Mike, I own about 60 blade baits from various brands, watched dozens of hours on blade bait fishing videos, know the tricks and fish the tricks but this might be the PLATINUM STANDARD for blade bait fishing. SOLID job, sir and thanks for educating the faithful.
Here in Aus, we remove both trebles and run just a set of assist hooks on the back end. Works brilliantly bouncing off the bottom for the bottom feeders.
Thanks for the great video. I feel like I should have had to pay for the lecture. I’ve been fishing my whole life but recently am really taking the time to learn, take notes and practice techniques. I’m excited to have found your channel! Tight lines!
Great bait, great video! Back before they had the two pronged hook(or I just didn’t know about them) I used to nip off the front facing hook off the trebles.
Great Blade Bait tips!!! You know ! I have lots in my box but just don’t try them enough! I’m going to try them ! I’m more a Walleye guy but I’m going to try them on them !👍🎣
I just had the best smallmouth day I have ever had casting blade baits and retrieving on the steady retrieve. Rip rap below a dam on the Mississippi, never caught so many fish. Wow, I am a blade bait believer!
Great tips thanks ! First time using blades I was trolling for trout not catching nothing no bites so my friend said try these. Put one on started jigging and wham caught a bass a few minutes later bam a bluegill caught more fish and it just made my day ! Have now bought $60 worth of blade lures LMAO. Who's hooking who LOL
Came for the tips, stayed for the "rrrdddiitt"'s . Thanks Mike! "Heddon Sonar" was the first thought I had when I read "blade bait". It may have been the original one. 1959. By contrast, Silver Buddy was 1983.
I make my own and use open single eye siwash fishing walleye. Just crimp right on the blade, don't lose as many blades. Hooks them right in the top lip.
I used to switch between trebles and frog hooks, but now I found out it’s better in my opinion to use one of each. Frog hood at the front, treble at the back. Some blade baits come standard like that too. Fyi frog hook at the front to help deter snagging. Treble at the back to help hookup ratio.
Hot in Florida today 97. Catching bass on a blade bait the last 2 weeks. I think the heavy pressured fish may not have seen many of these. Green and silver cicada.
Hi Mike, love your videos!!! They are so helpful, and full of info! I was wondering what brand and size, two prong hooks you use? Im looking at replacing my regular trebble hooks on my blade baits.
Mike have you tried the new technique from Japan called the Meta Bama. It’s a blade bait with minnow lure on the hooks. Thought I would see if anyone has used it yet
I always used the back hole for the yo-yo retrieve. Always made out better like that, think it was because the head was angled down. I haven’t fished one since the late 90’s. Going to have to dig through my old boxes and toss one this spring.
lol yup, looks like a slab of metal. First time I saw one I thought, "Nno way! No fish is stupid enough to bite on that thing!" It's now one of my absolute favorite lures. I got at least 30 of them now 🤣
I've got to add, now that I have completed the entire video. I've watched TONS of blade bait videos. And this one? Holy Wow!!! Every question I never got answered in all the others combined was in this one. Thanks a bunch!
The Sonic was NOT a blade bait. It was one of the first lipless crankbaits, the forefather of the RattleTrap. The Sonic was a 2- piece hollow plastic vibrating lipless.
Blades work good for multi species ice fishing too. It's my "go to" bait. On almost any day, I can out fish the others, if I use blade baits. They work good in summer too. The VIBRATIONS bring the fish in. THIS is the bait to use scent with. Without scent, it's just another piece of metal down there.
Mike I have noticed first hand with bladebaits that when the water gets real cold, the fish I’ve caught are only on the back hook, I was wondering how you felt forgoing the middle hook for a slightly larger back hook?
"In the shop" 😆 even south jersey is iced over. I caught my 1st fish through the ice in both Philly and Delco yesterday. My spot by a damn had 7in of ice. This crap is for the birds. It's time to fly south

you're very welcome Mike, thanks for watching!!!
One of the most under rated baits period, thanks IKE for doing this great video.

Thanks for the information regarding blade baits Mike. Great tips!
Great tips Mike! Blade Baits ARE THE BEST!!!
Great bait, great video! Back before they had the two pronged hook(or I just didn’t know about them) I used to nip off the front facing hook off the trebles.

Love ya Ike!!
A huge believer of 1/2oz blade baits for walleye. Many times it outperforms a jig and minnow.
Thanks Mike you said mostly the same as everyone else I've listened to with several fine tuned points. Merry Christmas
Excellent!
Definitely using a blade bait this time of year. Haven't caught a fish yet, but soon. Reel soon. ✌🏻🎣

Tie the hooks on with braid

I have never fished a blade bait. But I just bought one the other day and want to use it.
Heck Yea!! Watch this and tomorrow go hit that water!!!
Great info. Works great on Shasta Lake.
Thank you 😊the rrrrRRR is best
Thank you. Very informative.
I’m going to try metal blades for calico bass salt water weedless vmc hooks
They work great!

Never used. Gonna try it now here in Alabama
Just dug out some old gay blades and put new hooks on them. Will give them a try tomorrow, hope they catch some fish

I still have some Heddon Sonic blade baits from the 70's
The Sonic was NOT a blade bait. It was one of the first lipless crankbaits, the forefather of the RattleTrap. The Sonic was a 2- piece hollow plastic vibrating lipless.
The Heddon SONAR was the bladebait.
Thank you!

So would u fish the blade the same way for Smallmouth as you do Largemouth? I've only ever fished it for largemouth in stained water
Can you use them for trout through the ice ?
YES!
Mike I have noticed first hand with bladebaits that when the water gets real cold, the fish I’ve caught are only on the back hook, I was wondering how you felt forgoing the middle hook for a slightly larger back hook?
I used to shout at the mic until I discovered the Lavalier. Great content, though.
Evidently, it's not advisable to walk around barefoot in your fishing man cave?!? Lol.
Good stuff Mike.
oh good GOD don't ever walk barefoot in my shop!!!
@@mikeiaconellifishing - haha... yeppers.
Back hole for muddy conditions you say? That should be easy to remember... My back hole is my mud hole too.
Going tomorrow. Blade bait is on 1 of my rods.
Don’t go to Dale Hollow with out the silver Buddy .They are smallmouth 🍭
"In the shop" 😆 even south jersey is iced over. I caught my 1st fish through the ice in both Philly and Delco yesterday. My spot by a damn had 7in of ice. This crap is for the birds. It's time to fly south
What model of 2 prong hook do you use? They are hard to find.
👍👍👍🍻
I don't know about that I still get staged on rocks and sometimes they don't come back out of the rocks byby luer lol 😅
👏🎣👌🇳🇴🤠
We called those baits a sonar
✨✝️✨
Stop saying "now listen to me"...we are obviously listening.
Dude sounds like he’s giving a sermon
Never noticed how similar my girlfriend is to a blade bait…
Keep it Stupid 🤣🤣🤣
