I'm in my late 20s and I have acute gout for the rest of my life.
I discovered it in kind of the same way as Jim - the pain hit the joint of my big toe, which I initially thought was from falling down while getting off a train a few days previously. But no, it was from years of having too much meat and booze. The pain was so bad, I was bedridden for a week and couldn't have ANY pressure or movement on my foot. Took some medicine, and now I have to monitor my meat intake and I've cut out alcohol completely.
Gout is no joke, folks. Be careful and stay healthy!

There are a couple of things you can do to help with gout pain. Besides the obvious (taking medicine), ice packs help tremendously, as well as wrapping the foot in kinesio tape. You can also wear a bunion sleeve, which helps protect the affected area when wearing shoes.

I had the misfortune of getting gout three years in a row (2017-19). It's every bit as painful as Cornette describes, but the medicines Jim mentioned (Prednisone and the other one I can't remember the name of) work pretty effectively and can clear it up fast.
The third time I got the gout, I didn't have insurance and couldn't afford to see the doctor, so I toughed it out and hoped it would go away on its own. It didn't. Instead, it got progressively worse over the course of a month until I couldn't even walk anymore. I finally caved and decided I'd rather be in debt from hospital bills than to have money and be in excruciating pain. The doctor gave me prednisone and the pain was gone by the next day.
The moral of this story is, if you have gout, please seek treatment immediately.

I have had it, and yes it hurts like hell. I have had attacks that were so bad that I couldn't put any weight on my foot at all. I made two changes, and knock on wood, it hasn't happened since. One, I quit drinking sodas. I'll have a diet Coke or diet Pepsi once in a blue moon, but that's it. Two, I only eat shrimp once a month. Haven't had a flare up in almost two years. YMMV.

have a few people in the family who get gout. If you have an increase of processed foods (like lunch meat and burgers, and such) in your daily diet for a short while more than usual, it can make a Gout flare up. Lack of rest can impact Gout. Get some cherries, water, anti inflammatory, and stay off the foot while having the Gout and that should help If you don't like cherries, there is a concentrated cherry supplement that you can take. (I know no one asked for my comment, but hey it might help someone out there feel better)

That's pretty ridiculous since it has nothing to do with age, but rather diet for the most part. I first got it when I was 27.

I get gout a lot and I’ve learned to start chugging water and flush out my system, I use Motrin, joint manipulation and heating pads! It sucks! I wouldn’t wish this on anyone except Adam Schiff!

I watched TNA back in 2009, COMPLETELY forgot their push for Black Attractive Women on the program because they had Awesome Kong, & she was your residential She-Monster. Sonjour Bolt, Rhaka Khan, the other black woman. lol none of them made it far....

I have gout. Or maybe some other form of arthritis that poses as gout. It sucks. You go to bed always wondering if you're going to wake up the next day in pain and unable to walk normally.
Thankfully, I found a treatment from my local urgent care that works, a corticosteroid called methylprednisone

Best cure is to drink baking soda mixed with water, pain subsides within an hour and goes within a day. and also drink lots of water with electrolytes to flush it away and for prevention.

It sounds just like a body breaking down in old age. I try to fix this, but that interferes with fixing that. Unfortunately, we weren't made to last that long. But think of it this way, at least you're not a dog!

If jim reads this ok, but anyone else with gout problems. Avoid sucralose sweetened products. I do not know why, but the WORST 2 bouts were from that, and i got stones.
Holy shit, with Mio, i thought i found my answer. 300+ fl oz of water a day can be a chore, i would do about 80oz of gatorade/powerade on my breaks.
I thought to use it in place of any caffeine and soda. I went from about 300oz of water, 80oz sports drink, and 100oz(coffee, soda, energy drink, juices etc)
    To about
250oz water, 80oz sports drink, 100oz of Mio sweet water, 40oz of soda and juice.
everything got scaled back since i do not work outside much anymore.

Sadly you build up a tolerance to Naproxen, the more flare ups you have the slower it works. Plenty of water and high strength vitamin c helps flush it out.
