I want to thank you very much for sharing all those wonderful chain mail videos with us. It's like having you right by my side and directing me each step of the way. I am almost 80 years old and a newbie and if I can do it, everyone can. Bless you.

What a wonderful comment. Thank you Connie. I am deeply touched by your words. I'm just sat here at my bench making jewellery, its very humbling t know that I am inspiring people all over the world and of all ages. Correction... "We" are inspiring people. I hope I am still making jewellery when I'm 80. God bless, and keep having fun !!. Dave -X-

SUBSCRIBED…..such a very clear and detailed step by step tutorial.I have cast iron cookware from a company and they sell a chain mail scrubber so I bought it.Got to thinking about chain mail type thing to wear on my head then thought about a bracelet to wear, came to UA-cam and saw the pic of cross you made so I watched the whole
video.I wear a gold cross and like the one you made. Some questions…..
      1) Where would I by the silver and copper chain mail from ¿
      2) What type hand tools would I need ¿
      3) Is every link on the items you make soldered after you bend link into position ¿
      4) Main question is what’s name of the soldering machine
Felt I owed you the respect of watching the complete video very good craftsman!!!
I am here in ATLANTA GA I make items from MILITARY PARACORD,and might look to doing this also.
Have PTSD / DEPRESSION so crafting helps seems can’t go out anymore to have dinner or something like that without some idiots causing problems.

Your tutorials are the best. The numbers and layout help me so much. I don't count so well in my old age. :P But I have more time to enjoy myself. Your counts and layouts make it easy to know that I have the required sizes, colors and amounts so when I begin to work I have the perfect layout. And if I make a mistake I see it right away. Were you an instructor earlier in your life? I think of you very warmly.

I am so glad that you took the time and effort on how to make this cross.
I had to teach myself the mathematics behind getting the ratio right. if it's too big it will be floppy and too little the rings won't fit.
you are a very good teacher.

Thanks Jean... and well said. I started making jewellery as I was disappointed at the poor quality of the mass produced junk on the high street. I agree it's important to keep the old skills alive. (erm.....even if I do have a $3,000 welder ) Some people are very protective of their skills and knowledge. I'm not ! I just wanted to stop by and say how much really do appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. I have been studying a lot of the old craft I saw the elders doing as i was a little girl. Byzantine was usually made or handed down in my family. But sadly my family has disbanded and old knowledge and history was lost. I have been making a strong effort with my own children to teach all that I can. And I want to make them and my husband kings chains. I especially think it would be great to make one for my da. As he lost his many years ago .. thank you for all you do.

Hi, I've just found your channel today and I'm really enjoying it. This is an excellent tutorial, with clear and easy to follow instructions. Boy, I sure could've used this a little over a year ago. I made 25 of these as keychain fobs. But I kind of figured out how to make it on my own (without proper instructions, except for the basic Persian 6 in 1 chain) by studying a picture of a completed cross and lots of experimentation. I made things more difficult than it needed to be by working from the center outward. Your instructions look much easier. Thanks for the great tutorial.

Thanks, there's always more than one way to do something. My aim here was to make the project simple to follow in steps. Do check out my Full Persian video and byzantine video too (if you haven't already). Thanks for watching. Dave

Mr. Wilson, have yet to make my first piece of chain mail, couldn't decide where to start! After finding your channel have watched several of your videos, you are extremely talented in your jewelry craft, instruction, and photography skills! Have decided to make this piece using your video as my first attempt with chain mail! Please continue creating these for others like me, new, and not sure of the terminology, or aspect ratio, you give ALL the info needed to create such a beautiful piece, with excellent instruction and illustration!!!!

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk

This is perhaps a little tricky for a first attempt. I'd always recommend the byzantine to start, as its quite easy. Then try the full Persian, before having a go at the cross. That said, each video is fully explained, but the experience of the other two will definitely help. Good luck. Dave

925 Sterling silver, and the wire is pure copper. I normally just work in silver, or 9ct, but used copper as above for contrast. Dave

@@CelticDreamsCoUk Thanks, Dave! I downloaded your Persian bracelet video, so maybe I'll start with that. I went on line to buy some rings but found the sizes confusing. I wrote down what was needed but couldn't find the exact ones. I'll try another site. I've watched several videos on chain maille and can follow the patterns fairly easily. It's the closing of the rings I'll have to practice. They are all beautiful and I'm so eager to try! You are an excellent instructor.
