Britain's Got Talent 2011: Gay and Alan - Handbells

- This could be the basis of an album of great melodies and movie themes - Lawrence, Dr Zhivago, Born Free, Love Story, "Memory" from Cats, Les Miserables, etc. Handbells could become a standard instrument in light classical and theatre orchestras.

Those songs would be difficult for 10 people.... yet they've managed two of the most iconic Phantom of the Opera songs with just two people.... That is an impressive feat.
this is really hard to play with just two ringers, well done Gay and Alan.
I clicked on this expecting to see a performance of handbells but ended up hearing one of my favorite musicals! this is so cool!
2:56 love music of the night especially on hand bells they are so talented
Gay was crushing it with all of those shelleys! Go girl!
Shellys?
Amazing I love bells and Phantom
yaya
I loved it!!!!!! This song is one of my favorite and I'm gonna play it in a school activity, but it s very hard, because there like 4 bells each
this blew my mind!
Love your music
The fact that they are not wearing gloves trigger me so much
My understanding is that it's not uncommon for solo ringers not to wear gloves. I think it has something to do with the frenetic bell changes that have to be done.
AWESOME
Wow, Simon's a jerk. :P
I agree they played wonderfully
two people only? thats a rly impressive feat
THEY SO COOL!
The tunes are all from The Phantom of the Opera
thy are so good
Handbel is a group performance
I can't believe this! Simon wasn't coherent........such a wonderful pair and well done!!!!!!!! So, bell ringing is beyond his comprehension. He knows nothing about the effort and musicianship involved with bell ringing. Try it sometime, Simon.
@ElleryPham Yes, I remember that.
New girl brought me here
Why do I think of Tom and Jerry's Aunt Fig when I listen to the first part?
Nice name ☺️
This is so hard to play
What song were they playing in the first part
I appreciate their music, I am in a syf group and only with two people to play the phantom of opera? What????I can't even play that music with me and just my friend. Whoever who agrees, please like.
Simon sounds like Emperor Joseph II... "Too many notes!!" geez...
To quote Mozart himself, “Just as many as necessary,” (Mr. Cowell).
Coming from a person who plays handbells and played this song before.. they are so slow and they should be wearing gloves
They should be wearing gloves
yeah.
Ashwini Tittawella Not if you polish the bells after each time you play. That's how we did it in my college's concert choir, and it makes it much easier to grip the bells, esp if you're changing bells quickly like they are :)
Ashwini Tittawella Gloves were worn to protect leather bell handles. Nowadays, bells tend to have plastic handles, rendering that protection unnecessary. There's still the matter of polishing the bells to deal with any accidental fingerprints, but it makes changing bells (and turning pages) so much easier. My college bell choir doesn't wear gloves for these reasons. We are always asked about it whenever we perform.
Gloves are worn not to protect just the handles, especially if you're not careful you might touch the casting and because of the sweat a hand produces, it might rust
Aria Noir Which is why we do polish these bells. You end up being careful when you realize that you will be polishing it.
The song was hard they did a fine job, but it was a little sloppy, especially with the bells hitting something while being dampened. I'm assuming either the beads on Gay's shirt or Alan's lavalier. It was so distracting and tingy and just felt like something a bell player should be more aware of.
4:26 Too many bells? How many bells was he expecting?
WHATS THE SECOND SONG THE PLAY IT'S SO PRETTY
same song its a different part of the song
Music of the Night from Phantom of the Opera
i dont really like simon and the other judges' comments about making love , i mean it's just so gross to say it out in front of the whole cohort .😐😕
Hi I am Gay
