove if you are not on boat, and harbour doesn't have marked speed limit, but had to be a power craft didn't it. Internet full of crash and wake damage vids caused by speeding power boats, Grrrr.
Happy to hear you're coming across the pond at some point! Please don't miss coming to Newfoundland! Lovely little fishing town and harbour where I live, just outside St. John's, called Petty Harbour, where you can tie up on the breakwater, and I'll walk over with a couple of cold G&Ts for you! 47° 27' 51" N, 52° 42' 16" W

You were pretty calm there Steve welcome to Greece (I live on Corfu) where everyone is an expert, which of course they are not. When it comes to selfish irresponsibility I don't think I would react as reasonable as you. Only seems 5 minutes since you were wintering in Venice and now planning yet another winter elsewhere. Thanks for the content...happy sailing.
The adventure continues! Amazing seeing these beautiful locations that have been in use for thousands of years. Thanks for taking us with you. Great production quality. Shame you got damaged, would a board keep it in position better ? Love the goat shot at the end.
I don’t think a board would have helped, it may have just got caught up and caused more damage. We do have a skirt fender which is a 6 foot long roll of plastic which is meant for rough dockside’s, but this wasn’t really that either. We sat there perfectly for half an hour before walking around to the harbour master & customs, even the ferry going past wasn’t a problem. The super yacht must have come in at some speed, it would have been a ‘professional’ captain on that sort of boat too, shocking.
A quick lick of paint and it will be fine,😁😉. Sad but you'll get it sorted. So handy that it is made so easy to book in and out. I will not understand why there often seems to be a need for as many people as possible to help you part with money.
Ouch. Having been to Symi and most likely using it when I cross back after summer I plan to anchor in the next bay and kayak/walk over to check in. Fair winds in GR. Cheers
Another great film and love the soundtrack. Sorry to see Fair Isle with an injury but glad to see your positive attitude to it. I have a request for you both, can you please do an episode than covers the Schengen shuffles and how you manage the 90 days in every 180 for EU counties and the shuffle to start the clock on non-eu countries like Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey with their own 90 day rules. I understand counties like Turkey offer 12 month visas for winter boat storage. I would also like to hear about the UK VAT rules for boats post-Brexit. Can a non vat paid boat visit the UK at all or for any boat refits? Perhaps you can get an RYA or Cruising Association specialist to zoom with you. It’s such a minefield post Brexit and despite all the internet research I am doing, I am sure so many potential Med cruisers would be gripped to this episode! Thank you 🙏❤️⛵️
@@judyaslett6209 thanks Judy 🤣 I didn’t vote for it either but we just have to make delicious lemonade from the lemons that life deals us!! I think this video could be a really well viewed one as it’s such a major part of Med sailing planning for Brits post Brexit. I also liked when you had 3 couples join you on zoom to talk about navigating covid, so this would be helpful too to hear about how other cruisers tackle the Shuffle! Thank you so much 🙏⛵️
Ps. I am planning to buy my boat in the late spring next year and head into the eastern Med to start exploring. I have read an article from a couple who sailed non-stop from the Uk to Ibiza in order not to start the clock sooner than they had to. I am more interested in the Eastern Med and clearly it’s much better for Brits as there are some glorious Non Schengen counties, which you look like you are enjoying visiting!!

Hope you got in touch with the superyacht, I guess it's unlikely you'll get any recompense but it would be good to let them know (who knows who was actually conning it) if only to encourage them to go more slowly in future. I suppose with most people mooring stern too they can usually get away with it benefits of having a rubrail! Chora looked beautiful though!
@@judyaslett6209 yeah that's what I thought, I'd have been pretty miffed with it though, you both seem to have been much more philosphical about it. Perhaps he'll actually be more careful next time. Good job it wasn't a flimsy GRP boat!
The hull rail is there for a reason What is your verdict on your dinghy now that you have had it a while. How is the tube material standing up to the UV??
In the US waterways. Which I'm sure elsewhere too, your responsible for your wake and any damage it causes. Granted you would need to prove a specific boats wake did the damage... My house is right off a river and A few years ago a tug boat and a cargo ship came through way to fast. It was caught on video and a neighbor that happened to be on his boat went out and videoed the registration and company info and relayed it to the coast guard. The tug and ships wake caused damage to a few boats tied up on a yacht clubs dock. However, the most damage was from the ships draw combined with the massive waves. Residential docks were ripped from the shoreline. Twisting steel ibeams on one dock. I believe The company was fined by the coast guard and the epa because a breeding ground was damaged. The company paid to fix the damage to any property. You see some crazy things living on the water.

Hello, Do either of you have any experience or opinions of flexible solar panels which can be fitted to your sails ? ( I think slab reefing only) Very cold hear in North Northumberland and not alot of sun as we approach the winter solstice, so any views on hydro generators? Cheers and safe sailing.
I haven’t seen or read anything on panels that can be attached to the sails, I’m sure it will come though if it hasn’t already. There is a system out there that has stackable solid panels that attach the the mast track at anchor and can be hoisted up and angled. I intend to look into hydro when we get to sailing long ocean passages but I know the best ones are the ones that attach to the stern rather than tow. Fitting things to the stern of a double ender isn’t the easiest thing.

At least the nano-transistors and the self proliferating graphene circuitry of the CullVax are powered by your own bodies' electricity. Bet you wish you'd stuck to weekends in the Cotswolds by now
@@svfairisle Yes...I fear it's a COVID refusenik (commenting off-topic for some weird reason), or just plain poor comedy; either way, weird. Really interested to see your take - as two-handers - on long-lining. We've done a bit of it short-handed, and it's something of a juggle but certainly doable and often a mandatory skill in these parts. As per the other comments, you "appeared" incredibly calm; not sure I'd be able to maintain an even strain in similar circumstances. And, as you say, very little you can do/plan; if the Ferries don't cause the problem, it's hard to anticipate it coming from another quarter. I'm sure you'll do a sterling repair. Also very interested in your tweaks to the electrical/power system; I would have thought your solar would be enough to maintain you without additional charging, but all depends on the draw of course. Onwards and upwards.
@@returner323617 Ha! Yes you’re right, wasn’t sure how he got from nano-transistors to the Cotswolds! And you’re right I might not have been calm if I had seen the idiot speeding through the port, it’s one thing if a ferry going about it’s business causes a problem but this was a super yacht that came in at a ridiculous speed according to the woman on the stall next to the dock who saw it. I did go and have a word with the captain of the yacht that had just come in but I wasn’t 100% certain it was that boat and of course he said he wasn’t going fast. What can you do?
@@svfairisle Thanks, we are in Croatia and planning to go to the Ionian Islands for late Sept, Oct. This year it is a little bit more crowded, but still manageable.
Gutted to see you are going with precision, i have heard some very average things about them and only know they give their sails to UA-camrs in a way of making themselves look better than they are. You have got great stuff like your Ultramarine equipment. I would have thought you more an Elvstrom or quantum sort of people and maybe a North 3Di.
We had long chats with Precision on zoom, we also talked to other sail lofts as well. Precision were actually the ones who really impressed us with their knowledge and honesty. Apart from North sails no one is making their own sail cloth now, Precision have all the best brands and gave good advice, they even steered me away from Hydranet which surprised me as that would have cost me money. They have the process of getting the right measurements and delivering to people all over the world, yes we get deals as You Tubers but we are sailing channels are also out there sailing the world so we need people who can get stuff to us without hassle. I think Precision will be the best for that.
@@svfairisle I am intrigued by that. We have Hydranet on our yacht, admittedly it isn’t a “Blue water boat” and the yacht hasn’t gone all the way around the world, we have to get from Turkey to France for that, our has been brilliant and still has good shape, hasn’t been affected by the weather. It is very heavy and if you like new sails every few years it will let you down as I suspect the boat could go around the world again and maybe need new IUV strips. We may be missing something
No, Hydranet is definitely the best there is for a cruising yacht, The only reason they were saying maybe not go that way is that it's twice the price of the next best dacron based cloth. It is twice a good however but their argument was that a sail is at it's best the day you first put it on the boat, so when you sails are shot and you are replacing them Hydranet is half way through its life, but at that point the brand new sails are better than the (10-15) year old Hydranet & you've spent the same amount over all. Sort of makes sense I suppose.
@@svfairisle sort of does. Ours came with the boat. One thing I would say about ours is that it is bloody heavy so doesn’t flake very well,. We had a bunch of dust from it being in Abu Dhabi and flew it back to UK, on the way out the main weighed 105KG on the way back 90KG
$50 euros for 10 minutes of unnecessary customs handholding? I smell a shady local kickback scheme. Well, that section of rub rail did it’s job with distinction. RIP. Cheers.

@@returner323617 probably a bot.
Sorry to see that you had a damage..
It’s easily fixed, I hope you and Zeynap are having a good season.
@@svfairisle Thanks, we are in Croatia and planning to go to the Ionian Islands for late Sept, Oct. This year it is a little bit more crowded, but still manageable.
@@salimerdem7544 Lovely. Well we will look out for you, we are sailing through the Ionian in September on our way to Montenegro for the winter
RIP. Cheers.
Yes we agree. A bit of a local scam
I saw that now you are at Lakki...
Yes just arrived
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
1:00 I like how Judy always calls these a "film" rather than 'video' or the more appalling 'vlog'. And curious, Steve, are you ex-Army or ex-RN? You have that look about you... and 13:11 those sunglasses look ideal for sailing, what brand are they?!
Hi guys , I really like your videos , but I would suggest you to speak a little bit slowly for better understanding for people like me , no English native … 👍😎😍⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️
seems you are just taking the damage and repair cost on the chin - what reason not to try to pursue the individual who caused it?
The captain denied he was going too fast and we had no physical (video) evidence. Just not something we could pursue I’m afraid.
😲🙁😢
