Earlier this month my wife got me this exact one for our anniversary. The watch is beautiful. I'm not a big fan of big watches, but this fits very well on my 7¼" wrist. Absolutely, love the sharp angles on the watch. Some of the angles remind me of the tip of a Samurai sword (Katana), perhaps they were intentional. Wish it was a little lighter, but once you put it on, you get used to it after some time. Beautiful watch, something that I plan to keep for a lifetime.
Love my Samurai Blue Lagoon. It’s quickly been promoted to my daily wearer. It wears a lot smaller than the sizes suggest. I’m dropping a lot of hints to get another one for Christmas. 😁
Just sized up my one. I think the things that rarely comes across is just how well the Samurai sits on the wrist for an imposing watch. Seiko really can punch above their weight for an holistic design that just 'works'.
I just received My Samurai, the very same like in your video, and i'm glad to report the the QC dept. was awake and sober. Chapter ring, bezel, second hand all falls in to the correct places. The lume is very impressive, better than i expected. I know Seiko is know for there lume, and mine stayed visible until the morning. So far so good.
Thanks for the great review, Jody! Always happy to help the channel. Love my Samurai, tempted to swap it for the gorgeous Save the Ocean version. Keep up the great work!
Had the same watch for about 6 or 7 months now and loving it. The waffle weave dial really catches your eye and although larger than id normally get, the dimensions of the watch really work on my 7.5inch wrist.
I have the PADI version and absolutely love it. The blue lume on it is phenomenal. Good luck with your project, hope you can bring it back to its glory.
This is my standard daily wear watch. The #51 with the black waffle dial. The Black Samurai! Isn’t there a Japanese Anime by that name? Supposed to be a bad assed dude. Fits. There’s nothing it isn’t right for and nothing it can’t handle. I got mine for under $300 which is still a fair sum for a retired bum like me. The funny thing about this specific watch is that while I have a number or other pieces they all want to rotate around my wrist and settle with the watch pointing at the ground. Slippery. This one, massive though it is, hugs my wrist and stays where it should. And even though I have an 8.5” wrist, the standard bracelet fits me PERFECTLY. It’s the most comfortable watch I’ve ever owned. Works for me. Thanks for the great vid here. Keep ‘em coming.
"Just One More NH35." I love the comparison with the SKX, it is really neat to see them side by side. I can't wait to see how the road-kill Samurai turns out (it would be cool to see a video documenting the restoration). Thank you for another excellent video. :)
They're a surprising watch to wear despite the apparent bulk & the only reason I sold mine on was the fact I couldn't find a good looking strap to use instead of the bracelet. I may dip back in & buy a 'PADI' at some point as I really like the look of the watch. Great look at the watch & good luck with the refurb👍
I absolutely love the Samurai's aesthetics, it's a distinctly Japanese design that actually looks good (which is more than I can say for most Seikos). But it's just too friggin huge, I wish they made a 39-41mm version of it, I'd put it on my shopping list.
I like the broken version best. Nice challenge for a repair project😀 If you get it repaired, it has some great history and story behind it. Black rubber strap is the way to go with this watch in my opinion.
I tried the save the ocean version on.. Looked huge ..I passed on it. The Sumo/Blumo is a much better fit for me..The 62MAS is the perfect size for me.. Looking forward to seeing that Samurai brought back to life..
I needed another watch. Again. And with my young collection sorely lacking a diver, well: off to the Seiko-man for an SKX, or so I thought. Until I saw the SRPC93 'Save The Ocean'! What a grandiose chunk of metal: 192 grams sized for my 7"3/4 wrist (one link removed), a big part of that weight being lumibrite. A blue gradient dial to die for. Very uniquely styled, a Samurai is not a hommage to anything out there, to put it mildly. A genuine strapmonster as well... I finally know what love is.
Not only am I wearing it, I haven't taken it off since purchase. And quite unexpectedly: the horological barbarians I have to call my friends really love this Big Blue Watch... The real reason they don't need a wristwatch is not that their iPhonies tell the time, but the fact they can ask me.
I love the Samurai, but I have giant wrists, so the size isn't an issue. I own the blue and grey SRPB49, and got it from a Israeli seller last fall before they were available in the US. It has the nicest bezel of anything in my collection. I keep looking at the Strapcode hexad bracelet, but haven't jumped yet.
At first, I saw this SRPB51 watch at Macy's and was very impressed by the style. It is a really gorgeous watch and I love the waffle design. I prefer the black waffle dial over the save the ocean and blue lagoon but they all look great. After ebates and ebay bonus reward points, I was able to get the SRPB51 for a total $248.38 on ebay. This watch looks way more expensive than that. Probably 3 or 4 times that. Great value! I was kind of worried about it being 44mm but it fits and looks great on my 7 inch wrist. In a weird way because of the masculine style, rugged design, sharp angles and thickness, the 44mm dial works very well. I love the style. The accuracy is solid. The hacking & winding is very nice as I didn't have those options on my 2 other Seiko watches (SKX007K2 & Seiko 5 Sports SNZG15). My chapter ring, bezel and markers are nicely lined up. Con? I know some people talk about not being sapphire crystal but I have quite a few watches with mineral crystal and they don't have scratch on them even after many years and many accidental smashes. Sure I would prefer sapphire crystal but I had very good experience with mineral crystal. As for the markers alignment... I am happy with mine but I noticed some things especially after hearing some alignment complaints. I don't believe the 5 hour marker is actually supposed to be dead center with the chapter ring. I zoomed in on the US Seiko stock photo on the website and compared it to my watch. There is a little tiny watch movement number "2" text right next to the 5 hour marker and the text would need to be covered so it is moved a little bit off dead center. It is by design rather than a mistake. I am being really picky here. My 11 hour marker isn't exactly dead center but it definitely isn't noticeable and I am looking real close for any slight defects. It definitely isn't a problem and definitely not worth returning at the $248.38 price I paid. If the larger 12 hour marker was crooked, it would have bother me but I am pretty much fine and happy with my alignments. Bracelet? The bracelet is a good quality bracelet, looks nice and has a rugged style that matches with the case. If I designed the bracelet, I would have used a 3 piece link design. This link is actually 1 piece and has a "simulated" 3 piece design. If they did 3 piece design per link, they could have shortened the lug distance and the watch could be design to lay flat on table when not worn. This is more of a con than not having sapphire crystal or 11 hour marker not being dead center. I give this watch a 4.5 stars out of 5. I grade according to the price that I paid and I paid less than 50% of the retail price so I am more forgivable. I paid $226.46 for my SKX007K2. I paid $248.38 for my SRPB51. I love my SKX and its band versatility but I think I got the better value with my Samurai for a little more than an extra $20.
This was my first affordable grail watch, when I got it, it kind of disappointed me. I ended up getting an aftermarket bracelet and a new bezel/bezel insert and now it is much more appealing for me. The dial is definitely the selling point (and of course the case as well), and that's one of the things I definitely would not change.
"minging" (I did laugh) well not a word to describe your great reviews. My only complaint about the channel is the cost ! It forces me to buy "just one more watch", indeed I need another watch box! Keep up the good work.
I can never understand why people would swap the stainless steel bracelet for something that makes the watch feel less substantial..,or is that the reason, because they don't like the weight and feel..? I like to feel the weight of my purchase on my wrist. Good review.
Silver bracelets get boring. Especially with a black dial, it's nice to be able to match a strap design with an outfit, or just have fun pairing the watch and strap. The right combination can take a previously ignored watch to a compliment magnet.
Great vid! I wanted to let you know that the 7002 dial that you plan on using will only work if you break the feet off and use dial dots to mount it. It will be misaligned because it is a 4 o'clock dial. Even if you were to use that 7002 dial on a modern Seiko diver with a 4 o'clock crown it will end up slightly turned to the left and the date will not lineup.
Yes a super diver..! I have the PADI edition with the wavy black dial...an eye catcher for sure..! It is a substantial watch and I got it instead of the Monster and glad I did...suits me better. Can't wait to see your reconstructed Samurai project..! Cheers..👍
the samurai is a bit too big for me so i opted for what i call the "samurai mini" or the seiko 5 snzd15 w/ its samurai like angular & "aerodynamic" black case and waffle dial. i guess it's the next best thing for me
New viewer of your channel because i just bought the exact same model today. What a watch to behold. I wanted something masculine yet not too flashy. This piece just ticks all the boxes though i did wish it has sapphire crystal rather than hardlex glass.
Starbuy recently finished a weekend sale which had this exact model going for AUD $350, delivered. Couldn't resist at the price, and eagerly awaiting for mine to come my way.
Lovely watch. Looks quality. Would prefer pepsi version. Seiko could put in a sapphire crystal for the price though. Thanks for sharing, Jody. Best regards from Adrian in Sheffield England 😀
Watching this while wearing my 1956 Bulova Royal Clipper(a 31mm watch), makes me feel like when your at a stop light in a Volkswagen Rabbit and a large truck with big tires pulls up next to you. Great video and review.
I got one of these to replace my skx that had a misaligned chapter ring and a dodgy bezel...sure enough this also had a misaligned chapter ring and the crown was wedged up against one side of the crown guard. It's a cool looking watch but ive lost all confidence in any seiko that doesnt have the word "Grand" in front.
I have the Seiko Samurai SRPB99K1 Prospex with a double domed sapphire crystal from DLW Watches, and it absolutely transforms the watch. No affiliation with the company by the way, just a very satisfied customer.

Jody, could you put a link to the sapphire crystal which you were going to put into the buggered flattened watch? I am looking to buy the Blue SRPD23 and was looking to swap out the hardlex for a (preferably FLAT) sapphire crystal. I have no idea what size I would need
I have this exact wacth i also have the orange version that I really got a good deal on ebay 270.00$ made in Japan is hard to find and Worth a good bit more than I paid for it! Great review on a really good watch!
I'm really tempted to pick on of these us and have the extra cash. I just feel my 6 unch wrist is too small. i do have a quiet square/flat wrist though
I have been waiting for a review of the watch. I do not own an SKX and wanting to buy one, but I cannot find retailer that has one to try on. I went to the Grand Seiko store in NYC to see and they had none and he pointed me to that watch stating SKX will be discontinued. I put it on and loved it. It felt solid, comfortable and great quality. I have been wanting to know if I should continue looking at SKX or pay a little more for SRPB. It is about 100 to 150 more?
Wow. That Roadkill. Good luck. Gonna be like triggers Broom when you're done! I quite like the Samurai (apart from the knurled crown) but its a bit big for my 6.75 inch wrist, and like you am "downsizing" to smaller watches around the 40mm or less mark these days.
Love this big lump best value Seiko too ,ps My late Dad is on your T shirt ,or at least the album cover up Abbey rd in his red and gold milk float.Twiggy used to come in the dairy every day for her pinta ,those were the days lol
Great Review Jodi! Can’t wait for the Road Kill refurb , I’m thinking an orange dial version then putting a Black LCBI bezel on it would look great. I do not own an Orange Dial Watch and love the Doxa but $$$$
I also had the watch in front of the lens and wrote a cool review on the blog. However, I like your video review extremely well! Also very much info. Follow you now! Love your videos!
I'm not sure but I read somewhere that the samurai nick name comes from the classic head gear of a samurai warrior and the watch case resemblance to it. 😁
Even some of us non-Scots are having a good laugh at Minging. 😂 Have always loved the look of the Samurai as it seems almost architectural with all those angles. Wish it was just a hair smaller though as my wrists are a bit too small to pull it off. Nice review as always Jody.
I've been gassing for a samurai for months. Tried on a PADI and it had the infamous misalignment issue. When will Seiko sort out their QC issues? Love the MINGING reference 🤣🏴
Nice One , I intended no personal slight , I enjoy your wee film's , very informative , loved the SKX mod , you nailed it with Rip Off Britain , that is what I was having a go at , honestly . Just paid a lot for a Blumo , likely to do the same with a Shogun . Enjoy your visit to Scotland , I live in the Border's , going to Islay come Feb .
You do great Vid, just luv 'em. Got this model and fits beautiful on my 8" wrist-still with bracelete , black leather looks like the business tho. Everything you say is right on the money. My only comment would be my 775 Turtle actually wears better, but the angular shape of the Samurai gives it heaps of presence. Ta Jodi.
My greatest fear I have when I die is that my wife sells my watches for the price I told her I bought them for.
My greatest fear when I die is my wife selling my watches.
My greatest fear when I die is that my wife finds my watches.
Don't lie to your wives! Do what i tell you, don't do what i do.
I buy my watches with my overtime money. Hey honey boss says I have to work late!
Jajajajajaja
I prefer smaller watches, however I consider this my “Japanese Panerai “👌
Earlier this month my wife got me this exact one for our anniversary. The watch is beautiful. I'm not a big fan of big watches, but this fits very well on my 7¼" wrist. Kazi Ahmed Barton’s Elite Silicon straps secures extremely comfortable, and the texture matches the crown/bezel motif 👌
Love my Samurai Blue Lagoon. It’s quickly been promoted to my daily wearer. It wears a lot smaller than the sizes suggest.

9:44 "as i samuraize my thoughts " :)
Hahahha! I should have, shouldn't I!
😂
Beat me to punch!
I heard that too hehe

Whiff of Whiskey nice one mate 😎

Got my samurai great white 2 weeks ago and it have been thru hell on my job. It runs 4 sec ahead so far. Amazing.

wow, tnx for this detail review. im thinking about getting a samurai
I have two Sammys, 1 Padi and 1 Orange. I got the orange recently from eBay, new $270 US. For my wrist size and tastes, these are the bomb.
Blue Lagoon is the best looking one, good luck finding one though as it was a limited edition and is sold out everywhere.
"minging" (I did laugh) well not a word to describe your great reviews. My only complaint about the channel is the cost ! It forces me to buy "just one more watch", indeed I need another watch box!
Keep up the good work.
That is my biggest problem with this hobby ... "Just One More Watch" to buy.
I adore my Samurai in orange with black hands! Great watch, and fantastic wrist presence. Awesome review.
The Samurai is one of my favorites! Look forward to seeing your mod.🍻
I can never understand why people would swap the stainless steel bracelet for something that makes the watch feel less substantial..,or is that the reason, because they don't like the weight and feel..? I like to feel the weight of my purchase on my wrist. Good review.

Thanks for the tip! I am going to use the original dial, even though it has lume missing at 11. Cheers!
I have 4 samurais.one being a king and one a padi edition, the other 2 are just your basic samurai.excellent piece never the less
Yes a super diver..! I have the PADI edition with the wavy black dial...an eye catcher for sure..! It is a substantial watch and I got it instead of the Monster and glad I did...suits me better. Can't wait to see your reconstructed Samurai project..! Cheers..👍
Wait till the minute hand sits over the hour hand. Buck Rodgers Space Ship 🚀
That watch is so manly looking!
the samurai is a bit too big for me so i opted for what i call the "samurai mini" or the seiko 5 snzd15 w/ its samurai like angular & "aerodynamic" black case and waffle dial. i guess it's the next best thing for me
New viewer of your channel because i just bought the exact same model today.
This is absolutely perfect. Better start saving. Lovely size for me. Looks sharp and functional. Just don't tell the wife.
But once again us in the U.K are being ripped off. Over 400 quid ? How can they justify the price hike? ?
Lovely watch. Looks quality. Would prefer pepsi version. Seiko could put in a sapphire crystal for the price though. Thanks for sharing, Jody. Best regards from Adrian in Sheffield England 😀
Watching this while wearing my 1956 Bulova Royal Clipper(a 31mm watch), makes me feel like when your at a stop light in a Volkswagen Rabbit and a large truck with big tires pulls up next to you.
Great video and review.
Fantastic content yet again Jodi! I am definitely looking forward to seeing the smashed Samurai restoration.
Brilliant stuff, I adore my PADI samurai, cracking watch
Just ordered one of these as my first seiko.
After one of your recent videos bring back up the casio royale I went and got my own. Didnt know they came in green and had to buy it. These are so nice especially given the dirt cheap prices.
As for that samurai i had been looking at one of them for months. Good to know aside from bulk they're as good as they should be
Any chance of a King update?
Beautiful! It's a shame the crown isn't at 4 o'clock position.
Jody, could you put a link to the sapphire crystal which you were going to put into the buggered flattened watch? I am looking to buy the Blue SRPD23 and was looking to swap out the hardlex for a (preferably FLAT) sapphire crystal. I have no idea what size I would need
Would this Samurai be too big for my 6.75inch wrist?
I have this exact wacth i also have the orange version that I really got a good deal on ebay 270.00$ made in Japan is hard to find and Worth a good bit more than I paid for it! Great review on a really good watch!
I have the orange samurai with the rubber strap and the bracelet. If you like heavy watches, it's great
Samurai. Yes the sword hands, but that angular case also reminds of the angular plates you see in samurai armour.
Hi Jody. No one on you tube has ever reviewed the seiko samurai green dail yet. Could you be the first to do it? Would like to get my hands on it
9:45 is where you "samuraized" your thoughts. Lol great review as always!
Wow. That Roadkill. Good luck. Gonna be like triggers Broom when you're done!
I quite like the Samurai (apart from the knurled crown) but its a bit big for my 6.75 inch wrist, and like you am "downsizing" to smaller watches around the 40mm or less mark these days.
I really really really do not like drilled lugs. But the Sam is growing on me.
Might be willing to overlook it, however, I may not. 😂
Have you finished the restoration yet?
I sold my samurai on a miltat hexad bracelet last month.....just watched your video and I’m now going to re-buy as I’m now missing it.
Hello. I just need you guys opinion. My wrist is about 7'. Do you guys think im suitable for this watch?
Great looking watch! But I prefer the gold toned model. :)
A seiko king samurai or Squale Military or Steinhart Military 39mm.....??????
Was waiting for this video since last Saturday 😂
Ha! Thanks for your patience mate ;)
Between this and Tissot PRX Quartz which one is better ?
Very nice looking watch. I have this one along with samurai save the ocean one SRPC93 blue radiant dial and love both of them.
It feels great to wear this watch. Lovely design
I think it looks perfect on your wrist. Big, but not too big.
Sieko is the best automatic watch I ever owned it’s reliable and sustainable Rolex just have luxury price
I've been gassing for a samurai for months. Tried on a PADI and it had the infamous misalignment issue. When will Seiko sort out their QC issues? Love the MINGING reference 🤣🏴
Bought for my son. He loves it!!
Nicely done Jody, I am curious to see your rebuilding vid of your damaged Samurai. 👍
What is the name of that black strap with red stitch? MKS? Couldn’t find it on their site
Can’t wait to see you restore the roadkill!
You should review the Boldr Voyager with the full Brass bezel and case. It’s a gorgeous looking watch.
Hello! I bought the "J" version of this watch but the basel works very very hard. Is it also up to you? have you ever tried the J version?
Adding this to my seiko skx on jubilee
Imagine if they made a bronze samurai and the patina would wear away to reveal bright metal on the sharp edges.
Enjoy the whisky!! Some good stuff there if you like the style. Cheers mate.
Im so ready to get the PADI Pepsi bezel version though I think a white dial Breitling Avenger ii GMT is next if I can manage to flip a Tag I own.
Love the nurled winder not seen one like that b4 😊
Jody, what do you think of the Parnis watches? They seem like a good deal.
I have a 40 and I find it rather small so this will be my next purchase after I beat the hell out of my current edc watch
Great video. Love the look of the samurai. Do you use the fat end spring bars in your seko divers?
What watch winder is that on the bookshelf at the beginning of the video?
Great review as always. Gorgeous watch 👍
Nice review. Sold my blue SRPB53 for the Padi version, love both bu3g really miss the blue waffle. Looking at getting a strapcode for it.
You do great Vid, just luv 'em. Got this model and fits beautiful on my 8" wrist-still with bracelete , black leather looks like the business tho.
Everything you say is right on the money. My only comment would be my 775 Turtle actually wears better, but the angular shape of the Samurai
gives it heaps of presence. Ta Jodi.
Thanks for the kind words mate! Cheers.
this is going to be my first ever automatic =)
Would you consider selling the old samurai dial off the beaten up watch to one of your Sydney subscribers?
where did you buy the sapphire crystal?
Basically you review I buy 😂. Just added this to my collection from Star Watches in Sydney 500 bucks, thank goodness for Afterpay.
Not just the Scotts us Ulster people also!
Very happy with my pepsi samurai, looking forward to your lazarus returning.
