As someone with cerebral palsy on my left arm, I wish there more inputs that you could toggle instead of toggling all interactions at once. I used the scroll wheel for blessing totems but ended up getting hit by Killers when trying to cancel unhooks 'cause of my muscle memory.
I'm glad that I'm not the only one that gets migraines when the FOV changes. I like playing Chucky here and there, but I have to close my eyes every time I pick up a survivor.
I fully support adding togglable visual cues for survivors like in mobile. They should add a photosensitive toggle to remove the flashlight glare and dim the blinded screen and at least slow down the static effect animation for doctor.

Considering this is a horror game I don't see nearly enough people talking about schizophrenia. Someone I know and care about has it and Dredges voices, chucky's footsteps and the invocation basement ritual voices make the game unplayable to them. Plus the midwhich school siren gives them a migraine. I've been trying to reach out to the devs to let them know but it hasn't worked yet and man... The amount of hostility I get of people just asking "but why though?" in a public setting is crazy. Thank you for talking about this

I'm functionally blind. I thought colorblind settings would help. They are somehow worse than the default. With the default game, I can just not see auras or scratches on Eyrie and Corn maps, along with being almost completely blind on autohaven and 90% of every indoor map, but I can at least see scratchmarks. With the various colorblind settings, this changes to: I can see nothing, but my screen is dark; I can see nothing, but my screen is blue; and I can see nothing, but I don't think anything has actually changed. So I have to die on the hill of filters, which I am aware a lot of people abuse. I use them to *see the video game.* When the colorblind settings hit, I thought this was going to be the way forward. Instead it was like they gave themselves a collective high five and forgot about the whole thing.

I think the best way for Knockout would be to make the screen darker (like dredge nightfall), but not change the FOV. Also, I think the whistling that perk makes could be removed because I imagine it would trigger some player's tinnitus, but if they want an audio effect too then they should just mute the game or something.

Muting sounds of killers and survivors puts you alone at a disadvantage, so I don't think something like that would work. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what you could really do for Plague to make her vomit friendly for non-vomit likers, as vomit is her whole ability.
Dredge's complaint feels very weird, I've never had issues with it. But it could just be fixed by giving people the ability to lower killer side sounds ig?
Colorblind, I agree with completely. It's strange how they haven't gotten around to it!
Blinding, easy fix is to just darken the screen, or to turn it blurry, or like an echoy effect that just makes it so you can't see.
Im unsure how to change the motion sickness things outside of be removed or tweaked
Also, removing audio thing (like survivors screams) is somewhat of a bad idea all together. Unless they can replace the sound with like another kind of notification sound (option for it ofc) but a lot of the time you need sound cues, especially on killer
arachnophobia mode, actually yeah that'd be an easy fix if they can manage to like, make certain things clientsided, and any spiders on skins could be removed, or just use the default costume

    • @CheyTtv
      @CheyTtv  3 місяці тому

@@MellowedGrooves removing the survivor screams would be a togglable option that I assume would mostly be used by survivors. For plague I believe adding a togglable option to change the color of the vomit and a togglable option to remove the vomiting noises for the survivor if wanted. None of these would be forced. All under the accessibility options!
For dredge- this discussion was very common when he first came out and I had a few friends who had to step away from the game due to no options to adjust the screams and it bothered their PTSD when nothing else in the game did.
A lot of issues regarding motion sickness is FOV changes, so having a toggle to remove any fov changes should resolve those.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and be kind even if you may not experience any issues yourself with the things I've listed. ♥️

Difficult topic. As a (luckily) fairly normal guy with mostly physical limitations that do not cause problems while playing games whatsoever, i of course dont know what others go through.
And, to the devs defense, you usually programm your game for the widest audience and ensure that those people have the best experience. That, from a business standpoint, also makes the most sense. BUT that doesnt mean that its not also possible to ensure other people can enjoy the game aswell. Especially for plague, if its so easy to fix, why not?
Dredge: Audiowise its supposed to make you feel creeped out and give you that spooky vibe and while i never read about anyone having problems with this specific part about dredge, i wont deny that those people struggling with the screams exist. toggling audio could be a solution.
Doctor: That was honestly a new one to me. And given with the problems you mentioned as examples, im not rly sure how to fix those without robbing the character a bit of his identity. But thats honestly quite rough to understand if you do not feel like others do in those situations.
Colorblindness: Thats an obvious one to fix and THE one accessibility option where its (almost) sad that bhvr didnt look at those again.
Blinds: Valorant does a rly wonderful thing here in spectator view. freeze framing the last seen image and showing the bar with the duration on the screen
Motion Sickness: Ill be honest this one is so tough. Your solution would work quite well though (i hope).
Generals: kinda copy my "colorblindness" take.
Lovely to see a video about this topic. even if its about sth i have no problems with, i love to see more about this topic. More accessibility never hurts if a game doesnt need fundamental changes. In the end, the more people that can enjoy video games and the game we love, the better

Y'know these're things that I never even thought about when playing, nor have I heard many other creators talk about them, but I absolutely agree that more should be done to help people enjoy the game unhindered. Like Plague's vomitting I always just thought "ew gross i wanna cleanse myself asap" but it just didn't occur to me that other people could have a much more vicersal and physical reaction to those sorts of things. Same thing with Dredge's Nightfall triggering PTSD which makes so much sense. Fingers crossed that BHVR will look into adding a lot more accesibilty options in Year 8. I’m surprised you didn’t bring up spirit. Either playing as or against.
As someone with hearing issues I’m torn on making her getting too much visual assistance. I mostly use what’s available (scratch marks and grass moving). I don’t want her to lose her identity but understand people with worse hearing than I probably can’t even play her.
Probably basic footstep notis on screen could be fine. Not exact like chucky. Just enough that you don’t lose someone due to hearing issues.
Playing against her there definitely needs to be a visual indication on which side she is coming from.

Doctor has had many a changes in regards to sensitivity issues over the years. Most of it by removing parts of what he ones had to ''overwhelm'' survivors with. The toggle would be a good change. Though preferably I would love to see his theme being changed in a way where it wouldn't overwhelm people with such intense impulses. That way his theme can still be enjoyed that way. Though maybe I am asking for something that is unreasonable. Since that would require testing.

  • @chaoticsilver8442

Turning off vomit noise would mean removing information. Especially as killer.
A plague player who uses an accessibility option, shouldn't lose the match because they *used* said accessibility option, and didn't hear a survivor vomiting when they otherwise would have.
I'd go with an option to re-do the sound to something similar in volume, really as similar as possible, but sounding distinctly not like vomit. A pitched-down dog howling, or cat meowing, I guess?
Same goes for turning off screaming. Survivors might not be alerted to a hooked survivor they should probably save if there is no scream- And if they're blind for some reason, unable to see the aura, then they'd have no clue where the hooked survivor is...
(And if you're going against, say, Sadako with the fishing net add-on or something, then they're just screwed)
Maybe change the sound of screams, or at least mute generic screams- like ones caused by the doctor -but screams on hook should stay, because muting them kinda screws over your teammates, by removing, or at least, delaying, your knowledge that someone is on hook near you in the first place, and if you're blind, then they're just completely out of luck.
All I'm saying is, whatever accessibility options there are, shouldn't leave people worse off than were they to be turned off. The point of accessibility options is to allow people who need them to play the game at the same level as people who don't. Taking away information does the opposite of that.

I think it'd be healthy for the game to have a map and killer ban system. Like, every player gets to ban 1, maybe two killers and 3 maps. This might ruin queue times for certain killers, but i think it's better than queueing into a match only to have someone disconnect or try to kill themselves on hook anyways. I don't particularly find it fun. i'd rather play with other people that want to play, and letting people choose what they wanna play on and against doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. It might feel a bit unfair that a person might have to ban certain killers (doctor, plague) out of necessity, when there might be a patch when there's two killers that are commonly seen as overpowered/unfun, like skull merchant and the old forever freddy - but i think it's a good compromise. I'm posting this comment to see what other people think of this as a thing on top of the less controversial fixes, and keeping some killers (doctor) the same. I only know what's it's like to deal with disabilities because of those close to me - nothing i've got impacts my dbd experience

Plague: I feel like a really good solution for Plague vomit would be to implement something like the game "Fat Princess Fist Full of Cake"; there was a toggle option to have confetti instead of blood. I think if survivors could have confetti instead of vomit and maybe for the audio a long "Ughhhh" instead of the vomit noise would help a lot. (Also, the animation and noise for this could be super cute like the survivor is annoyed they are forced to throw confetti or something)
Dredge: I honestly don't understand why the screams are necessary at all, but I would love for someone to explain why they are needed to make Nightfall difficult to face. /gen
Doctor: I think the best way around the flashing lights would be to have a light blue almost veins in the ground instead of the flashing lights. That way the light isn't as harsh, flashing, and survivors can still see them.
Colorblindness: I had no idea until today that there's basically 3 options of colorblindness not including "none". I don't really have any other thoughts since I'm not colorblind, so I'm unsure the best way to go about this.
Motion Sickness: I know the game includes the height of killers already, but I think in order to show their heights better than switch FOV is to include a survivor cardboard cutout in a killer queue and having the killers stand next to the cutout to show that height. Also, instead of changing the FOV maybe they should include a toggle that changes your screen to have dash lines around the border to indicate that your FOV would have normally changed or something along those lines.
General Options: I know this would take a lot of work from the devs, but I think it would be amazing if they added a different volume slider for every sound in the game similar to Minecraft. For a visual option for gens, maybe change the lights at the top of the gens so the brighter the light is the more progress is on that gen.
Outro Clips: The Tombstone Meyer is one of my favorite clips.
Honestly though I think a lot of the accessibility options the community are asking for aren't too much in the grand scheme of things and I really hope that the devs look into this. Thank you so much for making this video Chey and I hope it gets to the right people!
