    I have no business adopting a dobermann , nor is my lifestyle anywhere able to accommodate one. But every time I see Prince and his majestic play bows it does something to a person. Hes such a good boy. A model one.

    Joel going through the gate and turning back to Boomy and saying, "no dude," as he shuts the gate in the dogs face is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Joel is that one guy in every friend group that's always 100% serious, but doesn't realize how hilarious he is to everyone else by simply being himself.
    Between that dog flipping itself and barking like a manic and Joel commenting on the fence and the purely positive people, this video is gold.

    Prince play bow-ing, the running just at boomy’s max leash distance is such older sibling level taunting- I love it.

    Long term stress is damaging but short term intentional stress is how you get stronger. So while it is stressful getting over social anxieties, it's far more damaging to live with that stress your whole life.

    • @marijkee719
      @marijkee719 2 роки тому +1

      depends on what kind of stress. Stress from insecurity and fear doenst help with learning. There are plenty of studies done, that with stress they dont learn shit.

    • @colt6784
      @colt6784 2 роки тому +11

      @@marijkee719 he said intentional though. That's the basis of exposure therapy. For people voluntarily facing fears and insecurities in small increments is therapeutic. Too much and forced can be traumatic.

    Unbelievable how quick boomy goes from having a confident bark with tail in the air to tucked tail and a yelp type bark and then straight back.

      I thought it was hilarious how he changed his bark and demeanor when actually faced with Prince's playing. Probably did more good than all the rest to realize he was not all that after all.

    I was snickering - ok, I was laughing hysterically - at Boomi flipping himself and nonchalantly carrying on but then I really was laughing how Joel talked about it & using his hand describing how Boomi flipped himself. Look forward to watching Boomi’s improvement.

    It's so interesting how he acts all tough when he's chasing Prince but the moment Prince starts chasing him he gets scared. Then Pince runs away again and suddenly he instantly gets his confidence back. I wouldn't say that Prince didn't phase him, he was obviously scared, but he didn't learn from it. He kept coming back for more.

    Joel is so genuine, he says what we only dare to think 😂. That dog is hysterical in a sad sort of way, hope he gets there. If that fence did break that Joel was leaning on, it would have been the icing on the cake 😂

    I love how you recognize that the dog's brain isn't working like normal. My dog has similar issues of being overwhelmed by many situations (especially dogs) and he loses his ability to think. I have reached out to vets and trainers with experience dealing with problem dogs but nobody listens to me when I try to explain that my dog is not "normal". I mean, I have worked with many kinds of dogs in the past 15 years, and helped others fix problem behavior, and not one dog has ever been close to behaving like mine. My family thinks that he'll never be "fully tame". I can manage him, but his life will never be as easy as other dogs; especially when his strong reactions have sent dominant dogs to attack him in the past and pinning only worked against fixing his social issues.
    Eager to see what progress you make with Boomie. Currently I'm giving my dog a mild sedative to help keep his emotions from peaking too hard, but I'm always looking for ways to make his quality of life better.

    • @bslizardette4669

      @Fruzsina Tóth It's a great sign that you have found a crack where you can get her focus, shows hope for desensitization therapy. I actually finally have gotten a proper medication for my dog, so I'm going through that journey with him as well, trying to find a way through all the triggers he's developed in the past. Good luck with your dogs; I know how the wild ones sometimes set off even the more stable dogs - and both your dogs are of strong willed breeds, too! Hopefully there's progress coming up soon in you guys' future.

    • @bslizardette4669
      @bslizardette4669 Рік тому +2

      @Fruzsina Tóth I first started giving him some melatonin since my vet refused to listen to me about how I suspected that my dog might have an anxiety disorder. That shaved off the very peak of his blind rage and made him easier to get through when he entered the state of being overwhelmed.
      For us to get a proper medication, though, my dog had to reach the rock bottom. He woke up one morning with a startle and was deathly afraid of everything - including me. He lounged at me three times, bit me, and no matter how long I waited, he couldn't get over his blind rage defense mode. I called a private animal hospital's help number because I couldn't even take my dog for a walk and needed advice. They booked me a time with their associated trainer who specializes in fear aggression and told me to write her an email explaining my dog's background and current problem. The trainer sent us straight to a similarly specialized vet (without the consultation) and it cost me 500 euros to convince them that his behavior changes didn't have a physiological cause; they wanted to test all other possibilities first.
      In the end they agreed that there was nothing to explain his complete lack of emotional control and he was given a prescription of fluoxetine. He still has his good days and bad days, but hasn't gone into the blind rage once these past 3 months. However I don't thinking he'll ever stop taking the pills. I hope your girl isn't quite as extreme a case, most dogs fortunately hold much better chances of recovery. :)

    • @bslizardette4669
      @bslizardette4669 Рік тому

      @Fruzsina Tóth Thank you for the compassion. :) Actually, since he got a proper medication, he's been almost like just a normal, anxious dog. As long as no dog runs up to us, or nobody talks to us, you'll see nothing strange in his behavior.
      In fact, since we moved almost a month ago and he's slowly getting comfortable with his new surroundings, I've just this week started to take him out to muzzle-free walks every now and then. We're making steady progress now, but it sure was rough six years to get here.

    I’ve never seen another dog like mine...til now. He will helicopter himself like this. And go after bigger dogs...while completely shaking. His stress and anxiety levels are off the chart. I don’t have access to him being around other dogs like this to help desensitize. Luckily we have a yard where we can run around.

      My dog puts dogs in place. Like if a smaller dog keeps barking and growling, he will literally pin the other dog (Not aggressively) until the other dog chills out.

    As the owner of a reactive dog, my heart goes to this little one. You are right to point out that simulation means he loses control and doesn't know what to do. He is not happy but is hard to reach. I really hope you can take his sky-high stress away because he would so much happier. But I know from experience how hard that is. Good luck.

    Very interesting. I see where the behavior was mental. Yrs ago had a Jack Russell with a seizure disorder. As he aged we couldn't keep seizures controlled. He became very aggressive toward other dogs other than our boxer. I could see a "flip" in his eyes and he would go ballistic. I swear the seizures caused brain changes.

I have 3 terriers now, 2 of them with reactive issues one very similar to this guy, I've been working with them throughout lockdown. They are able to meet other calm dogs, but any Fast movement will set one or both off. It's a long process made more difficult with 2 troubled dogs but we making slow progress. Wish I had a Prince to tell them off. but only have a old calm westie(Who is perfect) and can't be bothered with all the hassle :)

    My dog is living proof of the dog getting a new normal after being around other dogs. I take my dog to my sisters and she has kids so he was always way too excited around them, after a couple good meetings with my friends dogs, he is a different dog now even when he goes to jump on one of the kids its more of a straight up thing and not a lunge that used to get him in trouble or make the kids scared of him. Now if I could just get the neighbors around me to see these video with small dogs non-stop barking to help them with theirs lol

    Ironically, It was the first dog my leash reactive shepherd rescue learned to be around. I was shocked on how well she did with his incessant activity- once she was off leash. I didn’t think she’d tolerate him at any level.

    I remember an interview with Chicago Bulls head coach Phil Jackson. He said..... He had to talk to the whole team and tell them.... Dennis Rodman is not like any other player. Therefore, I'm gonna have to treat him differently than all of you. I can NOT have any of you point to those differences and saying "It's not fair." It WILL be fair. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's not fair.
    Joel..... You are like Phil Jackson. Your ability to recognize this dog is different. That he's a good dog. Maybe even HOF like Dennis. But... You're gonna have to find a different way to make him the best he can be and you're gonna have to do it "on the fly". There wasn't a "Dennis manual." It's interesting to see you up against a real challenge. Good luck.

    Like you said, he has to be physically and mentally exhausted before he can calm down. It might’ve been Caesar Milan that said that a tired dog is a happy dog but I think that could apply in this case. I wonder if taking him on a walk around the block a couple of times and getting him desensitized to that route could provide enough mental and physical stimulation to help with meeting other dogs. I love your videos and can’t wait to see more on how you help out Bumi and the other dogs.

    I have a Chihuahua mix living next door just like this dog. It is taken three months to get this dog to trust me and my favorite Doberman. The problem, the humans.😂

    My foster dog is like that. I’m afraid to let her get too close because I don’t know if she’ll fight or not. It’s exhausting!

    My dog is exactly like Boomy. Small, barky, and very reactive with dogs. He is only desensitized to 2 dogs currently. And that was only after months of recurrent exposure. Unfortunately walking him is a pain as he freaks out any time he sees another dog. He’s the sweetest boy with humans though. I just found your videos and I’m hoping that I can learn from your work with Boomy.

    Joel you’re tactics restore my faith in the dog community. In all honesty, I’m sick and tired of the positive reinforcement community. Just witnessed a pretty bad fight at the dog park and one of the owners solutions was to shake a bag of treats in her dogs face while it attempted to rip out the throat of the other dog.

    I adopted a little dog. I think it harder specially if they are off leash coz you cant always reach them at the correct time for any corrections. {So on Leash}. And my corrections had to be toned downed a bit because of the light weight of the dog. He was my first tiny dog so I just had to learn and be patient. I think the biggest and most important thing i did for my little dog was treat him as any other dog. with a few variations due to his little body. . Really Love this Show Many thanks. .
