Got two of these. I haven’t use it mainly yet. Usually just testing. But i am so impressed with the performance. I paired with an nf a12x25 fan and it remained cool. Cinebench tests scored 32k at multicore without breaking a sweat. Hoping to pair this with a decent recent rtx gpu for 1440p 166hz gaming
Let’s go!!! I’m looking forward to recording our comparison video about it. 4070Ti Super feels like a reasonable “value” for high end 1440p gaming these days- that’s what we’ll test with.
@@gigabraintech using it now as my daily driver PC. it really breezes though heavy desktop workloads! this MODT rig is underrated and ultra cheap compared to its desktop counterparts.
I've had mine for almost a month now. The one imperfect thing about this SE model is that it doesn't come with a m.2 E-key mounting bracket. I sent tons of emails to miniforum and finally got the bracket spec instead of the bracket (they refused to). Yet you can't find the bracket in the market.
Thanks for pointing this out. Since unboxing it I realized I may have misspoke about the standard and also haven’t been able to find a card that would appear to work. Like you’re saying the mounting appears impossible. Bummer. Hopefully they don’t do this with future products- this one feels a bit like a one off because of the relatively unknown CPU (almost like they got a bunch of lower yield CPUs from AMD and built this product to sell them).
@@gigabraintech My recommend on mounting a wifi card is, buy a E-key wifi card with proper antena size (mounting hole Φ7mm), use some soft material between wifi card and CPU fan mount. That should prevent it from falling off lol. They're selling the SE in Japan for a short period of time then stopped, never sold in China. Now they're using the MB in the barebone system lol, again WITHOUT the bracket! Again with that price and similar performance to 7945HX, I would still pick BD790i SE lol.
Great detailing, i just ordered this myself. Ironically i have an i9-12900kf already so excited to see your results with the i7. I just got sick of the power draw 😅
It's a good question. The first time I examined it closely, it appears slightly physically different from a traditional slot, but I'll take a closer look.
@@gigabraintech Hi, I have ordered one of these to try "ADT-Link M.2 Key A.E. WiFi NGFF Interface to PCI-E 4.0 x1", will then connect SATA power to it then a Pcie x1 to 6 way SATA card, we shall see near future ... Hope it works as have lots of 2.5" ssd's but could always USB to SATA if it fails. Also FYI for PC case I have one with 2xUSB A and 1xUSB C on separate cables, this works - "19PIN to USB C Adapter Card, USB3.2 GEN1 19PIN to Internal USB3.2 GEN1 19PIN Male + 20PIN Type-E (A key), Extend 5Gbps Front Panel Type C + 2* Type A" Just FYI, it works!
Got mine some weeks ago, it is a thing of beauty and a bang for the buck.. BUT they sent me the wrong screws for the fan bracket and never sent me replacements even if they said they were doing it, the bios is a bit iffy (immediately set a supervisor password or you will find out) and the fans speed control is very basic and only PWM, no DC control
It's really unfortunate to hear they didn't help out with the fan bracket. Yours didn't come with the extremely short screws? I was shocked how short they were to affix the fan bracket onto the fin array.
@@gigabraintech just today I received from them the correct screws but I already found other ones in the meanwhile.. yes the one they sent were so short they couldn't even grab
FYI! The 790i SE has an AMD 7940HX CPU, while the 790i has a 7945HX CPU. Otherwise, there are no differences in terms of equipment. And SE stand for Second Edition, not Special Edition.
We got our hands on this for $329 at the time, which we thought was a pretty great deal. There are two versions, and a newly released larger form (that is also more expensive) called the BD795M. Currently the BD795i SE is listed for $463 on Minisforum's store. We got the BD 790i SE specifically (currently not listed anymore) which came with a slightly lower clocked CPU (7940HX instead of 7945 HX) and PCIe 4.0 PCIe slots instead of PCIe 5.0--and saved a bit of cash boing going with that (and during a holiday sale).

You are definitely on to something here. The chip is essentially a 7950X... on Eco Mode... with a board... AND a heatsink... included.
Great unboxing vid very informative
🫡 here for you. Also check out our upcoming comparison video.

can you comment with the bracket spec? Maybe I can make a 3d printed replacement

Hi the SATA below works well, they just released one version with 2 SATA ports! Will use ethernet but have lots of USB Wi-Fi dongles if ever needed.
