I’ve recently started ceramics too! And pulling is super hard! I avoided it for a while and just made a TON of plates, but I think I’ve just recently got the hang of it??
Basically, what changed it all for me was this: if I put my outside hand above the inside one, the pot gets taller but goes either straight up or even a little inwards, and then if my outside hand is below the inside one, it goes outward 🤯 so instead of lining up your fingers, put the outside ones slightly higher up 🙌 hopefully that helps!!!

I work on ceramics but don't have access to a studio anymore. Your issue about pulling and making it a not skinny -- What helps me actually is to pull at an angle towards the inside. If I attempt to pull straight up, then my mouth gets bigger for some reason (maybe physics?) exactly like you've mentioned. I would try to pull angled more towards the inside than you think! Another piece of advice is that you can make a circle/O with your hands and compact the top of the mouth to be more skinny.
What also helps is when pulling, try to stabilize your body. I was taught when pulling to move upward using my hips (think your hip as a joint) instead of your back/arms.
Don't be afraid to restart the piece and let the clay dry and start again. Have fun!

ohhhh the kitties are so cute!!!!! i absolutely feel your pain on the ikea shelf..... when i got myself a lil shelf for my office the bottom shelf is backwards!! which would not be a problem if not for the cork LOL. i just used moulding paste to fill the holes and painted it!

I don't know if someone else has already said this in the comments, but the Alex Drawers are done correctly! They are supposed to screw into the top of a few of the desk tops from IKEA, so if you aren't screwing them in, they're just there. It doesn't look pretty, but I just wanted to say that so you don't feel bad about yourself, thinking you did it wrong. 😁😁

Youre doing good! You need to be more confident with your pulls making them go all the way up! Dont even think of squeezing (unless you’re getting into your starting position). Are you using a mirror? i like to look in the mirror and focus on the sponge as if it was a pencil drawing a straight line all the way up until you don’t have any clay left to touch. Good luck:)
